Without a doubt this is one of Tacoma's best dining experiences. Chef Shawn's team is small but mighty. The staff that we encountered were all super kind and attentive. It's widely known that Chef Shawn has a radiant personality and treats everybody in his restaurant like a longtime friend. He walked around chatting with everybody personally, showed off dishes as he walked through the restaurant, and was even happy to let diners take a peek at his kitchen (how does he make all this magic happen on TWO CAMP STOVES?!) The menu isn't massive, but everything on the menu is executed with precision and grace. I had a hard time deciding what I wanted but I've had my eyes on the Lobster Bomb for years. My husband got the "Tiny Burrito" which is quite literally the size of a newborn. The Lobster Bomb was excellent. Generous chunks of succulent lobster and the hollandaise was perfect! Subtle on the lemon flavor as to not overpower, but still rich and creamy. I tried my husband's burrito and the chorizo gravy is stellar. You could easily share this with 1-2 other people in my opinion. It lasted my husband two leftover meals! The restaurant itself is small but it's cozy and feels like you're at home. I felt like they were long lost friends that I'd known for years. Definitely a one-of-a-kind experience! Lobster Bomb was deliciously creamy lobster over a nice crusty bread bowl, bacon and scrambled eggs which we enjoyed. The Alaskan Cristo introduced us to reindeer sausage and a balance between savory and sweet. Great food & unique experience. The owner is such a friendly guy and gives off the best vibes! The staff was also friendly and attentive. You need a reservation -- and you are seated at your time slot (unless they are running late) and given one hour to order and eat. No alcohol (the owner is a recovering alcoholic), and nothing but respect for his direction on this. They have juices and other drink options to choose from. The portions are really large -- so we shared three items. The Hash It Out is AMAZING! All the different flavors on the plate come together so well. This was the favorite of the table. The Mango Coconut French Toast was also really good. It was sweet, as you'd expect, but great flavor combo. The Strawberry Fry Bread fell short for us. There couldn't have been a better welcome to the Tacoma area. My friends and I were looking for a last minute brunch spot upon arrival, and Shawn was kind enough to let us eat despite not having a reservation. It's awesome to see a native owned place + the energy exhibits such a welcoming and homey nature I haven't experienced else where. We were part of a large group that reserved the entire dining space for the last seating of the day (Sunday - 12 noon). The inside has a lot of "charazma" as I call it ~ visually interesting/appealing, showing its grounded Indigenous identity. The owner/chef came out to warmly greet us, shaking hands & asking names of newcomers. We'd provided our orders in advance so the kitchen could be prepared, & it was amazing to watch the orders brought out so expeditiously by the pro staff - especially from such a small kitchen. Then it got real quiet as everyone dug in. I had the Potato-Crusted Smoked Chicken Pie & my tablemate had the Lobster Bomb. Both were beautiful to look at & even better to eat! I am gluten free and ordered the blueberry bread pudding and OMG at first bite I fell in love, I know an exaggeration but as someone that doesn't get to enjoy simple dishes due to my intolerance this dish tasted amazing, the crunch on the crust is done to perfection. I have heard some pretty good things about this place and yes it's pretty off the hook, I really enjoyed the whole experience here. The food is really good, I ordered the lobster bomb which I enjoyed very much. At our table we also had the frittata and the gumbo, whiteout the shellfish and they loved it., I am not a sweets person but we also ordered the French toast to share that was so good I would totally order it again. We arrived for our 10:00 reservation and the owner let us know that they were running a little behind due to some slow eaters in the 9:00 reservation slot. I don't think we ended up getting our food until around 10:45, we did appreciate that he was communicative and apologized for the delay. He gave us all an introduction to the restaurant before we ordered which was a nice little touch. We were a little bummed because we wanted to try the pear French toast bread pudding and hash but they recently switched to their fall menu so they didn't have either of those dishes. We got the pumpkin French toast bread pudding and the bomb instead. The plating is so fun and both dishes were pretty good! Brought my sister her for a brunch experience. Heard about this place from a co-worker, they said it was amazing, so we had to go check it out. I believe the entire restaurant seats 22, a reservation is required, and they are only open Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 1pm. We arrived a little early, and found this small little place tucked away in a neighborhood. We were welcomed went we arrived, and seated immediately. Their menu is seasonal, and there were 6 items to choose from. I ordered the Ladenburglaw Bomb, my sister ordered the Adam's Mushroom Fritatta, and we shared an order of Candied Pecan and Pumpkin French Toast 'Bread Pudding Style'. Everything was made to order, fresh and delicious. The owner and chef came out and introduced himself, which was very nice. The best food and service!! Our car was being worked on in the area, and since it was going to be a couple of hours, we decided to find a spot for lunch. We saw the great reviews for Tibbitts and decided to give it a try! It's reservations only, so we called and were offered an 11am or 12pm slot--even though it was already 10:50am. The hostess was super accommodating and said it was fine if we came a few minutes late. We grabbed a Lyft, and upon arriving we were greeted and asked for the name on the reservation. Turns out it was the owner himself who seated us (we didn't realize that at first, lol). The menu was straightforward, which I actually loved no overwhelming pages to scroll through. I ordered the Lobster Bomb, and my fiancé went for the Burrito. He asked if it was a decent size, and our waitress told us it was 8 lbs! Safe to say we had leftovers. While we were waiting, the owner, Shawn, stopped by our table to introduce himself. That personal touch really stood out he was super funny, down-to-earth, and checked in with everyone. When our food came out, we were shocked by the massive burrito (seriously, it could feed a family of four). Both dishes were delicious, and our waitress was attentive and kind throughout the meal. The decor was fun, too walls signed by guests and autographed photos to read while waiting. AND after we finished, Shawn invited us into the kitchen to see everything behind the scenes! It honestly felt like a little field trip. He even gave us a "VIP exit" on the way out, which made the whole experience that much more memorable. I was lucky to get a reservation on the same day. Both my friend and I got the lobster bomb and we both thought it was amazing. The sauce is rich and decadent and there are chunks of lobsters, eggs and potatoes inside a bread bowl, topped with crispy bacons. Every component goes together so well and it was super satisfying and comforting to eat. They have a few drink options not on the menu and I got a strawberry lemonade which was very refreshing. What a wonderful experience and dinner at Tibbitts Fern Hill! They only accept reservations, so call ahead to get your seat secured. Its intimate seating and eye-catching decor will have you looking at every corner of the restaurant for something new you didn't see the first time. The food was absolutely spectacular, really flavorful and well cooked. The razor clam chowder on this evening had chunks of caribou, unexpectedly delicious meat! The chowder and lumpia were starters to get us going, and if I wasn't already beginning to get full then I was in for it. The short rib wellington with veg on the side was the best meat pastry meal I've ever had. The pastry was buttery and flaky and the short rib meat inside was cooked well and moist. The sauce was the star of the show, I could have spooned that alone. Lots of flavors, but delicately put together for a balanced entree. And last but not least, the candied carrot crème brûlée. This unique dessert had me scraping the bowl for more, and I am typically not a carrot person, but this was top notch.
