I've had terrible experiences here with management. There was one occasion where the staff took our order.. and we were fine waiting 40+ minutes for the to go order only to find out they never cooked one of our orders. The manager refused to rectify this in any way. Insisted that not only we pay additional money for an order we placed at this point almost an hour prior but also then expected us to sit and wait like nothing had ever happened. This was some years ago but when we tried again recently another part of the meal was forgotten. My family will never be coming back. Traveled a bit out of Asheville to Canton to try this place recommended by our friend. No wait and seated in the bar section which was fine. Two of us tried the Bees Knees cocktails while the others tried some local beers of course. Also two of us tried one of the specials, NY strip steak and shrimp with a pesto sauce with sides of grits, collards, and fried okra. One tried the shrimp and grits and the other had salmon. Wow! Great food, great service, great atmosphere. What a treat. I had the Creeper burger, probably one of the best burgers I have ever had! Perfectly cooked loaded with flavor and the heat level was spot on like the name says, the heat creeps up on you as you eat it and left a satisfying burn in my mouth. I also had a side of Blue cheese Slaw. Delicious! Plenty of blue cheese and a really great over all flavor. My wife had the cheesesteak, also a delicious treat. Plenty of tender meat, lots of cheese and the bun was perfectly matched. A side of broccoli casserole was her choice, and it was a great choice as well. Flavorful and cheesy served hot in its own cast iron crock. Our server was fantastic! He was very attentive, never once did we have to ask for refills or condiments. I highly recommend making the stop in Canton/Clyde to visit this restaurant. I know the next time we are in the area we will be heading back! read more

Visiting from out of state and saw this restaurant on Yelp so decided to try it. There was a short wait then we were seated in the bar area..bad decision on our part not to be moved to the main dining room as it was very! noisy and loud! We ordered the deviled eggs which was good, pot roast which was a smaller portion and very little meat or vegetables. It was the size of a small salad bowl. Also ordered the haunted tips. No mashed potatoes as they had run out of them. Meat was tough but the gravy and mushrooms were pretty tasty. Baked potato was substituted. Also had the cole slaw as a side which the server forgot and was brought halfway through the meal. Service was slow. Maybe the food would have been better on another day. Disappointing read more

There was a sign posted on Saturday afternoon that the restaurant was closing at 4 pm. We arrived at 3:35 looking for a quick bite and we're rather rudely informed that they were closing at 4 pm. We did think that 25 minutes prior to closing was sufficient time but obviously not. There was another party that arrived at the same time so we were not alone in our expectations of some service 25 minutes prior to closing. Service (we got it to go) was friendly and quick - 15-20 min had our four to-go meals ready in a big paper bag and everything accurately packed including a few separated "on the side" requests. I got shrimp and grits and a side salad and both were delightful. My family got "chenders," club sandwich, and the salmon plate and everyone loved their meals. Highly recommend especially since it's one of the few places in town that serves dinner :) place was really cool and front porch is dog friendly so if I didn't have grumpy teenagers I think we'd have stayed and dined outside. read more

Went here a few weeks ago because my wife wanted to try it, and it's just down the road from where we live, so why not? I ordered their salmon with the homemade chips and pimiento mac&cheese here, and a local brew (because if you're going to eat out at a local place that has local brews, try it, right?) The salmon was...okay. It wasn't bad per se, just not really flavorful either. Similar story for the mac & cheese...okay. The homemade chips were slightly above average, and probably the best part of my meal, but also weren't super-spectacular. Pricing was a bit on the high side (especially for mediocre food), but service was friendly. Overall, I wouldn't necessarily avoid the place, but I wouldn't seek it out either. read more

Oooooh, so many things to love about this place!! On a recent "Girls Day" I said that I had been wanting to try this place. My stomach chose wisely!! First, it's beautiful outside and rustic chic inside (look at the ceilings). It was decorated for Halloween and was fantastic. We split the collard dip as an appetizer, highly recommend it especially because of the chips. Two of us went for the Farmers Daughter veggie plate. Mine: Pinto beans, pimento Mac 'n Cheese, grits, and fried cabbage, the other had a Caesar Pasta salad and fried okra. They didn't have cornbread for the pintos (please bring it back, it's weird not having cornbread with pintos, I expected my Nanny to serve some up from beyond the grave). The okra was great, definitely not mushy. Everything was freaking delicious. Other friend had the Bourbon Burger with "woodchips" (house chips), it was thick and perfectly done. We wanted the Ramp Jam burger but they were out but it gives us something to look forward to. Our wonderful waiter, Ezra, recommended the strawberry shortcake so of course we had to leave room to share it. YUM!! Go for it. I absolutely love the Southern Porch! What an awesome establishment in downtown Canton. I love everything about this place-the service, the building, the atmosphere, the food, the cocktails, the specials! Arriving on a Wednesday night at 7:30pm, the outdoor patio was completely packed and there were a few tables seated inside and a few people at the bar inside as well. As my friends and I came there for half priced wine (every Wednesday!) and to watch karaoke, we found some empty rocking chairs outside and just sat there. I think we actually lucked out because they were super cozy. The karaoke was surprising. The singers/performers were all really talented and everyone in the 'audience' was having a great time. There were many songs where people got up and were slow dancing. The evening made me really happy. The souther porch obviously has a strong sense of community and happiness. It warmed my soul! The bartender (I want to say his name was Monte) was really friendly and fun. He had a good attitude and joked around a bit with costumers. Cool guy! I ordered a mimosa and most of my friends drank wine (as I said, half price Wednesdays) but they also have a full liquor bar and beer, of course. As for food, their menu is a pretty typical bar, with American food options such as chicken fingers, fried fish sandwich, BLT's, etc. I ended up ordering the black bean burger with honey sriracha and was super pleased. I loved my sandwich and the fries were tasty too. My friends all loved their food too and it sounds like the fried fish is what to order next time! This was our second visits to Southern Porch. The first visit was perfect. Great service, great food. Today was different. We ordered the collard bacon dip. I ordered the pot roast with broccoli casserole, lunch date ordered the prime Benedict. The dip was salty. It's served with fresh tortilla chips, and I ate it alone to make sure it wasn't the chips that were over salted. It wasn't. My broccoli casserole was inedible. Way too much salt. The pot roast was also over salty. I sent my entire meal back and said I didn't want another dish or my money back. Just please let the chef know it was way too salty. Not only did they charge me full price, they charged me an extra dollar for the broccoli casserole. Not a good experience. I won't go back. (The friends dish was too salty as well, but he was starving). Lol. read more

I really REALLY like this place. But they're struggling to keep staff. So sometimes you'll drive all the way there just to be told to sit outside in the cold on the porch and wait another hour because the staff didn't show up today. That's such a bummer! This was a great surprise. We pulled off to Engles for a quick snack, but decided that we wanted a meal. We pulled up the Google maps and picked restaurants. We had no intentions on having lunch, but man it was a great surprise. It is located to what seems like an old southern home. We were greeted immediately and were seated in the bar area. Our server who was also the bartender was super nice and has a great personality. This place serves Pepsi products, I always ask for a diet mountain dew but no one ever has it. Well not today! DMD for me! That was just the beginning... We ordered the pimento cheese dip some of the best pimento cheese I have ever eaten. The chips were freshly made and tasty. I ordered the Shrimp and Grits for an entree. The shrimp was cooked to perfection! Grits were creamy and tasty. App was a 9.4, entree 9.5. The Southern Porch was a favorite here in Canton NC,stoped in for dinner could only eat in the bar area or outside due to a party going on in the rest of the restaurant.
