What a great discovery in a small town. It is definitely worth the short drive off the freeway. Southern Porch was formerly the Imperial Hotel. I chose to eat in the bar. There are several unique indoor areas to dine as well as on the porch. The service was excellent. I tried the fried bread and butter pickles. I only planned to eat a few but they were exceptional and I consumed them all before my sliders and wood chips (homemade potato chips). The experience was memorable and I will definitely return when in the area again.

Hush puppies do not have pork in them. Dense over fried.

Worst food I've had in years very disappointed. This place could be a gem if the owners actually tasted the food. The menu sounds great great, but the food feels like something you'd find on an episode of kitchen nightmares. Save your money trust me.

Great place! We really enjoyed our quick stop in Canton because of this restaurant! My family and I ate out on the porch with our two dogs, they opened up the porch just for us, it was a warm day in February. We really appreciated it! I really want to come back to this cute town and help support western NC businesses!

We were passing through canton on our way back from the smokies and wanted a good bite to eat on a beautiful Sunday. It said the southern porch was closed on yelp but we walked by and saw people eating inside. Boy am I glad we walked by, they were having a brunch menu offering. My started off with an app of fried green tomatoes, they were paired with a really tasty ramp and bacon jam. Very satisfying. My wife got the chicken biscuit sandwich and thoroughly enjoyed it. It came with pimento cheese, bacon, and honey. My meal was the biscuit with chicken and eggs, kind of like a Benedict but with fried egg instead of poached, biscuit instead of English muffin, and sausage gravy instead of hollandaise. The restaurant is in an old house and has really cool flooring and other things like the wood burning stove. The outside patio looks like it'd be really nice to sit on while enjoying dinner. We'll be back if we're ever in the area again.

New place to start off our trip. The menu had a little for everyone. We started off with Deviled Eggs with candied bacon. Very qood. Claire had steak tips with mashed potatoes and large homemade onion rings. I tried one they were great. She really liked the tips. I had pot roast and braised Collard Greens. The pot roast was very good a very tender. The greens were good. Just a little under for me. No bread served with dinner and I couldn't get pepper vinegar. They have a super bar. Many HARD to find bourbon. I had Pappy Van Wenkel.

Having a delicious lunch with friends on the front porch was about as perfect as perfect can be. Charming town, easy parking, great food choices, relaxing atmosphere, fast and personal table service. We will go back as soon as we can. This place is on our short list of GREAT places to dine across the entire country.

Absolutely quaint mountain town perfection! The service was fantastic! As another reviewer noted, YELP states closed on Sunday, when in fact they have a lovely brunch that we greatly enjoyed! My husband loved the Biscuits. Incredible atmosphere in the fully restored Victorian home. We were in love with all of the details! Worth a stop in this adorable town! This stop was the jewel of Canton.

This place has a beautiful atmosphere and food was fabulous as well The town has a small town atmosphere that I fell in love with

I love the location. The food is always delicious but the wait is always pretty long. Even when we pick up. Not a major problem though.

The patio overlooks the golf course and gets a nice afternoon breeze. Service was good. Food was good overall. I'd give it a strong 4, but definitely not a 5. The pimento cheese burger with jalapenos was huge (must be half a pound of very high quality ground beef). So at $16, they aren't making a ton of profit on this meal. The side of sweet potato waffle fries was good but not great (a little too soft/not crispy enough). The blackened redfish sandwich was also good, but nothing stood out. There wasn't a lot of seasoning. The tartar sauce it was served with was okay, but it seemed like this sandwich needed a sauce with more zing (lemon garlic remoulade maybe?) to give the rather plain fish, with not a lot of seasoning, more flavor. The side of pimento mac-n-cheese was the high point of the meal. Using pimento cheese was a nice twist, and the top of the cheese covering the macaroni was nicely charred in places providing some crunch to contrast with the saucy cheese underneath. Limited beers on tap, but an interesting cocktail menu. It's definitely a great location with pretty good food, so a good place to eat in the countryside around Canton, NC.

Salads came out next. Meals ordered: I had the special chicken Marsala with fettuccine: my niece had Tuscan chicken with fried smashed taters; one great niece had grilled cheese with fries ; another great niece had chicken tenders Mac and cheese and fries ; nephew had braised short ribs over mashed taters and Mac and cheese hubby had a burger with fried smashed tater. The food was good with a few exceptions the Mac and cheese didn't have any flavor and the braised short ribs were more like stew meat in gravy. We loved the atmosphere in the building and the place was great to talk with members of your party. We will definitely try this place again

The space itself is genuinely grand, well-decorated, comfortable seating, a nice billiards room, and (maybe the highest compliment you can pay a pub) no old-bar smell or locals that make you feel out of place. The bathrooms were clean. The whole place was clean. For a neighborhood spot built around long conversations, it delivers. The drinks are the reason to come. The Riesling on the menu was good, and the winter bourbon (infused with apple), actually tasted spirited. What I appreciated most: no snootiness. Some Scottish and Irish pubs get precious about sticking to the house whisky program and gently disapprove if you order a cocktail or wine. Not here. They let you drink what you want to drink. Service was friendly and checked in at a good cadence. One note: the food came out way too fast. Appetizers hit the table, and the mains arrived about a minute later; we barely got into the fried cheese curds or tandoori fries before everything else was competing for space. The tandoor twist on the fries was a fun surprise, but generally the food read as average pub food. The salmon was dry (lesson learned: order it medium rare next time). The mashed potatoes on the shepherd's pie were the real highlight. 3.5 Stars. Credit where it's due: the menu is wide and actually vegan- and vegetarian-friendly, which is rarer than it should be in a pub, and there is a general playfulness in the atmosphere. What would push it higher: food that matches the level of the space, the excellent service, and the drinks. Pace out the courses, the salmon needs help, and strengthen the dishes a notch. We'll go back, just not for the salmon. The room, the drinks, and the staff all brought their A-game. The kitchen brought a B-game.
