As my friend and I were Door dashing up in the mountains of NC and we stopped at a TA travel center for some food. They had a restaurant called Country Pride and it was just like a IHOP or Denny's The decorations were cute for the holiday but the food was nothing to write home about. Soooo you're driving for like forever coming from Gatlinburg and you're starving....& this pops up with good reviews. Looks like it says, Country Pride---Mmmmk, let's do it. At first, OH no, it's next to a gas station, probably for truckers-then you go inside and the service is quick, the place is clean and the menu has Breakfast in addition to lunch! It's like "Perkins" but way better with real food products. We both got omelets and it was delicious. This is a diner. Sit down. If Yelp calls it "fast food," it's only because of how it's likely to pass through your colon. It's clean, as greasy spoons go, located in a TA truck stop. If you have delusions of the ratings this place has received by the current crop of Yelpers, you ascribe to the saying: "If this place doesn't meet your standards, then lower your standards." When I see "Hiring Cooks" and "hiring servers" signs, I should run, but it was close to our B&B in the middle of nowhere, so I bit the bad bacon and entered. The good news, truckers, is, if anything on your rig needs lubricant, that you can bring along the hash browns, and smear 'em on good. Scrambled eggs so hard that I found the "Acme" gag gifts imprint in the rubbery block. Toast was bread, with a hint of brown. Butter on it was scarcer than a Biden/Harris sticker on a red neck pickup truck. Better than a Waffle House. Worse than a Cracker Barrel. read more

Basic American grub - breakfast all day, pork chops, hamburgers, club sandwich and the like. Breakfast is excellent. Freshly prepared, eggs are cracked, shredded hash browns, toast. Nothing amazingly unique - but a hot fresh solid breakfast. Lunch/dinner different story - quality is all over the place. Would not order fish again, but pork chops were good. Hamburgers are decent. Awesome, we wasn't sure about this place since it was in a truck stop however it was around the corner from our hotel. We walked in the restaurant was very clean the waitress (Angela) was awesome and very friendly. They had a wide range of foods. The breakfast was amazing. One of the nice things I like really liked about it was they toasted the biscuit just like my mother did when I was growing up. We come down I-40 a lot coming from and going to Knoxville TN. The 4.5 star status is very misleading. It has to be the worst breakfast I've ever had. The eggs were a strange texture, the pancakes were a weird flavor and at the hash browns were full of grease (which they forgot and we waited while the server had to cook them. As a first time visitor to this part of North Carolina, Country Pride doesn't look like anything very impressive or special at first glance. It's connected to a truck stop and fuel station with lots of traffic in and out. After reading a few positive reviews, we chose this spot for lunch and left completely blown away by the food quality/price/value. For starters, the soup/salad bar was better than any chain restaurant salad bar I've ever had. A meal all by itself, really. Very clean, fresh and full of fruits/veggies and some unique items I've never seen on a salad bar. It was still pretty early in the day when we stopped (11:30ish) but a lunch crowd was quickly forming. This soup/salad bar is on a whole different level compared to places like Ruby Tuesday's, where I often go when I want to fill up on some veg. Country Pride's (amazing) soup/salad bar is included with (most) entrees. Speaking of entrees, they have a "special" they do on each day of the week. On Friday's, it's all you can eat whitefish (fried or grilled) with your choice of a side item AND the soup/salad bar AND as much toasted garlic bread you can handle. So. Much. Food. The price: 13.99. For all that. And the waitress was nice enough to offer me another plate of fish right before I packed up a to go box. The fish plate was outstanding. If they are taking a little bit of extra time to bring out your food, stay patient because it's definitely worth it. Good things take time, especially when they aren't pulled from a freezer. Good old time truck stop. Large menu, food is good. It's never too crowded to get a seat. The waitresses are all long term employees. You see the same faces every time. Last time, got one of the breakfast platters. They are LARGE. We split this one and we both were full. Their pancakes are --Perfect-- Definitely a great road stop. this is a course for the Country Pride not for the TA portion.. this has always been a very good through the years and still is back in the days of the travelport the roadway motor plaza the buckhorn Restaurant is it changed its name Through The Years course no longer 24 hours like the majority of ta restaurants but no surprise anymore.. that you take a lot of pride in this they have great employees great waitresses and a whole lot more that do a fantastic job at this one so caught up with you but they'll do their job right the salad bar is second-to-none it is always stocked fresh as can be all the soup choices leave a little bit for me but that's no big deal.. most people know I love carrots my whole life and I still do at just few months shy of 50 years old...BAHA! although that's a hard place to park in a truck car parking is still very good it does attract a lot of travelers and especially local still to this day.. the breakfasts are Fantastic four dinners are very good compared to the TA up there by Spartanburg South Carolina there a Duncan it's like night and day.. Easy off easy on for the interstate !! We will stop again when we travel through. This is also a TA for trucks paso g through but not a crazy busy one. The service and environment were inviting and comfortable, but the breakfast food was really disappointing. Eggs, both scrambled and in omelet, we're of the fake egg beater variety. Sausage was really off (processed, kind of spongy) and the gravy was definitely from a tin can with way too much salt and pepper. The biscuits were edible. The best part was probably the fresh veggies in the omelet. If you're looking for simple diner quality breakfast (not necessarily farm-to-table, but eggs that have been cracked right there and sausage that has more meat than filler), try cracker barrel on exit 44 or waffle house on exit 33. read more
