Called Wheeler Davis and spoke to the owner. Explained my needs, including a color correction and wanted a fabulous longterm stylist to work with as I was modeling. Discovered he booked me with the 'walk in stylist" so I only booked a consult. During my consult I realized the stylist knew her stuff and wondered why the salon wasn't allowing her to build a client base. Well I discovered why when a few months later over half the staff walked out due to poor working conditions, unhappy clients and along with a dose of snooty vibe. I followed the stylist who did my color correction and have been with her ever since. Heard Lo is interested in the Who's Who and famous people in the surfing world which I understand from a marketing standpoint. I booked a hair cut for today with Stephanie, the salon owner. My booking said the hair cut would be $80-150. I arrived at 11:20 when my appointment was at 11:30, and she was finishing her client still. No problem! She got to me on time and did our consultation before washing my hair. The haircut was fine as I expected. As a cosmetology student, I have been following & admiring her work on instagram for about a year. What I noticed was she didn't drape me for a wash, her tools came out of a bag so I can't be sure they were disinfected, and there was hair on my chair from the previous blonde client 5 minutes before me. I was so excited to get the layered shaggy cut of my dreams. Besides cleanliness, the issue came to styling & professionalism. She was rushed because as I would come to find out, her next client was at 12:30. This leaves literally no time between clients to properly clean and disinfect your station and tools...Anyways, I have coarse, dry, textured hair. This was not taken into account when she used high heat to diffuse my hair, very little curl cream product, and no heat protectant. I'm not dumb, I know this is to save time and $ on product. To say the least, my hair came out frizzy, not completely dry, and so poofy I wanted to cry. In fact I did in the parking lot lol. When she asked if I liked it, I was polite and honest and said i didn't like the styling and it was really frizzy and dry. I could sense she was offended. She offered a serum but I knew it wouldn't help my curls form at this point bc they were just blasted with heat to get me out of that chair quickly enough for her next client. I paid $155 plus $23 to tip. I was confused about this because I left with frizzy , not Completely dry hair... so i didn't know why it was at the highest price possible. I called hoping to get this resolved because I truly felt ugly after my cut and disappointed with my experience/ the fact that I spent that much on something that made me feel horrible. However when I called, she dismissed my problems, assured me that the online booking system told me how my hair cuts were with her specifically, but they didn't as you can see in the photos I attached. She kept interrupting when I voiced my concerns so I hung up after wishing her a nice day since she didn't want to hear my concerns or constructive criticism. I do believe she laughed at me over the phone but I'm not sure. I hope not. Please don't come here if you want to have a self care day or if you have wavy or curly hair. Save your money! **Editing this review to update y'all that stephanie left me a very long and condescending voicemail after I left this review. She mentions she doesn't understand the point of me leaving a review and that she doesn't know what i want from her... Any sort of suggestion/ resolution/ apology would have helped loads when I initially called her lol. I specifically told her I did not want anything stripey, chunky, or with any yellow/gold/brassy tones. Unfortunately, the result was the complete opposite of what we discussed. The highlights came out noticeably chunky and stripey, with harsh lines, poor blending, and a distinct brassy yellow tone that makes my hair look damaged and unnatural. I've never had a salon service turn out this poorly before. Lauren herself was kind and professional during the appointment, and I believe she tried her best. However, the final result does not match what was agreed upon, and it has left my previously healthy virgin hair looking compromised. I reached out to Kate Lane management the next business day with photos from multiple angles showing the issues (patchy application, thick streaks, harsh lines, and brassy color). I politely explained that I was too upset to return for a correction and requested a full refund for the highlighting service. They have refused to issue any refund. I'm extremely disappointed in both the quality of the work and the salon's unwillingness to stand behind their service when it clearly did not meet the client's explicit instructions. This experience has cost me time, money, and confidence. I would have still returned to the salon for regular haircuts and to purchase hair products if management had handled this situation differently. I have had my haircut here many times and it was always a nice experience. Unfortunately, I cannot even recommend them for that anymore. Customer service is everything and this situation was not handled fairly or appropriately. I would not recommend Kate Lane Salon for color services, especially highlights. Proceed with caution -- or better yet, go somewhere else.

I shared photos with a few other professional stylists to get their opinion, and they were genuinely mortified by the blend. I also want to mention that I was charged for removal, which I wasn't expecting based on what I was initially told.
