I have worked in the restaurant industry for years and have never in my life witnessed such awful service. My party waited 15+ minutes for even an acknowledgment from a bartender, and the only reason we even received one was by having to flag him down. He proceeded to be EXTREMELY rude following through the entire night. I understand things get busy and understaffed but that should never be an excuse to be rude to a paying customer. However, the entertainment was great and food was tasty. Would visit again if I could actually get some decent service. read more

I had a birthday meet up here the other day and it was really nice. My wife was able to reserve a table outside and they were able to accommodate the 8 people that showed up pretty easily. The owner mike (I believe that was his name) came by a few times to check in on us and make sure everything was going ok. We didn't sit at an actual table, it was more like a bar table set up but that was fine because it was easier for the group to talk to each other. The brisket sandwich was pretty good as well as the smoked wings. I really didn't hear anyone complain about there food. Service was little slow but I think that was more due to the amount of different tickets at our table and just a lot going on inside also. It didn't really matter too much to us since we were all just talking anyway and having a couple cigars. It's nice having a place where you can have a cigar without driving to ATL that seems friendly and just people trying to have good time. Inside they had some sort of line dancing thing going on. Everyone in there seemed to be enjoying themselves. Prices looked reasonable. They had a few specialty drinks that were about $9 each. But there is also a full bar so you can order what you want. Parking was free after 6pm in McDonough so that was nice. We would def go back. read more

Southern Roots Tavern & Eatery is in great location with the park in center of downtown. Free parking on the weekends. Great foods and fast service. We (11 golfers) were there for our 19th hole after play at Georgia National GC. Perfect atmosphere with opened garage door by the sidewalk. Cool live bands by feeling vibration. Every TVs on every wall even outside with large balcony. Good securities on the duty. Definitely stop by there whenever we play golf again. read more

This place is fabulous! We went Saturday for a late lunch and sat outside, great outside area! The food was fabulous and service amazing! Dee the general manager came out to meet us and she was so nice and welcoming! She invited us to come back that night to listen to the band Captain Fantastic, so we came back. It was my daughter's birthday and Dee sent over two deserts (see video) for us to share,and they were amazing! The night was just as amazing! I was a little apprehensive to try because I was so hype to try the pizza place around the corner. But, there was an hour and a half wait for my friends and I. So when you've explored the menu and are gearing up for one thing you kinda feel jolted when you realize it ain't gonna happen. But, there is always a ram in the bush. We walked down to Southern Roots just to grab a drink while we waited but ended up staying anyway. I actually enjoyed my visit and was pleasantly surprised with how great it was. The server was so amazing (can't remember her name but she had red hair. Shout out to you!!). I'm greedy so I tried the bourbon wings. That were so good!! And the brisket sandwich with some baked beans. Baby, my mouth is forever grateful. There was nothing they my tongue embraced that it wasn't thankful for. We were visiting friends so I'm kinda salty that there isn't a location here in VA. There was a live band and they were amazing as well. I love the natural wood décor of the inside of this place, and the food was really good. We went on a late afternoon so it was almost empty and no band was playing, but it seems like a cool place to go listen to some music. It has plenty of open space. We all ordered burgers that were excellent and got cheese fries with them. It was a little pricey but this was way better than some fast food burger. I would definitely like to go back and hang out next time we're in the area. This is located in the town square and there is parking all around though you may have to hunt for it some, and be aware of hungry parking meters. read more

Sourthern Roots Tavern is open for business! I work downtown Mcdonough but this was my first visit, my friend and I was looking for a place to meet up at and this spot was perfect. Our server was awesome!!!! He wore a mask, actually everyone had on a mask and was also very friendly, not very many customers ( probably due to Covid), the restaurant was spotless. My friend had a drink and said it was shockingly the way he makes his drinks- strong. LOL I ordered the grill chicken sandwich with a side salad and it was honestly one of the best I've had with cheese and bacon.... the only thing missing was so avocado. My side salad was yummy and very plentiful and the prices are not bad at all! This was my first visit but it will not be my last! read more

Great food at reasonable prices! Full bar & attentive staff with great music playing. It's impressive that the music is at the perfect volume in such large place. It's loud so you can hear it well, but you can still have a conversation at a normal volume. Love the varied music selection. Birthday party for a large party(14) here. Location was suppose to open at 6 but were late opening the doors. Once inside - things were great. Taken to a table located upstairs and service was great. SR had two servers taking care of writing to orders and drinks. They had two extra servers delivery food. Appetizers and drinks to start. Slight mix up on a couple orders with the kitchen but they made up for it by delivering cookies after everyone had eaten a delicious meal. Brisket was had by most whether it was the Wicked brisket or Dee's melt. Burnt end baked beans were Tasty. The burger tasted like I bit into a charcoal brick. Even my beer wouldn't get the burnt taste out of my mouth. The fried pickles and fries that I had were great, but stay away from the burger. I'm glad to finally see some real nightlife on the southside especially on the square in McDonough. The wife and I joined 3 other couples for dinner and a Journey tribute band. The band was good but not outstanding. The venue is well laid out both upstairs and on the main floor. My only issue was the sound. They needed to use the speakers upstairs for the band. What we heard upstairs was muffled. I suspect that is an easy fix for them and hopefully they address that quickly. The food was excellent. The brisket is tender and very flavorful. The wife really enjoyed her pork sandwich and she is a real BBQ snob so that says something. They have a great lineup of bands for the next 6-8 weeks so I'm sure we will be back. read more

My wife and I decided to try Southern Roots out for the first time, the hostess was sweet and attentive, but it all went downhill after being seated. I wish I could comment on the food, but after twenty minutes of sitting with absolutely zero recognition of our existence, We'd decided that we would take our business elsewhere. A piece of advice to management, your customers' satisfaction is the only reason you'll remain in business, it would be wise to invest in staff that put their customers over their conversations. We have been several times because choices are so limited on the southside. Service is always poor, drinks are super pricy and food is sub par. Music is too loud downstairs and hard to hear or understand upstairs. Also last event was suppose to be free/first come first serve, knowing it would be crowded we went early and all the table were reserved for regulars. Kinda of defeats first come first serve. This place is a RIP OFF! We (2 of us) bought tickets to a concert where we had to purchase a table for 4 to get in. The map showed the table was up front next to stage so we paid the $100. We get there and it's BEHIND the stage. Everyone sitting in the individual seats in the bar area got to see. All we could see was the back of the stage and the equipment. The food sucks. They charge $10 for two frozen egg rolls and the drinks are watered down. NEVER AGAIN! read more

Have been here for over an house with no service multiple waitresses have come out and gone to other tables or hung out with their friends. I finally broke down and went to the bar where I stood there for another 15 minutes before I could take the bar tenders attention away from his phone to get a beer that was more foam then beer.
