    Fried green tomatoes
    Christiane W.

I remember the Hush Puppy used to be a popular place...parking lot full and await to get a table. Nowadays it's a ghost town. Walked in and the place almost appeared abandoned, had to wait a few minutes for someone to come seat us. There was only one waitress working in the restaurant. Most of the dining room was empty. Lots of things had changed starting with the menu. No more specials or AYCE options. As I sat and waited I browsed reviews to see what others had been saying. Several one star reviews so it was time to test it out. Well they did not disappoint the hush puppies were burning hot out the grease melting the butter as quickly as you dipped or spread it on. They were delicious and moist. I ordered the fried green tomatoes and the portion was huge and they were seasoned perfectly and crispy. For my entree I ordered the catfish platter with a side of collard greens. The fish was seasoned and fried perfectly, not dry with the right amount of crisp. My only complaint was the greens they were bland and had no type of smoke meat in them. I had to put a little hot sauce in them to bring them to life. Overall the taste of the food was delicious but them prices are high...they definitely went up. Would I go back again...probably but I won't be running. I hope they can manage to stay around during this economy.

Sunday dinner.? I started coming to the restaurant in 1978. This was the edge of the city but we came in droves for those meals. The business has changed but I come back every few months because it had been the only place I could get catfish. Please know the restaurant is the original. The restroom, dining area, menu but not the chefs. I'm bummed. The fish isn't the same catfish. I was just here 6 months ago. The hot sauce is different. The waitress wouldn't bring the manager out. I informed her I thought we bartered the incorrect item if it was possible to get the other catfish. Farm or fresh water. Was it possible to get the version I don't order. Adam finally came from the back to the front where I was standing with He asked if this was my plate. I wasn't sure if he was the Manager because he walked the around the restaurant with the same pair of gloves. Touching everything. He informed me he was the Manager. This fish was the only catfish version the alternative was Swae. What I had eaten here for the 46 years before now was Swae. Adam was hostile, aggressive, defensive because I knew there was a difference in the fish, although I acknowledged I may have made a mistake. Adam seemed uncomfortable. He said the answer was to take the order off the ticket however, all my family had a complaint about the fish. I asked him to not proceed in this manner, but he insisted. I proceeded to my seat while beginning to write my review. Maybe he noticed and shortly requested my party leave. As my family and I left out, Adam the owner and Manager did mention he didn't give a bleep about a review and asked if I realize how many people like me he sees each day. I will not return and now where shall I get real catfish if not a home. So disappointing. I will move on. I'm happy to have had many, many enjoyable, honest experiences in this place. My parents, youth choir, children, husband and family since 1978. Good bye.

The food was delicious and the service was outstanding. Fried Green Tomatoes were cooked to perfection. The Catfish had a clean taste and perfectly seasoned. Sweet potatoe pie was wonderful.

So much better than the last time I ordered. Perfectly crispie delicious catfish. The fried green tomatoes are to die for. The hushpuppies were warm and melted in my mouth, the only thing missing was the honey butter which I forgot to ask for. I ordered for pick up but the service over the phone was easy. The resteraunt appeared empty at 3pm but the hoast was very nice. I miss the large alligator in the front but it gave the waiting area more space. New management well done from the last time I ordered about a year ago.

3 Blackened Catfish fillets with rice pilaf, green beans, hush puppies, and fries
    Amber O.

I've been here twice and the consistency in the service and food quality is comforting-- the iconic 'hush puppies' are more like corn fritters to me, but they are so delicious that I don't care what they're called, I want them in my mouth!! The corn flavor is almost sweet, the texture snappy with a good outer crunch and inner softness, plus they give you plenty of fresh butter to slather them with. Despite being blackened, I do feel the catfish could be seasoned better, because I could barely taste the flavors of the seasoning rub. In this picture I had french fries, but as a side dish I really recommend the Red Beans and Rice instead, the flavor is great on those and you can get fries anywhere. Loses 1 star because they only sell bottled water (no free water, which feels a bit stingy), but apart from that this is an excellent old-fashioned dining experience. The decor is nostalgic without being tacky, and I'm happy this place has re-opened after shutting down during COVID. The new owners seem to be doing the best they can with what they have. They even give you nice containers for your leftovers, because the portions are way too huge for 1 person to finish all at once. Yes, the price is high, but considering I got multiple meals out of each visit I think it's fair. Come hungry, leave happy!

Collard Greens and red beans and rice

First time at this place Let''s start by saying they now open for lunch! Which is great The service was good, a young man named Youne from Morocco was very friendly and helpful. The food was good, had the catfish/shrimp combo also had cup of gumbo and red beans and rice . Just a touch of salt would make it really delicious Since the early opening is a new thing not many people know about it yet so it was pretty quiet in there on a Saturday at noon There was 5 tables occupied. All in all I had a good experience and a good time there Will come back

    Drive Thru

Been dining at Hush Puppy since I was a kid, over 30 years. A majority of that was at the old Nellis location. Haven't been to the Charleston location in several months. Seems there are new owners and the prices have nearly doubled it seems. Went through the drive thru. The parking lot only had 3 cars when i pulled in. Its 6pm on a Saturday. I assume this is due to no longer having the all you can eat catfish everyday, so business has tanked (I assume). 4 cars in front of me. Waited over 30 minutes to get to the window. $11.89 for a two piece snack pack. Fish is still decent so for the price I wont complain. Probably wont be visiting this place again anytime soon though.

They could've said they were understaffed or they forgot to put in our order or something but no updates, absolutely nothing. I think they were even trying to avoid us because we're Asian. Also, a party was seated after us and left 10mins after. Honestly, we should've followed their lead. Chicken were 6.5/10; size of the chicken were huge I'll give them that. Our waitress was super friendly and upbeat but she immediately let us know that there was only one order of fried chicken left if we wanted to order it. We were not ordering fried chicken so it wasn't an issue but I thought it was odd that this is an item they would run out of on a Sunday. I ordered the chicken fried steak which came with mashed potatoes and greens. My husband ordered the catfish dinner which came with hush puppies, grits and greens. The food arrived pretty quick and was hot. My chicken fried steak was just ok. The mashed potatoes were good and the greens were the worst I've had. It was like a pound of sugar in them. Caught me off guard. It was so sweet that it was inedible. My husband's fried catfish was prepared perfectly! (We asked for it to be fried hard) It was hot, fresh and well seasoned! The hush puppies were a bit dry and taste like they roll it in the same fish fry as the catfish as it had a slight fishy taste but the grits were amazing! It had a white gravy/sauce on top of it and it was just soo good! I had wished I ordered his plate even tho we swapped a few forkfuls. One thing I noticed was the menu had changed. Based on other yelp posts, there were items that I had in mind I wanted to try when I got there like the egg rolls. The menu is vastly downsized from when they first opened which was a bummer. Usually when a restaurant downsizes their menu by that much, it's usually a sign it won't be open much longer. So go while you can if it's a place you've been wanting to try. We paid almost $80 for 2 dinners (not including tip). We did not get drinks since we had been drinking earlier. The price wasn't too bad for a sit down restaurant inside a Vegas casino.

Service was solid too, everybody attentive without doing too much. Drinks: I got the drink flight and I gotta keep it real... this was my only real complaint. Out of the four drinks, only ONE was good. I don't remember all the names, but the golden one with Jack Honey was cool. The other three? Easy passes. For $42, that ain't it. 3/10 Appetizers: Now let's talk food. The biscuits are CRAZY. Soft, buttery, fresh, and that pepper jam takes it to another level. They even put the jam in the hush puppies which is a power move. 10/10 The crab cakes were fire too. All flavor, real crab meat, no filler nonsense. Definitely something I'd order again. 9/10 Main Plate: I ordered the fried fish with Brussels sprouts and mac & cheese. The fish was top tier. Fried perfect, seasoned right, crispy but not greasy. 8/10 The Brussels were mixed with sweet potatoes, good balance, good flavor, just nothing that made me lose my mind. 7/10 The mac & cheese wasn't for me. Thick cheese sauce but no real flavor behind it. Just kinda there. 4/10 Overall: All in all, it was a good experience. Great service, good food, and a solid atmosphere. Even with a couple misses, I'd still come back and try more off the menu. Nellie's definitely worth checking out.

The service was friendly, and the Louisiana-inspired decor is cute and adds to the charm of the place. One thing to be mindful of: when ordering, our waitress casually suggested or repeated add-ons in a way that could easily be mistaken as part of the original order. For example, we ordered the traditional jambalaya, which also has a "loaded" option for an extra $10. We clearly wanted the original, but she repeated it as "loaded." Thankfully, my husband caught it and corrected her before it went through. Later, we noticed another table was upcharged for potatoes without realizing they were an add-on. Gritz Café Review…read more "The Day Vegas Introduced Us to Catfish, Sweet Potato Waffles... and a Missing Collard Green Mystery." June 17, 2026 -- the day Tiffany got insider intel from a Vegas local who told her, "You HAVE to try Gritz Café."That was all she needed to hear. She told me, I checked my Las Vegas Yelp food list, and sure enough -- Gritz Café was already saved. Destiny. Since Tiffany was already near the restaurant and I was still at the hotel, I ordered online. We couldn't enjoy the dine‑in experience this time, but we're saving that for the sequel. The Orders Tiffany went with one of her go‑to comfort dishes: Biscuit & Gravy Scrambled egg hard Potatoes with fried onions I saw Catfish on the menu and immediately felt spiritually connected. I ordered The Mississippi: 3 fried catfish pieces (grilled next time) Collard greens Steamed mixed vegetables Sweet Potato Waffle Extra tartar sauce Extra syrup Then came the hardest part: waiting for Tiffany and the food.I'm a smart husband, so I won't say which one I was more excited for. The Arrival... and the Plot Twist Tiffany arrived with the food, we unpacked everything, and immediately noticed two things missing: My collard greens Her scrambled egg Vegas giveth, Vegas taketh away. Tiffany's Biscuit & Gravy She said it was outstanding, even with the twist:The sausage was cut into pieces and placed on top instead of mixed in.Different, but delicious.Only the missing egg kept it from perfection. My Catfish & Waffle Combo The catfish wasn't as big or thick as the ones I get back home, but the flavor was outstanding -- seasoned and cooked perfectly. The Sweet Potato Waffle?A revelation.Perfect size, perfect thickness, perfect flavor.I'm now a believer. The steamed vegetables were... vegetables. They served their purpose and made me feel like I made at least one healthy decision. But I was really looking forward to those collard greens. Customer Service Redemption Tiffany called the restaurant and was transferred to the manager, Olivia. She was extremely apologetic and assured us the refund would hit my card by the end of the day.(At the time of this writing, it hasn't shown up yet -- but we're giving Vegas grace.) Final Verdict Even with the missing items, the food was delicious, the flavors were on point, and the service recovery was handled well. We're excited to return -- in person -- on our next Vegas trip.Because Gritz Café deserves a proper dine‑in moment.
