DO NOT BANK HERE! Corporate just let go of ALL THEIR branch employees at a time like this?! How dare you!!! The staff and tellers specifically at the Long Beach location were PHENOMENAL!! Specifically Mathu Meyers and teller Anahi were perfect examples of respectful, intelligent, kind individuals who I as a long time member have come to know and TRUST with my business. I'm pulling and closing ALL my accounts with Southland and telling friends and family to do the same. A bank that treats their employees this way does not deserve to have my business they can not be TRUSTED. Spread the word! Recently went to get cash from the ATM on Saturday afternoon (after the branch had closed) and the machine was unable to dispense cash. Why didn't the Credit Union ensure that the ATM had sufficient cash to dispense over the weekend. News alert!! People primarily go to the ATM to make a withdrawal and not just check their balance. read more

I read online that they have safe deposit boxes. After calling and waiting a few minutes thru the recording and then prompts to get thru to a live person, come to find out they do not have safe deposit boxes. 15 minutes of my life I will never get back. read more

If you have a problem with an account or a card, you will wait an hour to speak to someone. When I use the "call-back" feature, nobody calls back - ever. Complain about it to them online and you will get a Bot response. Three times I tried last week. No one to speak to at night or weekends even if you have a real situation with your Visa or debit card. Looking for a new credit union. read more

This is one of the best looking credit unions I've ever been to. The outside of the building doesn't look like much, but the inside has a very modern look. Staff is very friendly and welcoming. This is a new location for Southland, so it isn't busy at all. There are no restrooms which isn't a big deal. Also there is no coffee or tea available, which is a little odd since this is common at credit unions. Plenty of parking available everywhere. There are two ATM's, located outside next to entrances on the East and West sides of the building. Perfect location since it's in the same shopping center as Target, Trader Joe's, Starbucks, McDonald's, etc. Also, it's next to lots of major banks in case you bank with both credit unions and major banks. read more

As soon as I turned 18, I worked with Herman at the Long Beach branch and he set me up with a credit builder credit card so that I can establish credit. He was very helpful and he taught me so much. Not sure what is going on with SCU, but my wife's account erroneously was charged a Non-Sufficient Fund's Fee and charged $29.00 for online bill payment that she clearly had funds for. The $29.00 NSF Fee was reversed, however since the check was rejected a new check needed to be reissued per the 1st representative. It gets worse. We found out that the original check went through and since she re-issued a new check, she essentially paid twice. After calling again the next day to speak with a representative from the bill pay department, we were advised that she was out of luck for cancelling the 2nd payment and would have to contact the institution it was sent to in order to cancel it. Sorry that it happened, it's your problem now, just deal with it is basically how it was put to us. read more

SCU has the worst policies I've ever experienced, compared to other banks that I dealt with. First, the bank refused to let me open a checking account right away because there was a false credit report that showed I owed about $100 with another bank. When I showed the manager the statement that I paid it off, she still refused to let me open an account, causing me to miss on the $200 cash bonus. Second, the bank charged me $25 fee for depositing my check because the check has a different first name but with the same last name as appeared on the account. I know other well known banks accept the same check with no problems. Third, the bank charged me a $2 returned mail fee three times, even thought I already changed the online setting to electronic mail. Someone refunded me $2 only one time after I tried to change the mail setting again. Arguing with the workers there made me sick! read more

This branch has a coin machine. If you're a member it is deposited into your account. If not it's a 10% charge I believe. My son changed his piggy bank out yesterday. It was super easy to do and we didn't need any help - regardless the workers of course checked to see if we needed any. He can't wait to come back! read more

This is definitely long overdue but I'd really like to give my kudos to this branch. In specific, I've been working with the branch manager Herman since he was still at the Downey branch, but when you really get taken care of, what's a few extra miles to drive? Especially when we're talking about dealing with our personal finances. Anyways, about a month ago I came in to finance my fiancé's car and was very delighted by how smooth and quickly everything was taken care of for us. Not only did they help us get a great APR, but after running my credit, Herman also saw that I qualified for a line of credit that has helped me consolidate all my credit card debt into the line of credit. This helped me get a much smaller APR than I was used to paying and much smaller payments since I am no longer paying various locations. As most of you might agree with, debt is very very stressful, and not having that issue anymore, truly feels life changing.
