I wish I could give NO stars. I really wanted to like Southland Nails because it's walking distance from my house and apparently they've been around for 30 years. Unfortunately, I had a really disappointing experience from beginning to end. The overall vibe was not welcoming or inviting at all. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They were rude on the phone when I initially called, and unfortunately the attitude in person wasn't much better. The customer service felt cold, dismissive, and unfriendly throughout the appointment.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I went in asking for ombré nails and even showed them a reference photo of exactly what I wanted. Nobody told me upfront that they couldn't do it. Instead, they started the service anyway, completed a very poor-quality set, and only afterward admitted the person who normally does ombré nails was unavailable because they were at the doctor and the other person was busy. The result looked nothing like the reference photo I showed them. They eventually removed the gel, but by that point my time had already been wasted and the whole experience had become uncomfortable. When I questioned why they didn't just tell me from the beginning that they couldn't do the ombré, they became rude and told me they "couldn't help me" and that I should go to another nail salon. On top of that, I was cut on two different fingers during the appointment -- even after I asked the technician to please be careful after the first cut. They also told me they didn't have iridescent/chrome polish options, which was surprising since most salons carry them. [[HIGHLIGHT]]What made the experience worse was the staff speaking negatively about me in Vietnamese, assuming I wouldn't understand.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My dad was a Vietnam vet and taught my sisters and me quite a bit of Vietnamese growing up, so I understood enough to know what was being said, which felt incredibly disrespectful and unprofessional. I got my nails done here on April 15, 2017 with a 10 AM nail appointment and I have honestly never been so disappointed in the almost 10 years that I have been getting my nails done here. I must confess, I found another salon much closer to my house that has yet to mess up my nails, however every once in a while, I come back here for the nostalgia of the older workers remembering me from when I first started getting my nails done, in high school. With that being said, let me reiterate: I have truly never been more disappointed in the outcome of my nails in the last 10 years of my life, truly. My appointment was for 10 AM with Cindy on the phone and once I got there, I stated that I needed to leave at exactly 11:30 and was told that I would be done before then. While I am quite aware she doesn't control how long acrylic nails and gel polish take, I didn't mind waiting the 2 minutes for her to finish up with another customer prior to my appointment. After all, what is 2 minutes? At 10:02 AM, I sat in her chair for her to put on my acrylics -basically she just glued them down and cut them to a length much longer than I wanted. I informed her that I wanted them shorter, as an inch from my finger is much to long for me -and she replied with, "don't worry, I'm going to file them down for you to the size and shape you want." I then followed up with asking her if I was still on schedule to get a pedicure as well and she told me, she would be sending me to my pedicure then I would come back to her for my gel polish. After she finished, she sent me off to the pedicure area -asking what number I wanted for my nail polish: "535" which is a gray / lavender color at 10:08 AM. On to my pedicure. I sat in that chair with no water or anything for 20 minutes. At 10:28, someone finally turned on my water and threw in a blue cube to get my pedicure started. First problem? The water was FREEZING. I told both workers next to me, one finally turned the knob and I left my feet in. At 10:41, a worker finally approached me and began cutting my toenails. Well, I wanted them filed down into squares, but okay; it was too late anyway since she already started clipping away with the cuticle cutter. From there, I reminded her I wanted gel color number "535" (the gray / lavender color) and she grabbed the box she had and nodded to me. I put on my earphones and shut my eyes. By the time she was done, I looked down and saw my toe nails were bright pink and I'm talking starburst the candy, pink. I remind her that my gel color was supposed to be "535" to which she nodded again and sat me down to the drying station to point a fan at my newly painted toe nails. I looked over at the gel nail color selections and see, she painted my nails with "536" not "535." Whatever, it's 11:10 now and I don't have time for them to correct it. After 10 minutes, I'm back in Cindy's chair for a quick file. I say quick because she didn't file them down to the length I wanted, she instead filed the sides to make it extra sharp. I remind her I need to be out at 11:30 which is in 10 minutes, at this point -as I needed to run important errands. She tells me it'll be 10 minutes. That matches my time, so I said fine. She ends up painting my nails the "536" pink starburst. Whatever. It hits 11:30 and I tell her that I'm not kidding, I really need to go. She says wait 5 more minutes. I tell her I can't. My boyfriend comes in and pays, she starts rushing, I left at 11:33 with nails looking like nothing I wanted and like they were just glued on... $62 down the drain. This nail shop has been around for a long time. Although I am not consistent with getting my nails done, I have been here a few times. My visits have been few and far between. I came here about 2 months ago to get a manicure. It last for 2 weeks. Again, I had no choice but to come here because the one place I found in Brisbane that actually listens to their clients was booked. I had a manicure and pedicure. For the manicure I had to ask for more coats of polish because they were satified with apply only two coats. With gel polish I have noticied the thicker the polish the longer the life of the manicure. I also asked the woman to cut my toes nails short. Here I am 10 days later having them done and both are useless. I have to cut my toenails now. There is no way that in 10 days my toesnails grew that long and the polish is already gettting caught in my hair. I went back and said something to the owner and she said sorry. We only honor 1 week. 3 days DO NOT make that much of a difference. If you want to get your nails done right, go to Brisbane names in Brisbane Village. I guarantee your nails will be good for at least 1 month. Take your well earned money to them and they will not let you down. read more
