Ordered Pork chops and fries.came with a small side of spaghetti.

I've hit up a lot of mom and pop soul food joints here in town. And I gotta say this will be my new go to spot. I ordered the pork chops and fries it came wit a small side spaghetti. I typically don't eat random spaghetti. But decided to give this a try. And let me tell you the spaghetti was. The bomb reminded me of the way. I make spaghetti when I'm at home. Period the pork chops juicy cooked well seasoned well, a knockout. The French fries they seemed homemade had a slight little bit of skin on them. Cook very well seasoned very well all in all. If you have not tried this place, you need to A.S.A.P. Southpaw Soul Kitchen has moved into my top 5 mom and pop restaurants in the city.

Pork chops with cabbage and Mac n cheese

The food was ok. More time was taken on the presentation than the flavor. The Mac n cheese had a cream cheese flavor and the cabbage was bland. The pork chops were seasoned and fried perfectly. I also tried the lemon blueberry cake and it was ok; nothing fancy. Customer service was average.

I tried this place about a month ago after finding them on Google while searching for soul food in Indy. I held off on writing a review, because my Catfish Dinner was inedible that day. It came with Spaghetti which was edible, but I had to throw the catfish away. The fish wasn't fried thoroughly, still pink inside, little flavor, and had a weird smell. I took it home and fried it to my liking, but then I noticed that my whole house smelled of fish. The smell actually made me nauseous. So, I gave up and just threw it out. I tasted the spaghetti and it was ok. Spaghetti is just not my thing unless I make it myself. I still wanted to give them another try, because I love Oxtail which they offer on Sundays. So, I stopped by today, and I'm so happy that I did. The Oxtail Dinner w/ Cornbread was worth every penny! It was absolutely delicious and very generous in the serving size. I barely ate half of the meal before I was full. I was also surprised to find rice underneath the Oxtail which was also cooked with sliced potatoes! My sides were Mashed Potatoes w/ Gravy & Mac N Cheese. I just wish they had Sweet Potatoes today. That would have been the icing on the cake for me. Everything was made with love down to the food being beautifully plated & presented. Wonderful customer service, clean environment, and the lobby has even been upgraded since my first visit. I was also so happy to get real Mac N Cheese and not just noodles w/ cheese sauce like most places serve. If the quality of food & customer service stays at this level, SouthPaw should be around for a very long time. I didn't hold the fish situation against them, as I understand the various factors that could have contributed to that situation. Either way, I'll definitely be back for Oxtail on Sundays for sure!

Worth the trip as I had the gumbo. I got three meals out of this delicious entree. Will go back often.

I love their catfish sandwiches. The seasonings are perfect. I highly recommend this plus any sides you want.

For the life of me I cannot understand why this INCREDIBLE place gets only 3 stars!! I couldn't…read moredecide and ordered WAY more than any one person should ever order on their own LOL I got the fried catfish plate (with fries and coleslaw), the veggie plate (comes with three sides, I got dressing, mashed potatoes, and mac and cheese), cornbread, and the cucumber tomato salad. THAT CATFISH BABY! It was fried to absolute perfection. The crunch was absolutely perfect, the flavor was spot on, and the fish was so tender and perfectly cooked! The salad was stunning. The cukes had been sitting in the liquid for so long that they were translucent and it was incredible! I'm super picky about cornbread because it's usually so dry, but this was delicious! Could even get a bit of sweetness in there. Yum! When it comes to the sides: Mac and cheese was decent, not the greatest, not the worst, more middle of the road. Mashed potatoes were basic, dressing was ok but the texture did a number on me. Id get the mac and the potatoes again, but not the dressing. I don't usually like coleslaw, and this coleslaw wasn't bad! Overall, I'll be back!

Been coming here for years. It is a staple in Indy for ribs, and BBQ in general. My go-to orders…read moreare the rib tips and the pig feet. You can order the meat only or get a dinner that includes 2 sides and your choice of bread (white, wheat, or cornbread). They provide very generous portion sizes. The rib tips are the best that I have had in Indy thus far. They are tender and the seasoning they use is delicious. You could eat them without any sauce. However, the sauce is what takes it over the top for me. They offer sweet, medium, hot, or they will mix the sauces for you. The hot has a pretty good kick as a warning if you are sensitive to spice. I recently tried the Bar B Q bun, which is essentially a pulled pork sandwich. The pork is finely shredded and the sauce is poured on top of the pork. It's almost a fork and knife sandwich, as the bottom bun gets soaked in the sauce. Their sides have definitely reduced in quality over the years. I recently tried the mac and cheese and greens. As a note, they only have greens Friday - Sunday and they often times run out on Sunday if you do not get there early. The mac and cheese was dry and had little flavor. The greens, which used to be my favorite in the city, reminded me of cooked spinach and weren't seasoned. The service remains great. With the amount of people waiting while I was there, they were friendly and efficient. I wanted to order chess pie and there were not any readily available behind the counter. They told me they had some coming out of the oven in the kitchen if I was willing to wait and they brought it over once done. It is carry-out only, so be prepared to take it elsewhere to eat. You can call ahead to place your order as well.

I got the BBQ bun dinner with mac and cheese and green beans. I liked the flavor of it all. I wish I got the sauce on the side for the sandwich as my bun was drenched by the time I ate it.
