I've been craving a burger so I decided to try this place near work (med center). The place is super casual with a Texan theme. Order at the counter and take a seat and they'll bring you the food when it's ready. I ordered the mushroom Swiss burger which was $10.25 no side included. We also got the onion rings and fries. The burger was decent but not very flavorful or cheesy and the mushrooms could've been cooked more. The onion rings were great. The fries were home style fresh fries that were not very crisp but had a nice potato taste. Overall, I enjoyed my meal but it wasn't very memorable for me and I most likely wouldn't go back to spend $35 on that meal. I'd just try something else. I definitely recommend the onion rings though.

The customer service is not great! They take order but that's it! Not very friendly, not very welcoming but the hamburger was good!!! Bacon cheeseburger was savory and great size! Fries overdone, and dry! Not a fan but ok to eat when you are hungry! Ambiance is chill.

I was largely unaware of Southwell's as a local chain, but soon learned about its' nearly 40 year history as a business across several locations sprinkled around the city. Located along Holcombe Blvd just outside the Med Center, this location has been serving burger lovers in the neighborhood for close to two decades. Like many of the businesses in the plaza, this place is casual and sleepy, serving a mix of hospital employees, senior citizens, and nearby Rice students. There's a good number of medium sized tables and booths, and a bustling bilingual staff ready to serve. Lunch is going to be their busiest time, but they also do a fair amount of take out as well. As expected, the menu is very burger heavy. The non-burger options are really some sandwiches (#1), salads, with a few different kinds of fries and shakes, but that's it. Despite the two dozen choices on the menu that range from patty melts to chili hamburgers, the reality is that any burger can be customized. I tend to prefer a double bleu burger with avocado and a fried egg. If I'm feeling indulgent, I'll throw in some bacon as well. It's a sizeable patty and roughly the same price as the fast food joints across the street. (#2). It's not a glamourous burger by any stretch, but I think it's a solid choice for what it is. A special shout out to their fresh cut fries, which are nicely fried and not too thick but have plenty of crunch. It's not too greasy and makes for an excellent side to the burgers. The waffle fries, cheese fries, and onion rings come in a distant second. The milkshakes are not exceptional, but similarly to the burgers, they get the job done. I learned not all locations offer them, but rest assured this one does. At the end of the day, this isn't a burger destination less than it is a place to get burgers while in the neighborhood. Parking is aplenty, the menu is simple, the service is adequate and the prices aren't too overwhelming. Sometimes that's all one really needs in an establishment. ___________ (#1) Chicken. (#2) Whata-deal.

Bacon cheeseburger is pretty much perfect

Perfect classic diner in the heart of the intersection between Bellaire, west U, and rice village

The food was tasty. Loved the fries and onion rings. Would return for the onion rings. The burger was good as well, but nothing special, just a good basic burger. The salad was also good and surprising with the almonds and micro greens on top. A pretty basic place with booths and tables to sit and eat at. Time to get food was average for a grill and the place wasn't busy. All in all it satisfied our burger and fries cravings near the med center.

The food was fresh and came out fairly quickly. I stopped in for lunch randomly one day after a nail appointment nearby. The service was great. The cashier answered my questions and I saw her cleaning when customers left. Very friendly. I loved the family photos on the wall and the ambiance felt like a small town diner/ restaurant. It was the middle of the afternoon so saw people picking up food and a few diners like myself. I'd go again for the chicken sando . The fries were slightly thicker than shoestring size and perfectly cooked.

I had to go to Baylor College downtown with my two daughters. We stopped here afterwards and it's was cute and inviting. The woman at the counter was friendly and helped me with my order as I'd never been here before. The burger was really good. The chili cheese fries were good but not the best I've ever had. Milkshakes were awesome- taste like the ones you'd make at home. One of my girls ordered a corn dog and it was still cold in the middle. Pretty neat place, we'd definitely come back again.

I like to go to Southern beaches, I collect the SOUTH SHELLS Close to the Rio Grande, watch out for SOUTH CARTELS My upper body's fat-free but I can't burn off my SOUTH CELLS Maybe I should stop getting the burgers here at SOUTHWELLS! When I see my Barbi, I'm excited and my SOUTH SWELLS I use Compaq in the North, but I prefer my SOUTH DELLS McPherson from Down Under, Woods from AL, love my SOUTH ELLES And if I want burgers then I hed along to SOUTHWELLS! WHAT! There are 4 locations, and I've been to 3 so far. There might be more I don't know about. Southwells definitely have some of the best sandwiches in town and we always appreciate every single bite. Service here was not too bad, although I prefer the other locations for that. Southwell's is a Houston Legend and a specialty shop which has wonderful burgers and great chicken sandwiches, juicy and fresh and tasty with plenty of chicken on them. Barbi has been to a couple of them with me and she agrees, they have excellent burgers and really great chicken sandwiches. They're not cheap but they're not expensive, and service is usually great at all the different locations, including this one. One of the waitresses here, I believe she is from Peru, is one of the friendliest and loveliest people I've encountered in Houston, and she's why I come back here more than to the other locations. Yes, their products can be a little dry and a little plain, but easily 5 stars and way better than any of the chains. I love all the locations, but especially this one here down on Holcombe where one of the ladies is already a good friend, I've only met her 3 times. Absolutely wonderful service and wonderful taste for everything they serve. I'll keep coming back to Southwells because of her, and because of the taste. But as Feng Cha would say... not only the taste. So if McDonald's has lost its THRILL And sh**ty Shake Shack just made you ILL And the Burger King left you nothing in his WILL And Wendy's tastes like Dr. PHIL And In N Out just went DOWNHILL And Five Guys is a porno, not a burger MILL And that Gastropub got 5 stars from another SHILL And you don't have the money to fly to BRASIL To get your X-Tudo and Acai FILL And you're mis-educated like LAURYN HILL I can tell you a great burger, with no FRILL The juiciest thing this side of SEVILLE It's here, Southwell's Hamburger GRILL! WHAT! (But after you eat it, get on the f***ing Treadmill) (And if your arteries didn't get clogged yet, they soon will)

    Fantastic Hamburger togo !!!

I tried to get the man behind the counter to understand that I wanted half a muffaletta, with no mayo. I expressed this in several different ways, because the confused expression on his face indicated that none of it was registering. In the end I gave up and accepted the whole, giant sandwich wheel. It wasn't till I got home that I realized he'd misunderstood more than just the size I was asking for. I can't tell you how much I despise mayonnaise (unless I'm having a BLT, and am thoroughly in charge of the application of the condiment). Why would it even be an option, mayo on a muffaletta? It would be just as ridiculous to have to specify "no ketchup" on one. I don't mean to come off as overly dramatic, here, but that bite was more harmful to me than anything that has ever happened to anyone in the history of humankind. You're probably thinking, "He-LLO . . . Have you seen Schindler's List?" And you may have a point. I sat through that whole film just letting valuable hours pass me right by. But this sandwich thing was even worse. So, after all that bitching, why the five stars, Mike? Because I know it would have been good without the mayonnaise. And because I remember the old Antone's. Not gonna let one assassination attempt ruin that history. I can't go back until I'm completely fluent in Spanish, though. Como se dice "mayo" in espanol?

Switching her words back and forth and not believing what we had said. I asked how did we grab our stuff if I still have the device to notify when our food is ready. - Third she completely stopped talking to us and went to go help at other customers. I told her we want our money back and she said, "well I'm not going to refund for the drinks you had". Ma'am, that's not how you run a business. Just admit you messed up and take ownership of your mistakes to help a customer out. - Fourth she mentioned that other tickets have been lost today and other foods have been stolen before. This just shows how disorganized this placed is. We were able to ask for our money back but it was a battle about it. I was disappointed because we wanted to support your business but at this service? Heck no! Do not come here. And from reading other reviews now we did not miss on the food.

So when I decided to give Angelo Z's a try, I came in hopeful but ready to judge with the precision of a seasoned shrimp connoisseur. First, I'll give credit where it's due: the place is designed beautifully. Clean, inviting, well thought-out décor. The staff? Top-notch. Friendly smiles, fast service -- the kind of welcome that makes you want to pull up a chair and stay awhile. But then my shrimp po'boy arrived. And that's where things took a turn. The bread was toasted -- yes, toasted -- which, for a Louisiana po'boy, is already a red flag. To make matters worse, it wasn't even the traditional French bread that's light, airy inside, and has that delicate crackle on the crust. Instead, it was a dense, over-toasted loaf that crunched like I was chewing on a roofing shingle. Then came the real deal-breaker: I bit in and realized the shrimp hadn't been deveined. At all. And for anyone who knows seafood, that black line running down the back isn't some "seasoning" -- it's grit and waste. One glance at that and my appetite clocked out. I understand I'm not in Louisiana anymore, and I'm all for creative spins on classics, but there's a line between "putting your own twist" on something and missing the fundamentals altogether. Unfortunately, this missed the mark in a way I couldn't overlook. Beautiful space. Wonderful people. But for me? A shrimp po'boy that isn't deveined, on the wrong bread, and toasted into oblivion isn't a po'boy worth coming back for.
