Great burgers. Great service. I definitely recommend Wimpy's if you are going to be visiting downtown Houston.

The attitude from the cashier/owner was terrible. If you can't handle a lunch rush, staff up, simple. There's no reason to take your frustration out on customers, especially customers who have been coming here at least once a week for the past three years. Heaven forbid you ask what the lunch special is, because apparently that's an inconvenience. The handwritten sign outside is barely legible, so asking seems like a pretty reasonable question. And aside from this experience, it's about $18 for a very mid burger and fries. It is what it is, they have a captive audience, and I guess they know it. After being a regular for years, I expected a little better treatment than this. Bad attitude + mediocre food + $18-ish price tag = one star. read more

Its a good burger, but possibly the price up front though you typically spend the same price everywhere else in downtown during lunch. Good burger and tater tots. This is a small, unassuming restaurant in the downtown business district with different Southwestern themed decor on the walls. There was a wide selection of different burgers and sandwiches, including some vegetarian options. The food is ordered at the counter. When I end the restaurant was very busy and I could tell they were either understaffed or not used to having so many people at once, so there was a bit of a wait, but the staff took orders and payments very quickly and tried their best to move everyone along. I've been meaning to go here for years. See.s to be a nice local place. Guy at the cashier was very nice and everything went easy. I took to go but inside had lots of room (this was peak lunch time too). Back at my office, tots are good. A little on the greasy side but you aren't eating tots for health reasons. Burger is similar to one you may cook at home on the grill. Generous toppings and very good. Would definitely want to come back to try something else on the menu. read more

Woooow!!!! I wish I would have been eating here at Wimpy's Hamburgers!!! They have some Amazing homemade burgers. I had the Wimpy's Ultimate Burger and added a egg to burger. It was gone within 5 minutes. The burgers here are juicy and flavorful. The combo comes with Hot and fresh seasoned fries. There is an option for onion rings, curly fries or okra and sweet potato fries as well. It is a Nice comfy place to sit and eat or just grab and go. They have Great prices and wonderful customer service. Try it out!!!! read more

Quick bite and friendly owner. If you're in the area you should stop by. The price is great in my opinion and you get a lot of food. I got the Wimpy Famous Hamburger which came with fries and a fountain drink for about 13 dollars then I added some more for tip. The service was super quick too! Ordered my food and in the next 5 min or so the food was brought to me. It was yummy and warm. I was in the mood for burgers and this hit the spot. The restaurant looks homey inside - with some cool old timey photos on the wall. Would love to talk to the owner more about the history of the restaurant next time I stop by! read more

Tuck right next to the Russo's lies Wimpy's Burgers. On a Thursday, I came with a group of five coworkers around 11:00AM. We beat the lunch rush and had time to peruse the menu and ask questions. As an FYI, the first burger on the menu--the Wimpy Hamburger--simply means a plain old hamburger from "Wimpy's." We had thought it was some specialty burger with a secret of sauce or something. That's was not the case, so we quickly moved on to the next items on their menu. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger and enjoyed it. The burger was juicy and filling. You also get a good portion of fries, which you can enjoy with spicy ketchup. Overall, it was a decent price for the amount of food you get. As others have mentioned, it takes a bit of time for the food to come out. However, this just means that the burgers are freshly made. Also, beat the rush by coming around 11AM. When we left (around 11:45-12ish), there was quite the line. I would definitely return again! read more

First things first, I love their shrimp poboy and tater tots!! That's what I order 98% of the time. I have had their steak finger basket and fish and shrimp basket, but was not very impressed because they over cooked the steak fingers and fish. Other than that, my co-workers and I make a trip to this small burger joint every so often and everyone seems to love what they order. There are maybe 2 or 3 people working here for the busy lunch hours. The owner who works the register and takes orders also runs around and serve the food. He's always moving and working fast to try and serve food as fast as he can. That being said, we usually try to go there before rush hour or else your order could take a long time. Overall, the food is delicious, the service is decent, and the price isn't outrageous for being in downtown Houston. The only thing you need to keep in mind is go when it's not rush hour OR expect your food to take a good while. We just go early to beat the rush hour because their food is worth it! read more

Wimpy's Hamburgers are anything but Wimpy. 1/3rd lb meat patty, big, yeasty bun, and loads of toppings makes me a huge fan. I had the Bacon Cheeseburger, and it was delicious. I opted for a lighter built burger, only pickles and tomatoes, so that I could really get a feel for the quality of meat and bun (the bread and butter of the hamburger world). The beef was fresh, the bacon was thick, crisp and slightly smokey, and the bun was terrific. It wasn't as greasy as I was expecting, it didn't even drip on the parchment paper, which causes me pause. See, I typically expect a quality burger to be loaded with the "good grease." You know, the stick to your ribs, fatty juices that a quality piece of ground chuck will posses. Part of the essence of flavor, if you will. This burger didn't really have any of the grease, but it wasn't dry or flavorless. It was mighty, and tasty. It truly shattered my expectations of what a good burger should possess. Decent burgers and fries. The standard burgers are 1/3 of a pound and topped with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, onions, mayonnaise and mustard. They're not very greasy but still tasty. I usually opt for a cheeseburger wtihout tomatoes and onions. The fries are alright; not the best, but definitely not the worst. The restaurant is small, so it can get full on a busy day. Nice little burger place with friendly owners. I got here early as I read the place fills up quickly, and ordered the mushroom swiss burger with fries and a drink. It took a bit longer than I would have expected for the food to come out, which isn't really a bad thing, but I think they only have about 3 people working the place. The burger looked really good when it came out, but I found it to be a bit on the over done side, had it been a bit less well done they would be 4 star for sure! I came in with the intention of grabbing a burger this afternoon. I decided to go for the fajita salad since the menu called it out as being fresh. I waited 15-20 minutes for my food. Since I expected fresh I wasn't disappointed in the wait time, plus I had no plans afterwards. The chicken was hot and fresh. There was guacamole, a bit of eggs, and a couple of cucumbers and tomatoes added. Overall, not a bad salad. The lettuce was on its last leg, but the salad was still decent, especially since the meat was hot. I had ranch dressing which seemed a bit watery. Fajita salad comes with chicken, beef, or you can get it mixed. Service was basically taking the order and delivery of my food. It met expectations, but especially since it seemed family owned, I would have expected a smile or two:) It's still worth a try. read more

Today was my second time going here. The first time I ordered a burger and I was not impressed. But I thought "Hey, maybe I just a sophisticated palate when it comes to burgers. I'll let it go." Then, today's lunch happened... I ordered the chicken tenders. How do you mess up chicken tenders????!!!! It took forever to make... it was 10 freaking dollars for a 3 piece chicken tender basket... but the worst part was the mystery batter. I was initially afraid to take a bite out of one.
