It had been a long time since I last flew on Southwest Airlines and it wasn't the best I can say that. Some people like their open seating plan, I'm not particularly fond of it. We were delayed for a bit due to a mechanical issue so a lot of us missed our original connecting flight. Not my favorite airline but it is what it is.

Mostly pretty good service over the years. Love the free bags policy. Check in system can be daunting for first timers who haven't grasped the concept of lining up by group and row. And unless you are in the know, some people freak out about not having an assigned seat. Sometimes the connections can be tight if you are on the wrong side of the connecting airport. The flight attendants have great personalities and some of them are super entertaining. All in all, we like SW a lot.

I am a fan of Southwest Airlines, but not as much as I used to be. They changed their rapid rewards program, so it is not as generous as before. You get points based on distance/price rather than per leg. The change makes sense, but it benefits Southwest more than their customers. Southwest prices can be higher than other airlines too NOW (SWA used to be one of the low cost leaders). One plus is that they haven't started charging for checked-in luggage. You still get two free bags to check-in. Another negative is flying from LAX to Hartford, CT. There are no direct flights, so you must first fly to another city, then connect to Hartford (This is true for all airlines, so Southwest is no different than any other airline). I've had to fly through Chicago, Baltimore, Orlando, Houston, and Denver. It makes the trip to Hartford or back home to LA that much longer (especially if you have a long layover). The service on Southwest is usually above average and the flight attendants are friendly and personable. Overall, Southwest is still a good airlines, but not the cheaper alternative to other airlines any longer. Xie Xie!

Wasn't too sure about the boarding process at first but I am now in love with it and prefer it over the regular or "normal" boarding process on other plans. I am a window sitter and love that I can get on first and get seated and comfortable. I always pay the extra ten bucks for the early bird boarding. It's worth it!! Friendly and funny flight crews, they make the flight just that more enjoyable. Thanks Southwest :)

One of my flights got delayed and the transfer time would have been too short to make it onto my next flight (30 minutes), so I requested a change of flights or what they could do to accommodate me and they immediately got me to transfer at another location. So thankful. I feel like usually the airlines are pretty anal about it and take a long time to parse through all your information and options before they allow you to fly with another one of their planes. Also, the customer service line was virtually none so I quickly was able to get onto another flight which I'm grateful for. Was able to get onto the next flight smoothly but we were delayed an hour without much notice or information on the transition flight. Got home an hour past the plane was due. But honestly, I am incredibly impressed by how smooth the American Airline crew at BDL handled the flight delays and was glad I didn't have to sit on the phone with a customer service agent for hours on end.

Her flight from BDL ended up arriving 15min early which we thought was awesome so she'd have no issues getting to the ORD connection gate. But for some unknown reason AA would not allow anyone to leave the plane which caused my daughter to miss her connecting flight. The next AA flight to TUL would be at (10:00pm). She was upset and started to cry as she spoke to the AA gate agent. The gate agent laughed at her and rudely said "Happy Birthday". and know it was not my daughters BD they were just extremely rude. Needless to say we will never fly AA ever again.

The last several years have been tough on airlines but to some extent they deserve it. Increasingly…read morethese airlines have gotten into the habit of not regarding the flying public as the only reason they exist. The lack of customer service had become a serious problem as increasingly we were treated as though we were cattle being herded into box at the hands of flight attendants and gate agents that didn't seem to care a lot about their job. After American taxpayers dumped more than $50 billion keeping these airlines alive, it is time they behave as though they appreciate us. I have taken two domestic flights on United Airlines in the past week. On each, from the agents at baggage check-in to the gate agents to the flight crews and flight attendants I found people almost uniformly friendly, smiling, helpful, and telling me how much they appreciated me flying United. See, at least acting appreciative toward the flying public isn't difficult but it does take leadership. Keep it up, United. Other airlines pay attention!

But United has recently picked their non stop service to mid sized markets I now fly more often. Sadly, Delta does not have nonstops to either. I strongly prefer Airbus planes which I always get on Delta. But United is updating their Boeing, which better than they were but definitely not up to Airbus. Flight attendant teams seem generally better on Delta but here again, United is improving. Both airlines now have much more diverse staff than years ago and I am thankful for this reality. But connections and cost are always the major consideration for me.

"I'd like to shake your hand, Disappointment…read more Looks like you win again. " (Neil Young) I'm writing this up as two Air Canada Experiences. A) Ticket purchase and flight changes B) Airport check-in, flights, and in-air service Ticket Purchase and flight changes: It was very frustrating, and I was surprised at what a poor consumer experience this was. We needed to fly from Hartford to Vancouver and bought our tickets and selected seats six months ago. Air Canada routed us with two flights - Hartford to Toronto and then Toronto to Vancouver. I will swear on a stack of bibles that we received no less than six flight changes between the day we booked and the day we flew -different flight times, different flight numbers, different layovers, different everything. As our trip approached, someone tipped us off that we should check about seat assignments because our original seat assignments could have been changed. Well, they were changed. In fact, they disappeared! And to make matters worse, the AC website wouldn't let us make any changes. So I went old school, picked up the phone, and called Air Canada, except my call wasn't answered in Canada - it was answered by a customer service rep working from home in Florida. She was able to get us seats, but we had to pay for them. At this point, I was so upset with the whole process that I paid a second time. But, this young lady was stellar; she was helpful, sympathetic, efficient, friendly, and had a great sense of humor. OVERALL RATING FOR TICKET PURCHASE AND FLIGHT CHANGES - 2.5 Stars that would have been 1 star without our Florida helper. Airport check-in, flights, and in-air service At Bradley Airport in Hartford, we stepped up to the Air Canada counter to check in for Flight 8591 to Toronto and 115 to Vancouver. At the counter, we met a young man who was by far and wide the best Air Canada employee of our entire trip. As friendly and welcoming as any desk agent I've ever met. He weighed our bags, printed new boarding docs for both trips, and when it was time to board, he scooted over to Gate #1 and handled these duties effortlessly. The guy was a gem. Our flight to Toronto was great - very nice flight attendants and cookies served with the beverages. Our second and very long flight to Vancouver was different. Once in the air, my wife and I both agreed the flight attendants were not very friendly. My entertainment console (as well as the one for 2 passengers in my row) was crap. There was grinding static and interference so loud that movie dialog was impossible to hear. So, instead of watching The Fabelmans, I stared at the flight map for four hours +. There was beverage service offered twice, but no snacks with your Diet Cokes - no nuts or cookies or anything. But if I wanted to buy a sandwich or a pre-packaged snack, well, of course I could buy them. OVERALL RATING FOR Airport check-in, flights, and in-air service - 2 stars. I consider 3 to be average, and this was clearly below average Full rating for everything: 2.5 stars, rounded down to 2. I expected so much more from Air Canada, and except for 2 stellar employees, I was very disappointed with our experience.
