Rigby Island and New Pointe pizza
    Patricia B.

The restaurants in Deltaville were full at 8pm on a Friday night in early October which was unexpected, so our group of five friends drove to Mathews to get pizza. We called and ordered ahead, a Rigby Island pizza and a New Pointe pizza. When we arrived they were getting ready to close but the staff said we could sit on the porch to eat which was super nice of them. They served us drinks and dessert as if we had ordered for dine in. We were so happy to have such friendly and welcoming service since it was so late. Our waiter Michael was wonderful and we will certainly be back. That buttermilk parmesan dressing they have is worth the drive.

Cute little restaurant in the middle of the cute town center of Mathews. Not a huge menu, which I love because normally it means the food is fresh. This was definitely the case for Southwinds! Family friendly atmosphere and very laid back. While we weren't in the mood for pizzas, the menu changed our minds. The Caribbean Jerk Chicken pizza hit the spot! Great service and overall experience!

Great place to eat, fast service, nice casual atmosphere. We got the Big Island and Berkely 8 inch pizzas and the bang bang shrimp appetizer which I highly recommend.

*3.5/5 Let me preface: my crab cake sandwich was delicious. Filling. Scrumptious. Insert all other positive adjectives. Satisfying to the point that I'd give Southwind Pizza a strong 4 stars if not for the subpar service. I get it -- I've worked in the service industry before, it's hard to be smiley and cheery all the time. Standoffish service? It happens. But it's also hard to ignore the fact that we were a group of POC in a town that proudly flew Confederate battle flags on their streets. I'm not trying to assert anything or the other, but yeah, it was a thought in my mind. Not factoring this into the score, since I'm not sure how much control Southwind has over this, but the water had the weirdest aftertaste.

we were in the area and needed a lunch break. gave the Southwind Cafe a try. we had our little pupper with us and they have outdoor seating in the shade. Morgan quickly came out to greet us and take our order. our dog got a bowl of water. we decided to try the pizzas. we did the big island and the tangier island. they were delicious. they are cut into 4 slices but we only could finish 3 each. as long as we were taking home the other slices we had to add some cake for later. so we took home a slice of lemon blueberry and a slice of carrot cake. they were amazing. its good to know I have a go to place for food when I am in the area. you have to stop in here. friendly service, small town kindness and great food.

We drive an hour from Yorktown a few times a year to have lunch or dinner at Southwind. The pizza is great, the beer is cold, the service is friendly. We've had the Goodwin Island pizza and damn it's good!

I recommend ordering this dish, especially since our server deemed it as one of the restaurants signature dishes. I also had a glass of Malbec red wine, pair of quite nicely with my meal. One of the other guests ordered the corn dip, which had a side of pita chips to dip into. The corn dip was slightly thick and sweet, with a few slices of avocado sitting on top. Also delicious. We shared a dinner portion of oysters plus a Chesapeake burger, both of which were perfectly prepared. The oysters were huge and succulent with a very light breading. They were accompanied by fries and Cole slaw, with cocktail and tartar sauce on the side. The burger was cooked medium rare as I requested, and was especially tasty since it was topped with lump crab meat, bacon, lettuce, and tomato. I got it with sweet potato fries, which were dusted with a touch of cinnamon and were a perfect side kick for the burger. We ended up taking home about half of each meal because we wanted to leave room for ice cream It just seems wrong to leave a well-preserved early 20th century diner with a soda fountain and counter seating without having some sort of ice cream! We were pretty full, so we shared a hot fudge sundae, which was definitely big enough for us both. It had vanilla ice cream, a generous portion of hot fudge, whipped cream, nuts, and two cherries (since we were sharing). We had a choice of wet nuts or peanuts, and I chose peanuts, as the salty flavor is a nice complement to the sweetness of the rest. Overall, we enjoyed this visit and hope to come back. I'd like to try the Caprese Burger and maybe have more oysters. They offer gluten free buns as an option, which is a helpful touch as well. Whether you live in Matthews or are just traveling through, it's worth a stop.

We popped in for a casual beer break, and it quickly turned into one of the highlights of the day. The space itself is gorgeous! It's open, airy and designed with a laid-back coastal vibe that fits Cape Charles perfectly. You order both beer and food inside at the counter, which keeps things easy and low- key. I went with the Pilsner, and it was exactly what I wanted, perfect after a day out exploring. Their beer list has something for everyone, whether you're into lighter options or something with a bit more depth. We didn't order food this time, but everything coming out of the kitchen looked incredible. They've got plenty of options like burgers, nachos, and other brewery favorites that definitely seemed worth trying next time. What really stood out was the atmosphere. There was so much going on in the best way. They had a dog adoption event happening outside while we were there, which added such a fun, community-driven vibe. They also host live music and other events regularly, so it feels like there's always something to check out. The outdoor space is huge and perfect if you're with a group or bringing kids. There's a fire pit, games like cornhole, and plenty of room to spread out and hang for a while. Definitely the kind of place you plan to stop at for one drink and end up staying much longer. I will be adding this to my must visit list anytime I'm on the Eastern Shore.

However, if you want to substitute onion rings instead of fries it will cost you $8 extra, making it a $26 meal. So really you're just buying a side of onion rings and also not getting the fries. This is not a substitution. This is buying more and getting less. Please tell me how this makes any sense!?!? I gave quite a bit of push back along with some real life number crunching... but the employee could not seem to understand the lack of logic that, based on their menu prices, an onion ring substitution should be more like $1, and not $8. This is adding 45% to the cost of the meal which is absurd. This is not a surcharge, it's just buying onion rings and also not getting the fires that come with the meal. I wasn't going to pay $26 for a burger, so got the fries which were actually amazing, but not what I wanted... and the burger just was okay... but I can't seem to get over their lack of understanding that this makes no sense. Just write no substitutions if you don't want to bother catering to your customers! I was a tourist heading home from a mini vacation and REALLY craving onion rings, this venue made me super grumpy for no good reason except stubbornness and lack of math skills and reasoning and customer service. Not impressed.
