Disappointing they were out of multiple items one of which was the soup which does happen at end of business day. We initially called and they were out of soup so we asked if they were out of anything else...they said no. We said we'd call back and when we did, there were about 3 additional things they were out of. The falafel was overly spicy and drier than typical. The chicken gyros were just ok. I got the chicken kabobs and when I got home, they were burned black on one side and very dry. The cook turned them over and was probably happy it was for a to go customer who couldn't easily bring it back. No amount of sauce could account for the dryness. I could hardly cut the pieces with a knife. We did like the Greek salad dressing and there was more feta and olives than we typically see. Pita was black/burned on the back on every piece. Obviously the cooks don't care about providing quality food and seemed to have an attitude when the lady working the cash register was double checking the order. I came here over the long Memorial Day weekend with my family and we were seated immediately! It was a beautiful sunny day outside and the restaurant itself was bright, blue and decorated with Santorini photos. It really helped maintain the Greek ambiance! What I loved most about this restaurant was the many options it had. There were salads that were served with pita so they were still filling, sandwiches, platters, rice bowls, and more! The prices were also so reasonable and the quantity was huge. I got the small salad and it was super filling! I also liked that all the ingredients were fresh and made from whole foods. I could hear every crunch of lettuce from my salad and the pita was baked to perfection. I just wish the chicken was softer as it was cooked too much in my opinion. Very clean renovated space. They are following Covid protocols. They are looking for waitstaff so owner greeted us. Very pleasant person and he made sure we were happy with our meals while we ate. We stumbled across this local gem while shopping next door at myknobs.com . We were pleasantly surprised with the portions and friendly service. The grilled chicken pita was seasoned very well. The fried shrimp pita was amazing. The tzaki sauce was flavorful. Crispy french fries as requested. The amount of fries in an order was huge. The owner was grateful for our business andf thanked us for choosing their establishment. The only negative was that the bathroom needed some attention to cleaning. read more

Bayville has been one of my favorite places to visit and lounge at the beach while eating a Greek Gyro from Souvlaki Place across the street. This restaurant has been at its location for years. Their website states that they have been in business for forty-six years, although some people tell me they believe it's been there longer. Since I have enjoyed the Mediterranean on many of my travels, I find similarities of the water front of Bayville to those of the Greek Islands. So it's fitting to have Souvlaki Place right across the waterfront serving many residents and tourists that venture to this wonderful town. For the many times that I have eaten at Souvlaki Place, I have only ordered their Gyro or Souvlaki pita sandwich. I am sure that their homemade Spinach Pie and Baklava are probably awesome also. The restaurant recently renovating its entire dining room and exterior. What I found new was that they provided an Ice-cream station that providing most of the popular flavors. Its YUM! Pure YUM!! I love the food here. Its fresh, its delicious, it's quick, and the staff is friendly, and the restaurant is clean! You really can't ask for anything better! Little local place across the street from the beach, I'm sure in the summer is a gold mine! The only downside is that they are a little pricey, but who is in theaters. Went here for lunch today after a morning kayaking nearby. With a good appetite my friend I we pleasantly treated to a wonderful lunch. I ordered the gyro sandwich with fries on the side. Some greek restaurants very often cheap out on the protein they give you, whether that be lamb, pork or chicken. Not today at the Souvlaki Place!!! My Gyro had generous cuts of lamb and tzatziki sauce!! Their fries are also fantastic, seasoned & crispy, just how I love them. I would add one last comment about eating here during the COVID period. I was here a month ago before indoor dining was available. We were so happy they were open that day and we were able to get food to go. Today we ate inside. You have not had this level of delicious when it comes to Greek food. Let's get the bad stuff out-of-the-way. They're not open 24 seven. Now everything great about this place. The food beyond belief, the owners magnificent, the chefs magnificent, The servers magnificent, the environment cannot be matched. Are you still there why are you not here eating. This place is not at all a fancy one; however, looks aren't everything. The food was amazingly delicious - cooked to perfection and the portions were very impressive. There didn't appear to be any waitress/waiter service as we placed our orders at the register then sat at a table and waited for our food to be freshly made. Since we were a party of 6, the manager wanted to make sure we were all served at the same time; so, when everything was ready, the food was then brought out to us by one of the staff members. To be young again! Bayville for me brings back such wonderful memories. My first management job, my first arcade and of course my first gyro. I didn't know it then but lamb meat is excellent! "Souvlaki" was this run down restaurant we would hang out at and eat food. To my surprise all these years later, this place got a serious upgrade. First off the place has wonderful lighting courtesy of the natural sunlight from the outside and large windows. The first thing I noticed was the digital menu board above. I was amazed with how beautiful it was. It all came together, the nice clean floors, the rustic blue counters, the open space concept, along with comfortable seating made for a pleasant visit. When I ordered, I also talked to the employee for a couple of minutes, he was friendly. Forgot your wallet? No sweat, they allow you to pay with your phone (welcome to the 21 century)! It's easy to pay and go now. I got my food and sat down to eat. Everything changed, because the food was great. I loved the gyro. I even asked him for extra yogurt sauce for my meat and he gave it to me free of charge. This place is perfect if you want to visit this small beach town. When I started coming to Bayville 2 years ago I stumbled across this place and was so happy to have a greek restaurant close to home. The food was great and the customer service was exceptional. UNFORTUNATELY, things never stay the same, do they? Over time I have noticed that the quality of the food has really gone down hill and the service isn't great either. For the last year they haven't gotten an order right once. Today, for convenience, purposes, only, I decided to order takeout for me and my father on the way home from work. I ordered two gyros, one without onion, and a side of fries. When I got there, the order came out to be close to $34. I understand the price of food has gone up, but 2 gyros and a side of fries $34, seriously? There's a place in Melville you can go to and get the exact same order for $24. Anyway, I digress. When I got the order home the first thing I noticed was, they made both sandwiches without onion. My father's sandwich was hot and to his liking, mine barely had any type Zieke sauce on it, a good portion of me that seem to be over, cooked and dry, tomatoes, no onions, which is not what I asked for. On top of that my pita was wet and soggy, and the french fries were cold, over cooked, dry, and tasteless. They were so old and off colored. I actually thought they were sweet potato fries. They were horrible. I brought my sandwich back to them and requested they remake it because at this point just adding onion was like I saw the fact that the meat was overcooked, and the pita at this point was just soggy and a mess. They weren't happy about remaking it, but they did and all, though the pita was still soggy, the meat tasted fresh and juicy and had tomato onion, and tzatziki sauce. Just now, in my emails I noticed a second receipt. They charge my card for a third sandwich without telling me. Talk about GREED! Not only will I be disputing this charge with my bank tomorrow, but they have lost a customer for life. I will never recommend this place, I will never send people there, and I most certainly will never order food from them ever again. The food is terrible. The service is terrible and I can think of much better Greek restaurants to go to slightly outside area.. if I can give this place zero stars I would. The absolute worst of the worst. You don't have to be the best restaurant, but you can admit when you screw up an order and do what you can to make the customer happy. I have been going to this place since the original owner. Food has been consistently good; that's not my issue with the place. I have gone during the winter, when the new owner struggles, and have continued during the pandemic to give them some business. I went last week, during the week; got there to get food and watch the sunset. The girl working there tells me... "They have a strict policy on orders before closing" Since when?, you mean you don't want the money? There is no one walking around town, no business... THEY REFUSED TO SERVE ME The new owner is in the back, preparing take out orders... THEY REFUSED TO SERVE ME That's what the new owner thinks about customers. Nice small Greek restaurant. The BBQ wings were quite tasty. As for the chicken nuggets do not get the hot sauce in it, it might be too hot for you. If you are using the bathroom, is right by the candy machine, make a right. The ice creams are pretty big with 3 scoops, is kind of too much for one person. Surprisingly the food here is very good , it's not fancy at all , very simple and excellent prices . I've been here several times and I've always been very happy with the food ,prices and service . The burgers are delicious and juicy , the souvlaki platter is also very good , the salads are delicious , the rice pudding is homemade and amazing and the coconut ice is to die for , idk what they do differently but it's the best coconut ice I've ever had in my life !! My only complaint ( why I gave four stars and not five ) is that the employees clean the tables with Windex while your eating and personally the smell of windex or any cleaning products is not exactly what I want to smell while I'm eating , Im happy they are clean but just don't do it while the customers are eating!!! read more

What happened to their pita pockets gyros. It's been more than a year and they keep saying their supplier is out of them. How about getting a new supplier? The chain supply excuse is old now. This seems to be a popular place to eat at, for it to be after 10:00pm when my friends and I arrived there was a pretty big crowd. I ordered the pizza fries which cost around $5.00 and my friend order hot wings and cheese fries cost around $7.00. I have to say the pizza fries were quite good, you have tell the sauce is homemade and fresh. Also the mozzarella cheese was fresh. The hot wings were good and crunchy, the place seems to be know for there gyros and ice cream. Even though it was late October, the weather was still nice and several people were ordering ice cream cones. They offer several different favors as well as sundaes. The staff was were nice and engaging with the customers, the wait time for your food wasn't very long. Roughly 5 to 10 minutes. I wanna like this place as I enjoy eating Greek food and this restaurant is conveniently located with a great view of the Long Island Sound just across the street. I thought I'd give the place another try as I saw the sign that the restaurant is "under new management and newly renovated." This is repeated on their current menus. I ordered an open-faced gyro sandwich ($6.95) and waited at a table for at least 10 minutes before they delivered it to me. Unfortunately, I found the meat to be tasteless.
