I highly recommend this mom & pop, diner like experience, in the heart of little Oyster Bay Village on the Island! Our server was friendly and continually refilled our water glasses without thinking twice and even the counter person who took our payments for the bill, was warm and kind. There are plenty of breakfast options, and the coffee was fresh, but I went with the "Oyster Bay Burger. It had mozzarella cheese, mushrooms, grilled peppers ( I told them to HOLD the peppers) and fried onions. The order arrived quickly to the table. The burger looked delicious, was delicious and was lip smacking tasty!! When that 1/2 pound bad boy came out, it was HUGE and it was love after first bite ! Fresh ground beef, Cooked to perfection, and so very juicy ! My mouth waters thinking of it now. Again they have PLENTY OF BREAKFAST options and at a reasonable price. Fruits, juices, eggs, toast, muffins, omelets, griddle specialities and more until 11 A.M. The rest of the menu carries traditional diner fair. You've got appetizers, fruit and juices, salads, beverages, Greek style salads, hot and cold sandwiches! The place has that ol' traditional diner feel, with wooden chairs & dining tables. It's like stepping back into a old time diner from the 50's. It's cozy and when I was there it was packed with people, seemed like a lot of locals. There is street parking in the front, but it can be challenging and tough. I recommend, though, I didn't know this until I used the restroom towards the back of the restaurant, that there is EASY PATRON PARKING SPACES IN THE REAR OF THIS RESTAURANT! I came here because I wanted a hearty breakfast over a swanky toast/ açaí bowl and got so much more than I bargained for. I had little to no expectations but loved the beautiful tile and natural lighting in this diner. My egg white omelette was fresh and the coffee is strong and delicious! The service here was top notch and I'm a sucker for all things traditional so I really appreciated all the uniformed waitstaff in crisp white button downs. Great institution! We visited after exploring the oyster Bay railroad museum . Was freezing outside and I wasn't hungry. My husband got a huge burger with grilled onions and I had hot water and lemon. I was worried that I'd have to eat something or be charged, because it says on the menu that during lunch and dinner there is a seven dollar minimum; when I asked they seemed OK with that. I wished I was hungry because they had so many wonderful things on the menu and so many delicious looking plates of food coming by our table. Next time I'm visiting family in the area. As an Oyster Bay native who knows the relevance and importance of Taby's in the community, I can confidently say that I'll never get a burger there, let alone a meal, again. An order of fried clams came out within 90 seconds of placing the order. Mozzarella sticks that took the same amount of time with cement blobs of cheese in the middle. The speedy food wasn't a good thing. Then, the Smother burger. It lived up to its name, but literally and figuratively put a bad taste in my mouth. With absolutely no flavor, too. I had to eat it with a fork and knife due to the bottom bun being so soggy that it crumbled. The unsalted fries were what they were, so whatever. It was also dead silent in there at 6:15pm on a Friday night. I KNOW that Taby's isn't a "hip" spot. It's not fine dining, not gourmet, and you know what you're paying for. But for me to have vomited half of burger later that evening, my dinner-mate and I both to wake up the next morning with a completely dry mouths due to our meals, getting no sleep (this was our last meal for the day) and questioning our food choices, we won't be back. Nostalgia for a staple in our hometown aside, the quality of food here is severely lacking and has dwindled steadily over the years. The staff is very attentive and friendly, I'll give it that. But what killed it for my party of 4 was an employee started mopping the floors which overwhelmed us with the smell of bleach or some other chemical with strong fumes, shortly after they served the meals. What a great place ! Introduced my friend to the great Tabby Burger ' was blown away. Haven't ever had anything here other than a burger. The blend in the burger is outstanding. I'm not sure what they use in the blend but whatever it is amazing. The desserts as well are top notch I have had the lemon meringue pie as well as the tiramisu cheesecake. Coke hungry. Love to order calves liver but everyone knows only a small group of diners or restaurants have that on their menu. The best place I've ever ordered was way out in Suffolk County until my daughter found Taby's Burger House. I ordered the Taby's Famous 1/2 lb Burger Oysterbay with mozzarella, mushrooms, grilled peppers and fried onions, Also available as a deluxe burger served with French fries and a deluxe salad, which is mixed greens, tomato, feta cheese and vinaigrette dressing. Very good except their need to toast the buns because the juices from the burger soak the bun causing it to fall apart. We hadn't been here in 12 years and the waiter remembered me and said, "No cheese in the salad, right?" Pretty impressive. The service overall is amazing here. On the other hand, while the burger was good, I had hyped it up too much in my head. Same with Greek salad. Reason it 4 was instead of 5. I'm not as big of burger person as in the past. My family patronized this restaurant for literal decades and loved it, never had an issue, but we wouldn't step foot in it again after being spoken to incredibly rudely by one of the owners and being humiliated in front of other patrons. No excuse, especially considering the person the owner's rudeness was directed at was a senior citizen. Reading some other poor reviews here and elsewhere, it seems like this is a pattern - if the owner decides she suddenly doesn't like you, expect to be accused of any number of things. But she'll happily take your money. It's too bad, because the rest of the staff have always been lovely. I'm all for supporting family-run businesses and supporting local, but there are many other excellent restaurants in town deserving of patronage rather than this once-great spot. read more

Taby's has been around forever! I've been going to Taby's since the early 90's. Everything there is spot on. The breakfasts are amazing. I love the corn beef hash - it's fresh and tasty and nice chunks of corn beef give it a lot of flavor. All the eggs, pancakes and waffles are good too. This time we overslept and ended up having lunch. My burger deluxe came with a small (actually quite large portion) of Greek salad. The lettuce, tomato and feta with some vinaigrette are simple and yet amazing. I could have that every day. It's super fresh. The burger was cooked perfectly and very juicy. The skinny fries were crispy and piled in a huge mound enough for 3 people. So good! He ordered the sauerbraten - it was a strange choice for a diner - it was amazing. The meat was juicy and tender and fall apart delicious. The red cabbage was vinegary and tangy just like it should. Taby's is fairly small for a diner so there might be a wait. It seems the business owner responded to my honest review by saying that I was "spreading hate" and "we should all be supporting one another". Excuse me, the only "hate" was when her father suggested rudely that I should "never come back" to their establishment. I told the truth and as a former teacher she should know that bad manners on her father's part are unacceptable. As for "spreading hate" she should look over the poor reviews they have gotten over the years and realize that none are related to the food, rather the rude and unprofessional attitude of her father. Clearly, this was not an isolated incident and I am not alone in my feelings. Awful....Never coming back! This place has been here for a very long time and I don't understand how people put up with how rude the owner of this establishment is. Others have told me that he is not very nice and is an arrogant man. I found it out for myself tonight. When I got my check, there was a $3 charge for a refill on my fountain diet soda. This is a glass that was filled to the top with ice and very little soda. That's not the worst part. When I asked the owner upon paying my bill about the charge he said "we only give free refills on coffee and tea". I said, that's ridiculous and that will prevent me from coming back. His reply was "it's a free country do what you want!". Wow! It is in fact a free country and luckily now we have a voice to share these type of experiences with others. I emplore my fellow Yelpers not to ever visit Taby's in Oyster Bay! If this is the way the owner runs his business and treats his customers l, one can only imagine how he treats his staff and it leads me to believe that he may be approaching the food quality and vendors in this unprofessional fashion as well. Pay attention to how they cook the burgers (steamed under a glass?!?) and order a bit more well-done than you might normally, unless you want a semi-bloody mess (sorry...). Only downside to a great, reasonably priced meal. Next visit, I'll probably stick with one their tempting breakfast choices or Greek specialties. Really great food for a very reasonable price. My go-to is an omelette (usually mozzarella, tomato, and spinach). It comes with toast and home fries. If you're really hungry, I highly suggest any of the burgers. Get it deluxe and it's enough to feed a small village. It comes with a huge plate of fries on the side as well. The place is pretty clean and the staff are always friendly. Only downside is the tables are pretty small so I don't recommend for a party of more than 4/5 people read more
