The first time we arrived without a reservation and we asked if Jimmy was there and was informed he wasn't - we shared our long history of his many backyard raw bars for our family parties. The staff was happy to help us and low and behold a cancelled reservation gave us our perfect table. I actually got teary eyed as a looked around the beautiful restaurant that truly compliments the amazing food. We returned the next day before a wedding to finally see Jimmy for amazing raw bar and a delicious lobster roll and cocktails. I will travel from NJ for Schultzy's again and again. It was served with a sad handful of arugula, and at $39 it felt like a complete rip-off. Honestly, my local pizza place serves a better chicken cutlet. Dessert didn't redeem the meal. The crostini was forgettable, and the ice cream tasted like a generic supermarket brand. The restaurant itself is cute, but it's unbearably loud. We spent half the meal saying, "What?" because we couldn't hear each other across the table. The service was just as disappointing as the food. It was slow, and we had three different servers throughout the meal, making the experience feel disorganized and impersonal. With such a limited menu, you'd think the focus would be on executing every dish well. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. Save yourself the disappointment and spend your money elsewhere.

I found it's no easy task to find fresh vegan food in these parts, let alone places that deliver throughout Nassau and Western Suffolk counties as does Conscious Kitchen LI. So I was very happy to stumble upon CKLI's pics of beautiful fresh veggie concoctions on Instagram, perused their weekly online menu and placed an order via their secure website (note: currently CKLI is a delivery only biz, no eat-in facilities). Food is made from scratch, locally sourced and organic. For my first delivery I got: 1) weekly special salad - microgreens, chick peas, beets, asparagus, strawberries, almonds and other goodies with miso dressing on the side; 2) Falafel Hummus Wrap; 3) Thai Butternut Squash Soup; 4) Pasta Fagioli Soup; 5) Green and Red Juices. My food was delivered on time, nicely packaged in compostable containers. I enjoyed everything I ordered and portions were pretty good, especially the pristinely fresh salad which weighed in at 16 oz. Fresh squeezed juices were especially delicious, housed in cute glass bottles that one can exchange at the next order drop-off. Soups were more like stews, thick, hearty and well spiced with fresh herbs. CKLI is a small biz that delivers locally (0-5 miles from Glen Cove) from 5-6:30PM, and 5+ miles away from 6:30-8PM. I fall into the latter area and got my food at 6:30. Delivery is flat rate $5 Glen Cove local and $6 for other LI towns, not bad if you're placing a robust order. For now my cheeseburger-addicted hubbie took a pass on these vegan vittles, but I'm still hoping he'll try something from my next CKLI deliver lol. Whether you're a dedicated vegan or just looking for a fresh healthy alternative to the usual oily caloric takeout fare, you may want to give Conscious Kitchen LI a try.
