    Oyakodon - ~10$

Wow. A hearty Japanese meal for around 10 dollars in the bay area? I'm sorry, what? This is the definition of a no-frills lunch spot - walk in, order from a pretty standard menu (there's other things like Katsudon, Gyudon, Teriyaki Chicken, etc), wait in line for your number to be called, and get out the door in less than 15-20 minutes. It's not gourmet food for sure, but 100% beats ordering at a place like Yayoi and paying 20$ for a disappointingly small meal. The chicken was incredibly tender, savory, and slightly sweet. The juices infused the rice with a TON of flavor. I usually have trouble finishing the rice when I eat meals like this, but I had no trouble scarfing this down. Will be back soon.

Our office manager ordered catering from this place (which is the catering division of Suruki), and our company really enjoyed the food! It was a "Make Your Own Rice Bowl" lunch event. There was a lot of variety (Pork Katsu, Chicken Katsu, Chicken & Beef Teriyaki, Salmon, Vegetables). I had a blast putting a little bit of each into my rice bowl. I would definitely order from here again, especially when I need catering!

I came for the sushi, I stayed (and waited it out like a cheapskate) for the post 6pm 50% off sale markings. I'm not above slightly aged sushi at the rate of 50% of the retail price. And I have to hand it to Abby S for the tip above not being afraid to throw some elbows when old ladies try to push and shove their way to the good spicy tuna bowl. Good call, Abby! Unfortunately, I didn't get the good spicy tuna bowl... I got the 'meh' spicy tuna bowl. Not the best flavors and kind of tasted a tad discount, but the rest of the goodies I picked up were a damn good deal. The plum rice ball was perfect, Albacore Tuna sashimi was a steal at $4.75 for a half pound and at that price I didn't have to be stingy when I took it home and the cats were begging for bits. Not to be missed was the under-a-dollar peanut butter and nutella mochi. Ridic!

I love buying sushi from here! :)

This place is a hidden gem! I would not have known about it if it weren't for Lydia! This cute Japanese market has everything you could possibly want! They also have a section full of takeout with sushi rolls, bentos, onigiris, seaweed salads and other amazing foodies! Some things I picked up here were Salmon Onigiri, Spicy Tuna Bowl and CROQUETTES! So delicious! I highly recommend you stop by here if you get a chance, prices are cheap and food is great!

Barely any meat from a $8 lunch box.

Seeing an all-Japanese kitchen staff and sushi chefs immediately gave us good expectations--unlike a lot of Instagram-viral sushi spots run by non-Japanese owners where we've been disappointed before. It's not a flashy, high-end fine dining restaurant, but rather a clean, welcoming neighborhood sushi joint. The overall quality is very solid: sticking to the basics, well-executed, and super fresh with zero fishiness. We ordered the 8-piece Chef's Omakase (which came with a complimentary Tamago for $63--prices seem to vary depending on the daily fresh catches listed on their daily specials board). Most people seem to order the omakase and then add extra dishes. We also ordered: * Hamachi Kama * Deep-Fried Baby Octopus (wonderfully tender and delicious!) * Salmon Tacos * Miso Soup We paired everything with a dry, clean sake that complemented the sushi perfectly. The service was exceptionally friendly throughout our meal. While it's not a "mind-blowing" fine-dining experience, finding a reliable, fresh, and well-priced sushi spot like this in the area is a huge win. We'll definitely be coming back whenever we're nearby!

Though on the pricier side ($45.99 per person w/o tax + tip), the quality of fish is better than most AYCE sushi spots that I've visited in the Bay Area. My favorite things to order were their Sake (Salmon) Belly Nigiri, Fish Crush (fish on fried shiso topped with salmon), and Robata (skewers), but you can't go wrong with any of the sashimi or roll options! Service was a bit lacking but we did go on a busy Saturday evening. We had to call a waiter or waitress to give us the tablet to order each round, and we ended up making it to 5 rounds within the 90 minutes they give for the AYCE. They also have a rule for ordering where each person can only order one starred item per round - which I found a little strange at first. I did appreciate how the AYCE came with hot sake though! We didn't have a reservation and almost had to wait an hour, but a spot was open where we squished our party of 5 to a 4 person booth (I'd recommend making a resy). We got there during dinner hours and were seated right away, party of 6. The place was nice and modern inside and staff was friendly. System: The way it works is that 2 non-star item and 1 star item per person per round. No problem, or should I say there is a problem. They DID NOT have UNI and SCALLOP available to order. So I'd ask about the ame-ebi and there is an additional charge. Now, these are like the main star items and they're out! So now we are just having oysters and so call Wagyu nigiri. Oysters were not the freshest and the rice fish/beef ratio on the nigiri was OMG, SMH. Well, at least it comes with free soft drinks and sake. I would not recommend coming, especially for dinner at $60 per person after tips and tax. If you are going to come, come for lunch and call first see what they Don't have. Besides the fried rice, the tuna and salmon sashimi are large, fresh, and high quality. Many times when I eat sashimi that is not very clean, it upsets my stomach and makes me want to use the restroom. However, the food here is both clean and fresh, and I had absolutely no discomfort after the meal. I also ordered chawanmushi and stir fried udon, both of which were very well executed. I would give full marks to this restaurant for both its sashimi dishes and main courses. The service is good, the environment is clean, and the dishes are priced normally, perhaps slightly on the higher side, but the value for money is reasonable. The only downside is that parking around this area is quite difficult. Overall, however, I would recommend this place to anyone who enjoys omakase and appreciates high quality Japanese cuisine.

I think this dish could work if it focused on a more succinct concept. Chu Toro / Otoro - The fattinest of the bluefin really comes through in the cut, but it also tastes like the fish has been sitting there a while which starts to add a slightly unpleasant fishiness. Tuna Salmon Tower - Classic notion of Japanese style tartare tower that tastes very pleasant and smooth with richness coming from the fish and avocado. The fish needs to be diced significantly more so it can eat like a tartare though. Kajiken was the perfect Michelin-recommended lunch stop before my flight out of SFO! There was a…read moreshort line when I arrived, but the staff turned tables quickly and kept everything moving efficiently, so the wait wasn't long at all. I ordered their #1 recommendation, the Homura Aburasoba, and immediately scarfed it down. Popping the perfectly runny egg yolk into the noodles was incredibly satisfying, and every bite was packed with rich, savory umami. The noodles themselves were thick, chewy, and had a great bite that held up well to the sauce. I also tried the Wagyu dish, but it arrived more cooked than it appeared in the photos, which made the texture and overall experience a bit underwhelming. The sauce also leaned on the creamier side, which isn't my favorite pairing with Wagyu, so I'd probably skip that one next time. That said, the Homura Aburasoba alone is worth coming back for and easily earns Kajiken a well-deserved 5/5.
