This secret gem is just what was needed. I had an amazing day today. When I walked in the door I was warmly greeted and was offered coffee, tea or water. As I filled out the paperwork the receptionist and hairstylist engaged in friendly chatter. Once in the massage room, it was the right temperature, candles and the sound of rainfall gave a calming peacefulness. I removed my clothes and layed on the table. To my surprise. The bed and towels were warm and inviting. When the masseuse entered the room she did a quick orientation and started on my back. Man she was amazing! I fell asleep and woke up feeling like a million bucks! My husband was also very impressed with their massage technique and professionalism. This was our first time here. But it will not be our last! Wow. Just wow wow. I've had a lot of massages and the one I had with Mariabelen was one of the best I've ever had. So soothing and relaxing. I got the aromatherapy massage and I feel SO much better now. The smell was amazing. The music. Everything was just perfect. I will definitely be back. Fabulous!! Great haircut and Color. Hector is amazing. He is very soft spoken and patient. It was the first time I was coloring my hair. Hector did a skin test for me when I went to schedule my appointment. He understood that I wanted a color close to my natural color and he suggested the perfect color. Clarification: 4-star in Jersey City standards. 3-star in NYC standards. I have tried their nail and facial services. Both regular mani-pedi and gel mani services were solid. Regular mani lasted a week, while gel mani lasted 2-3 weeks without any issue. Tried their facial using Groupon last week. Unfortunately had a terrible haircut. I showed a picture with long layers and got a cross between a bob and a mullet. The front layers are so short it is even awkward to wear a headband. I went back to make the layers a little more even - Hector apologized but it's going to take months for me to not be embarrassed by my hair. read more

The salon is very well kept and staff were friendly. They were very flexible with my appointment time which I appreciated. I went in to get a gel mani. I would've had a better experience but this is why I couldn't.. My nails were t ruined or anything, but the girl doing my nails filed off more of my nails than I probably had left. Not length but the nail thickness. She thinned out my nails so much it was sensitive when she was putting on the nail polish. Secondly, I wanted my nails squared and instead of even squares, she filed my nails at an angle. It looks more diagonal and just uneven. Most salons do three thin layers of color. At spa blue, they did two chunky layers of color and it came out very uneven. Another problem I had was that my nails looked like it was done a week ago. The gap she left between my cuticles and the nail color looks as if my nail grew out for a week. I've never had someone leave such a big gap frame before. That was my experience. read more

This was my third visit at spa blue! I have always visited with a Groupon deal because their services can be expensive without them but worth the money since the service you get is relaxing, the place is super clean, the people are very nice. The only thing is with Groupon customers they are very specific with what you can and can't do. When I bought the Groupon it said either a gel manicure or regular mani/pedi but when I called to make an appointment I was told it's only regular mani/pedi with the deal. My Groupon was also going to expire but I was told I can't extend it by even one day (most places do this has common courtesy). They have parking which is a plus, you have to enter on the Montgomery St side and the actual business is located in Marin Blvd. Their regular pedicure is much better than other places around Jersey City (journal square area) so I would suggest splurge and go here for sure! Went for a massage here, paid the full price, tipped enough, I didn't have cash so I asked him to add the tip to my card only but apparently that is not okay so he told me he will charge 3$ extra for the tip to which I said I don't want to pay that charge , I wasn't rude but they guy threw my card on the table to me and said get the hell out of here this is the last time you're coming here, I said who would want to come back for this service to which he goes again "get the hell out of here". This was the worst service and service provider ever, I don't think it was normal behaviour, it was totally Karen behaviour. I will never recommend this to even enemies. Super disappointed overall. They did not have multiple gel nail polish colors they offered. My first nail tech didn't know the different nail shapes then got offended when I showed her a picture of what I wanted. The only redeeming quality was the nail tech I switched to, she was super nice and very talented. When I checked out they added on an extra charge for getting one nail painted a different color (saying that was equal to nail art). Then the owner entered - who hadn't been there until that moment. Glass of wine in hand, Hector proceeded to yell at me about "that on your hands, that's called art". To top it all off the receptionist didn't give me my 15 percent discount even though she said she did. For 90 dollars of services, 15 percent would be 13.5... they only took 5 dollars off. To sum it up: -only one talented nail technician -no variety of colors (even though they advertise them) -rude, visibly drunk and drinking owner -overcharge you while they distract you by yelling at you Don't waste your time. There are plenty of other places to get your nails done in JC. This is not the place. read more

Clean, bright, relaxing atmosphere. Great service. My manicure lasted more than a week. After 2 weeks it's a little chipped, but still intact except for the tips. Note: I used my own polish, just because I happened to bring it. I'll update if I use theirs. Wondering if it would still last as long. Highlights: They used a hot stone for basic pedicure (love) and the chairs are all brand new and great. They have huge windows so it's super bright - which I love. I'm not usually into modern decor but it's well done and works for the space. I like the blue/white color scheme - It's spa like, not too 'cold,' reminiscent of Greek beach The owner (Hector) and manager were very friendly and checked in to ask how everything was and seemed genuinely interested. Owner also offered tea and brought it to me which was very nice. The owner was also willing to apply the first time visit discount offer I remembered I saw, even after I had already paid. I especially appreciated the great service since all I was getting was the basic manicure/pedicure. Nothing fancy, but they made me feel welcomed and appreciated which is amazing (and unusual) in a nail salon. I was probably the only person in there which doesn't hurt, but still - they went above and beyond. They didn't take tip on a card and the ATM was through a hallway to the apartment building it's in (Metropolis). The ATM didn't work so I still have to bring a tip when I return. I think my nail tech was Marie who was very sweet and did a nice job. I have visited Spa Blue twice for a 90 minute Deep Tissue massage and both times I had a great experience. The staff is kind, they always offer water, tea, or coffee when you come in and give you water after your massage. Lucy is a really great masseuse, listens to your needs and how the body responds to certain movements and works harder on those areas. I called late in the day for an appointment and Hector was about to close, he told me to come in and he did a full color correction on my hair and gave me low lights and highlights and hand painted the toner and gave me the best haircut! This place has the WORST customer service I have ever seen in my life!! Especially after giving them business for 2 years! I have come here many times for many treatments and my sister in law did some bridal treatments before her wedding. I went in this morning and they made me get up (pretty much bullied me into it) in the middle of a treatment to move my car because an employee had to park their car and lied to me by telling me that there is separate visitor parking. After I moved my car, I was told by a lady at the parking entrance that there was no parking and I should "get out". When I went back to the salon to ask them, they confirmed that they had made me move my car fully knowing there were no visitors spots. It's insane that any place would treat paying clients this poorly. worst experience and attitude!!! This salon is super friendly, clean, and does excellent work. A few drawbacks have been the wait time because there are not a ton of nail technicians on site. Even when I call to make an appointment, I sometimes still can't be seen. In addition, compared to a few other nail salons, their prices are about $10 to $15 higher.
