One of the activities I wanted to do in Morro Bay was get a massage as I've been long overdue for one. So, my friend went online, found and booked us a slot for a 90 minute couple's massage at Spay by the Bay. This business is located directly across from the Post Office and I mention this because one wouldn't know it without actually walking up to the building and looking around because it looks like an office complex. I didn't see a parking lot but it's because there was ample street parking even with streets being closed for the Farmer's Market which was only a few blocks away. Anyway, we walk in and both Annie and Mickie immediately greet us and they're friendlier than the staff I've become accustomed to at the massage joints in Westminster and Garden Grove. They situate us in a dimly lit room which soft classical music playing and get down to business as soon as both my friend are I are ready. My massage was wonderful. I was brought to such a relaxed state that I fell asleep and was snoring away halfway through. She used enough pressure to work out the surface tension and used heated stones in the process. There have been only a handful of therapists who have been able to relax my body to the point of sleep and this was one of them. As I sit here composing this review, I'm not sore like I usually am when I go in for a deep tissue or trigger point massage which is normally what I ask for to work out my physical tension. My friend has mentioned that she wants to come back to visit Morro Bay again because there's so much to do and see. Time permitting, I'll be sure to book another session here at Spa at the Bay. BTW, there's a Yelp check in special. $50 for an hour massage. We went with another special - $85 per person for a 90 minute couple's massage. read more

I booked a massage here based on all the rave 5 star reviews, but my experience was definitely not what I was expecting. I really wish I could rate higher but I really want to be honest about my appointment. I had Robert as my massage therapist. There wasn't much of an intake process, no sheet to fill out, he just showed me to the room and asked if there was anywhere he should focus, no other questions. I had to tell him I prefer not to have my feet massaged and was met with a disappointed response, that he was very good with feet and asked if I was ticklish. I very politely just declined, not feeling I needed to explain myself, and was left to get ready for the massage. This was the first odd thing to me, if you ask someone to skip a part of your body, there should be no follow up questions or disappointment, just a "no problem". When he got to the feet later in the massage he again brought it up, like I was supposed to have changed my mind, this was very uncomfortable. Otherwise, his massaging was really good, not the most professional of techniques but very relaxing and could find the problem areas. I really could have just relaxed with the nice spa music and his lovely massage, but he tried to upsell on add-ons, like CBD oil, during the massage, which I remembered seeing on the site was an extra charge, so I remembered in time to decline, and kept telling me he did longer massages and kept remarking that he hoped I came back for more appointments...during the massage! And a little lighthearted chit chat might even be ok, but he kept talking about how he has to work three part time jobs and so on, it just wasn't fitting the 'relaxing' massage vibe, and I've never encountered a massage therapist wanting to talk through my massage and about such mildly uncomfortable topics. He really is a nice man and meant well, it just was not the experience I thought I was paying for. read more

You could tell they understand the body and focus points to ensure deep relaxation. I had my massage here today and had to write a review! I am from the Bay Area, but come to Morro Bay every summer for vacation. I decided I wanted to get a massage out here so I yelped a massage place and chose Spa By The Bay and I'm sooo glad I did! I had my appointment today with massage therapist Danielle and I have to say it was easily hands down the best massage I've ever had. I've had many massages in my life, and I've never left feeling completely relieved. But somehow, Danielle changed that experience for me. My massage felt so tailored to my needs and I never even had to say anything. She really analyzed where I had tension and was able to relieve everything! She was even able to relieve tension I been dealing with in my lower back ever since my c-section 4 years ago! We were visiting the area a few weekends ago with my in-laws and my husband booked a last minute, Sunday morning massage for his mom at Spa by the Bay. We booked her in based on the excellent Yelp reviews and hoped that the experience would live up to what we had read. It's always a bit of a gamble sending someone to a spa that you haven't visited yourself! We are very glad that we sent my mother in law to Spa by the Bay--and so was she! My wife and I booked a couples massage here while on vacation. This place is small, but has a wonderful atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and and fun to talk to. We went in the room, and had one amazing hour of relaxation. They really know what they are doing here. They worked us both from head to foot, and I feel so much better than I have in a Kong time. I even had recently developed a pain in my heel very recently, which was completely gone after our session. One great aspect, besides how great it was ,was the price. Wow!!! I just received a 90 min massage from Natalie and I had to get on here right away! I told her how amazing the work felt, but I also want to make it publicly known! I have been around Bodywork for 30 yrs, since my Mom went to massage school back in 1989. She would practice on us kids and worked with my different teams as she originally specialized in Sports Massage. She has gone on to study and practice many other modalities, including all the water work! Needless to say, I have experienced an incredible amount of diverse bodywork over the years. In fact, I have taken classes myself, including energy work, Thai Massage, and Jahara Aquatic Therapy Technique back in the 90's. In addition, I just finished the 200hr Massage Practitioner course and enrolled in electives to complete the 500hr Massage Therapist certification. I met Natalie who is expanding here schooling to be state certified as well, because when she originally went to school only 250hrs were required. This was all just context for describing how amazing Natalie's bodywork is!!! Again, Wow, I am blown away!!! Natalie has a depth of touch that transcends deep into layers of muscle tissue. It's hard to explain, but as she described it, her intention is to get at the ever deeper layers of tension and adhesions. It was true! Great massage place in Morro Bay. Mickey is well-rounded and great at trying to address your problem areas. I have been to many different massage parlors and this may be my new favorite. I will be back and would definitely recommend this place for anyone who hasn't had a good massage recently. I have chronic scoliosis and other injuries, and let me tell you massages are just as important as chiropractics if not more. I will never go more than 4 or 5 months without a massage ever again (waited a year and my body is a mess) and I'm glad I found this place! Already feeling better! Mickey was very accommodating when I booked my appointment. We parked in the back of the building and met Becky and Natalie. The day spa is small and I believe it's by appointment only. If I recall correctly Becky was the one who gave me a massage but it didn't matter because my Aunt enjoyed her massage as well. They provide a little bit of hot stones and for $65 that was way, way worth it. I was pampered by Becky, or Natalie, (sorry I don't remember) for an hour. My husband & I try to get massages when we're on vacation without kids, and this one was one of the better ones we've had. We had a 1 hour couple's massage with Annie and Mickey and my back is still happy. They use aromatic oils, and hot stones to massage with. I'm a fan of hot stone massage, and loved that Annie used the stones to make long strokes on my tense neck and back-- delicious! She put a line of stones along my spine while she massaged my legs and feet, so when she worked on my back I was already relaxed.My husband is not a fan of hot stones, and the technique didn't change his mind, but the rest of his massage was as enjoyable as mine. My honey and I came here for a couples message on a Sunday ( normally closed ). It was good, I cant remember the therapist that worked on me but she was good and super friendly. As for the other therapist she didn't seem to happy we were slightly late and mentioned that our message would be a little less because they had clients coming in after, whatever thats fine we got lost and were about 10- 12 mins late, our fault. My boyfriend loved her, so no complaints there. Minus 1 star: She never asked how the pressure was, I had to ask her to use more pressure and it still wasn't as much as I would have liked, and no heat.
