I can only speak to Iza's brazilian waxes, but if the waxes are any reflection on the rest of her services, I have a feeling they are all top-notch as well. I've tried my share of brazilian waxes in NYC and Iza's work ranks easily in the top 5%, if not the best, of them all. The room where the waxes are done is small but clean. Iza uses different kinds of wax to target different areas (at least 1 hard wax and 1 soft wax). She is quick, efficient, genuine, and attentive to details. Great experience! I got the Brazilian wax, facial and massage from a Groupon deal. And all were very relaxing. Elsa was definitely a true Brazilian and made my first wax as relaxing and fast as possible. The only thing I did not like was that the robe and filp flops were not clean. I needed to use the bathroom half way through my massage and was not pleased to realize the robe and slippers were dirty and definitely used. Besides that I would recommend this spa! I have been with Iza since 2006, doing facials mainly as well as pedicures and massage on occasion, Having lived all over ( Boston, Miami Beach, NYC) I have tried all 'fancy' spa's that charge more but don't do the same quality work. Iza treats me like family, and does the same for all customers. She never rushes or watches the clock, and does what YOU need not what she wants to sell you! Being from Brazil, I know her background with skin care is the best. In fact, all she's done is skin care I believe as her only career. Came to Spa Ela Bonita after having purchased a Groupon, it was a conveniently located place exactly 4 blocks away from my office and on the way to my house. Once I entered the place it looked very nice and the lady at the front desk was very nice and chatted with me for a while. I walked in for what I know is a torture (being a girl is tough from time to time!)... but I cannot complain of the service I received. The lady who did the treatment- I forgot her name oops! - was REALLY nice and chatted with me about Brazil (where I've been before). I needed to get my eyebrows waxed for an event, and my only available time was during my lunch hour the day before. To make sure I could get it done at the appropriate time, I made an appointment online, and received an email confirmation. When I arrived, it took the receptionist five minutes just to acknowledge my presence. I gave my name and was told I wasn't on the schedule. I showed the receptionist my email confirmation and he told me to give him five minutes, and that he would figure it out. Ten minutes later, I'm told there's no esthetician even on the premises, and that I'll have to reschedule. No offer of a discount or restitution given. This was a complete waste of my time, and not only did I not have the service I wanted performed, but I ended up having to skip lunch as well. Incredibly disappointed. read more

She knew exactly what she was doing and what I really like was that she used three types of waxes on me, something that would cost over $75 at other places. I switched to Ela Bonita after my previous spa (Noy Spa, midtown) because too expensive. I found a new home at Ela Bonita, and Iza is perfect! She's so gentle, so attentive and caring, she never rushes, she makes you feel comfortable and cared for, and she really knows what she's doing. Also, she doesn't talk excessively, is discreet and accommodating. I tried waxing first, and today I went in for a facial. Both were the least painful of all the waxes and facials I've had (I have oily skin, and cleaning those pores is usually uncomfortable, but Iza's hands were magic...I could've fallen asleep ;) Also, the place is spotless, cozy, the music is soothing (and the bird sounds in the first room are just adorable...so is Iza's comment of "it's like you're in the woods" :)) Will be going here from now on, I'm so happy I found Ela Bonita! read more

I went here for my second waxing ever last month. My first waxing was a horrible experience at a different place where I actually left in tears. Last month I grew the courage after months and months of scaring from my last waxing to try it out again. This place changed my whole view on waxing. It really matters where you go and who does it! The owner does all the waxing and she is so patient and understanding. Makes you feel totally comfortable and try's to make your experience as pain-less as possible. Even on the reservation day, the waxer didn't even show up while I arrived there earlier and then waited for her for 30 min. Don't go here for a Brazilian. My friend and I both went here, and while the experience was pleasant enough, I found large chunks of wax still stuck to some pieces hair in the shower later. In addition, both of us got quite a few ingrown hairs which almost never happens. The waxing process is all right, but the effects were less than satisfactory. read more

From the moment you walk in the door it's very serene and peaceful. They were so nice and accommodating and the facial was great. I could see her just sitting there, doing nothing. I asked the other receptionist what was going on? I bought a groupon for two Brazilian wax sessions. When I went in for the first session, the receptionist took down my info and after she went in and talked to the owner, she ensured me that the second session was marked on her book so I just need to make an appointment for the next time. The owner was doing the wax for me. As soon as she found out that I bought a groupon, she started telling how she didn't make money from this groupon promotion and I should just go directly to her for the same price I paid for the groupon deal. A few days ago, I called to book my second session. The call was received by the owner and she said the deal was meant for me and a guest for two different times. Meanwhile the fine print of this deal didn't mention about this. She made me call groupon to get the refund and called her back. I was hoping she would give me the deal she told me the first time when I was there. I called and she immediately raised the price and said that she couldn't give me the price she first told me because she recently raised the price. I am not sure how she managed to stay in business when she couldn't keep her word to her customers and was constantly money talking. I wouldn't want to go back even if she cut me the original deal.
