Today was my second massage at Tongurai. Emily was fantastic. She told me she learned massage at Wat Po in Bangkok. Anyone who knows anything about Thai Massage, knows this is where it originated and where the best Thai masseuses train. It was obvious from the very start, she was a true and seasoned professional. She rubbed all the right spots, bent me in all the right positions and expertly cracked all my misaligned bones. It felt like the authentic massages I had in Thailand because it was authentic. Friendly staff, and great massage. At first impression the building itself looks like it could be one of those shady massage places. But I gave it a chance because I was tired of going to the Chinese establishments for various reasons. Tongurai Thai is far from a shady place. Way better than going to the Chinese massage establishments. They massaged with their hands not primarily with their elbows if you know what I'm taking about. Didn't have that awkward moment at the end where they demand more tip when you pay either. I approved of the place so much I later brought my wife. read more

I got a really good Thai/Swedish combo massage last night. This is the place to go to get all of your knots out. Emily, the massage therapist, was really attentive. She was super knowledgeable about my different areas of pain and how to work out the tension. Super deep tissue work can be painful, but I left feeling so much better. This place is great! Community style, traditional floor mats with drapes in between clients. So you can hear a little bit of your neighbors massage, but it's a kind of sweet, gentle noise with fountains and ambient music as well. I did notice a private table room or two as I walked past them but as I requested Thai, I was on the floor; which actually feels safer (I'm a bigger person). I got a full 2 hour treatment with a bathroom break and Jane was there when I needed a hand to steady myself. She also didn't overdo the massage with complicated stretches, she just focused on pressing and kneading my sore, congested body. I'll be ready for the pretzel moves next time, or maybe the time after that. read more

I got a therapeutic massage and it was wonderful. I didn't think to ask the massage therapist's name, but she was very skilled (and very strong). My shoulder's are very sore and bruised today, which is what I'd expect from deep tissue work. There was some awkwardness and miscommunication in terms of getting my appointment scheduled, and in getting the right type of massage once I got there. I ended up having to message through the website in order to talk to someone. But it all felt like opening hiccups and I expect things will run smoother in the future. My boyfriend scheduled a last minute couples massage today, which they were gladly able to accommodate. Upon arrival, we waited in the reception area for less than a minute then was welcomed to follow them to the next room over. We ended up opting for the deep tissue massage by Lee and Yoko (both AMAZING). They were generous and provided mini water bottles and also hair ties as I forgot one. Yoko used the perfect amount of pressure at the right spots. I hold a lot of tension in my neck and shoulders, so she focused more so on those areas. Lee started a bit earlier than Yoko did so he finished my boyfriend's massage sooner. The receptionist came to check up on us and saw that he was just laying there waiting for me to be done, so she offered a complimentary Thai massage/stretching for about 10 minutes, to which she then offered to me. She cracked our backs and then also massaged my neck and shoulders for a tad bit longer. I wish we got her name because she was so kind! We felt very welcomed by everyone since we got there. We left feeling relaxed and CERTAIN we found our new go-to spot. They weren't pushy about getting a tip either, which we've found many massage parlors do, especially the spa on Columbus and Rose Dr. But they absolutely deserve a generous tip here!! On top of service, the environment was clean, aromatic, and had tranquil relaxing music. We cannot wait to go back next month. I've gotten many massages over the years throughout the Bay Area, and in my option, Michelle is one of the best, while being far more affordable and easy to get in right away. She's incredibly skilled, applying the right amount of pressure, and if you choose Thai massage, the stretching is the perfect complement to the massage.
