If you enjoy roller coasters and the magic of Disney, it all comes together on Space Mountain. It's not the most exhilarating roller coaster you'll ever ride--which may actually be a good thing for some people--but racing through the darkness makes it a really fun and unique experience. It's a Disney classic, and I highly recommend it. Unless I'm at the park. Then it's a terrible ride, completely overrated, and you definitely shouldn't waste your time on it. No loops or inversions though, so I'd say it's the perfect ride for anyone who's scared of coasters (like me!) Indoor dark rollercoaster ride at Magic Kingdom space mountain!!! The theme is very space retro and nostalgic of all the great films of the era. Lines were short when we went. No fast pass and we got thru in about 20 minutes. The ride doesn't have crazy drops, inversions or looptyloops but it has great curves, light tunnels and space theme. Perfect for the whole family! I will never be able to say enough about this ride. But maybe my riding at three times during my one day at Magic Kingdom will be enough lol. This is one of the last few Disney rides that has an original theme and not just some IP right they come up with to keep pushing sales for merchandise. This is the Disney we need to get back to where they're creating their own characters for the parks or their own theme for the parks. Space Mountain stands alone as its own unique ride and story. There's not really much of a story I should say... But the theme is there. You're getting on a rocket ship and you're flying into space lol. And guess what? Making goofy aren't coming with you. It's just a nice break from the constant bombardment of "look at this Disney character ride", "look at this Disney character ride" lol. I understand you're literally in Disney World and that's the point, but look at rides like Pirates of the Caribbean or haunted mansion. That's what I'm talking about. As a rollercoaster in the dark, Space Mountain has long been a consistent must do for our family. Because of the darkness it seems much faster than it actually is. Since you can't see the track, the turns and drops are unexpected amping up the thrills. During special events there can be overlays that add to the attraction such as different lighting effects and music. I really wish that Disney would bring the Hyperspace Mountain overlay to the East coast that they do at Disneyland during May. read more

What I remember most is how hot it was during that walk in the tunnel leading to the coasters. Wasn't that long of a wait but the line seemed longer than 20 minutes due to the temperature but...other than that, the ride was a thrill. I'm glad there were no upside down loops after eating enchiladas. Located in Tomorrowland in Magic Kingdom this indoor roller coaster with streaming lights, flashes and loud space jams blasting is pretty smooth but speedy. Haven't been to Disney World in decades and this was, by far, the hottest ride back then. My fondest memory of Disney anything and everything. My favorite of the three mountains. It't one of my bucket list items to be able to ride it with the lights on (look this up on YouTube trust me). It's something offered occasionally to cast members but when I was on my CP it never came up, which forever will make me sad. You are not actually going that fast (I think it tops out at like 28mph or something around there) but you'd never know it. It's just iconic and fun and unique. A good wait for this ride is anything under an hour but it is often well over an hour so keep this in mind when planning your day. If you go during a high traffic time it may be MUCH longer. I once went on the 4th of July (I don't recommend doing this under any circumstances) and it was a 5hr wait Some things to keep in mind: -While it isn't fast, it does feel fast. Parents watch a POV on Youtube before allowing smaller children (who are inside the height range) and talk to cast members about it if you have a timid child. Normally POVs are enough but because this one is in the dark it's harder to get an idea -the queue is entirely inside (unless it spills out on a very busy day but even so it's still 95% inside) meaning you're in AC for a good amount of time in line. So if you need a break from the heat, this is a great solution without having to leave the parks. -no liquids in the queue that do not seal (so you can bring your water bottle but not a coffee) o be careful if you have a big bag - theres not a lot of space to store and it will need to be in your lap or between your feet and there is not a lot of space in either scenario. If you can leave your stuff with a party member, highly recommend. -If you have bad knees, hips or back pain, this one may be hard for you to get in and out of. It's quite low down. It's also fast paced too so just keep this in mind. A Tip: Ladies (my guys who get their nails done long), don't put your hands up in the very beginning in the light tubes before take off. On my CP my roommate did this, being from Cali she had only ever ridden the DL version. She had the long claw nails and one got caught on the roof and almost ripped off. It's not as tall as you think. read more

THIS is the reason I go to the Magic Kingdom! I can really give two mouse turds about any of the other rides, but a trip to MK without a ride on SM is like going to EPCOT and not looking at the Golf Ball thing. I have ridden may rides in my years and grew up a close to the Roller Coaster Capital of the World, but nothing at ANY park can compare to Space Mountain. It's a dark and twisty (which would be a good name for a drink) roller coaster that's indoors. You sit in a single-file configuration and you go pretty fast through lots of turns and spirals and fun, and that's the key. It's a fun ride. If you can get a fast pass or a genie or a lighting lane or zippy zoo or Disney dash or grumpy go or Cruella cut or Belle Blast or whatever they call the special line when you got in faster than the rest. It's worth the wait regardless, but this one can back up quick. read more

Space Mountain is located in the Tomorrowland section of Magic Kingdom. The first time I rode it it was completely dark so I didn't know what to expect. It was a little bumpy but I enjoyed this ride so much I came back again at night. The second time was actually not as dark so I was able to see the inner workings of the rollercoaster and it was so tangled and complex I was really impressed thinking about the engineering feat. Once I rode it however, I found out that the ride still is very dark, but is slightly illuminated by the stars all around you. For today's review, we're going to review one of the most underrated coasters of all time. Space Mountain. Now, I have an interesting history with this ride. I first rode it in 2013 and I didn't think it was very good. It was rough and it lacked music which made the ride kinda mediocre. It wasn't terrible, but I expected more with a Disney Ride. However, I rode this in January of 2020 and it was SO MUCH BETTER. So let's get into this. First, we get in the trains, pull down the lapbar, and zoom off into the star tunnel room. Unlike the one in Cali, we drop into this room so the lights are flying past us. AND IT IS AWESOME! We finally head up the lift hill which is loud as crap, but we look to our left (or right) and see another train. Do you know what this means? COASTER RACING!!!! After trying to say whatever insult we can at the other train, we head down the first curved drop. Yeah, this is very similar to DL Space Mountain's layout. But what makes this so much better is 2 things. First, it has even more drops, so therefore you get more speed. But also, because of the restraints being much looser. YOU GET SOME SERIOUS AIRTIME ON THEM. No seriously, this coaster actually has tons of ejector airtime moments. And they are amazing since they are in the freaking dark! At this point, we don't care about the race anymore. We're too busy enjoying this ride for how awesome it is! Before we say "WAIT, THIS IS A DISTRACTION. THEY'RE CHEATING IN THE RACE TO THROW US OFF" we enter a room with red lights before heading to the unload zone. I don't know what I was smoking in 2013 but this is an INCREDIBLE RIDE. Despite being the oldest coaster in Florida, this ride is so good. It used to be one of my favorite coasters built by arrow dynamics (have since ridden a few better ones), but it's still a really good coaster!. But yeah, I TOTALLY recommend riding Space Mountain. It's the best ride in the park and one of the best rides in the entire Walt Disney World Resort. During CoVid, the line is long and social distancing is in place. It looks like a long wait, but it's shorter than it looks. Our waiting time was 5 minutes, but we kept moving until we got to our rocket. It was great to stop and take pictures along the way. Before blastoff, I stuffed my hoodie in the pocket provided, and removed my hat. I am so glad that I did!! The ride seemed darker and faster than before. We had not ridden Space Mountain in over five years. It was a lot of fun, and my only complaint was my old, creaky joints. Getting in was easier than getting off. It was worth it! read more

Space Mountain, my daughter's favorite ride at Magic Kingdom in Disneyworld. We ended up visiting Magic Kingdom, three times, during our trip at DisneyWorld at the end of July. We didn't have to wait to get on the ride at Space Mountain, so my daughter ended up riding it 9 times in a row! There are social distancing markers for 6 feet apart from each family. Hand sanitize stations are at the beginning and exit of the ride. The ride has single seats, now spaced out for individual families. We ended up riding both sides of the ride. Each side is slightly different with it dark, sudden drops, and quick turns. It picks up speed fast! This ride is a little bit darker than the one in Disneyland California, that is Star Wars themed. Space Mountain could use a update. The graphics are from the 1980s for the entry point and throughout the ride. I'd highly recommend this ride if you're looking for a thrill! It's dark, goes really fast, and you never know whats about to happen next! read more

Space Mountain always has and always will be my favorite Disney thrill ride!! This ride is extremely popular it is best to get a lightning lane to minimize wait time and enjoy the ride. There are two different tracks meaning two different boarding areas. Make sure to secure all loose articles before riding. You will most definitely lose them if you don't. Once you are assigned an entry lane, a coaster with 3 seats situated with each one behind the first comes your way. As you board, signs alert you of pending blast off. Once given the thumbs up you are on your way to the chain lift of your first hill. Done entirely in the dark with minimal lighting you ascend the track and see a space station with an astronaut hovering outside it. This scene sits in the middle of the two ascending tracks. It really doesn't matter which side you are on. Both of them are just as intense. A flashing sign alerts you 10 seconds to blast off. You make it to the top and then both tracks split in opposite directions. That's the last you'll see till re entry. The ride then becomes extremely wild with drops, twists, and turns all over the place. High above you is a video of the moon but you are so engrossed you can't even think it is still there. Please note this is an intense coaster and there are warning signs before you board advising you of health and safety concerns. The coolest thing is that you are in the dark and you have no idea where you are going to end up next. Finally you go through a tunnel series of breaking lights that slow you down and let you know you are coming to the end. Somewhere along this ride they do take your picture. It's truly a wild experience. The ride empties into a futuristic walk though display area before emptying into the gift shop. The shop sells prints of the photos taken of your coaster during the ride along with Star Wars merchandise, futuristic cell phone cases, Disney pins, and of course Space Mountain gifts. Space Mountain is Indeed a fun and thrilling ride! I always make a point to experience it at least once each time I visit the Magic Kingdom. Located in Tomorrowland. read more

Definitely recommend the fast pass options if possible to cut the line time. It's so dark in some parts of the line of your eyes aren't we'll watch out ha ha. The ride itself is one seat per row compared to the two seaters in California's Disneyland park. I preferred these though it is hard to get out after the ride is over. It's pretty cozy if carrying a bag etc. The ride is quick , definitely rocky so if you have a bad back or heart issues be cautious. I love the not knowing where it's going and feeling it gives. We were on a mission to complete the Mountain Challenge so we had to do Space Mountain. I am 6'4" and this ride is not meant for people that tall. I literally have to sit with my feet together and my legs spread apart like a butterfly. This is not the ideal position to be jarred around in the dark. A classic! I remember this as my first ever roller coaster, so it holds a certain fondness in my heart. But trip after trip, even as an adult, it continues to be one of my favorites. The darkness combined with some quick drops makes for an exciting, thrilling, and fun ride! Of course, as an old fogey, I don't enjoy my neck being jarred, so once may be enough. There were two drops that were so hard I had a neck and back strain. It was bad enough that I wouldn't have been able to ride any other aggressive coasters.
