First off, I really like Spanky's. Go there in shorts and a T-shirt or take your jacket off and go in casual business attire and your fine. The service can be spotty but more than likely, you'll have a really personable server. Hey, everyone has a bad day at work sometimes, no? Then why the three stars? Well, food presentation is lacking with pretty much every dish. I ordered the pastrami sandwich with fries. The plate came and it contained a nice sized sandwich roll and a few fried on a barren white plate.The pickle was under than sandwich. Perhaps a little lettuce leaf and a small slice of tomato might have enlivened the rather bland looking plate. The portion size might have been a problem, my sandwich was a little thin on pastrami and truly, only one slice of cheese in the sandwich. Was it good? you bet! For a person with a bigger appetite than mine might have been out out. My counterpart thought the salad dishes should have been chilled rather than warm and I agree but that's a small point. We've been a few times and each time a little disappointed of late. The wings are good but I suspect some of the sauce to be hot sauce mixed with mayonnaise rather than a home brewed one. So, some person, Moo K said that the salad plates are warm because they are sanitized. Well, THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE!. But no one wants to put cold salad on a warm plate. They should be at least room temperature. Even better, a cooling system that has the plates chilled. And this Moo K said that she is sorry that there was not e-coli on my plate. This place is a childhood favorite. I come here just about every time I visit my grandparents. I used to always order the ribs and request (demand) that we sit at the barber chair tables. Now that I'm older though I realize that barber chair seats aren't the most comfortable haha. But I still see families sitting there whose kids I'm sure dragged them there. I've gotten the ribs pretty much every time I've come and they're great. I deviate occasionally but always come back to the ribs and salad bar. Michelbobs was closed on Sunday. So we decided to try another local family restaurant. Spanky's is just north on airport and had ribs too this was our first visit. The decorations were fun and antiques adorn the walls of this an Our Gang themed restaurant. This place was not crowded at 8:00 most of the seats were empty. Service was slow in spite of it was not to busy?? Our order was burgers Fries and Ribs. Prices were high considering portions and slow service. As the plates hit the table the first thing picked up was the French fries. Ugh!.. not crisp and soggy as if it were boiled in oil instead of fried. Aww come on! McDonald's and Burger King can do it. Why can't you? Moving right along the burgers and ribs were OK. Nothing spectacular just OK. Next time we will order French fries not the French boils. Better yet skip the fries. read more

I hadn't eaten at Spanky's for several years before I decided to revisit this place the other night. It was bad right from the get-go. There were four other parties seated. It took ten minutes for us to even get a server to come to our table. She brought us menus and took our drink orders. Took another eternity to get our drinks, and we all asked for water - the simplest drink of all time. When she came back to take our orders, I had a couple quick questions about two menu items that I was between. She wouldn't even let me get out my sentences! She interrupted me EVERY TIME I opened my mouth. It was absolutely maddening. She takes down our orders, and yet again, it takes an abnormally long time to get to the table. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich. The chicken was of acceptable quality. The bottom bun of my sandwich, however, was so soggy that I was unable to actually pick up the sandwich to eat it. It was so wet and mushy that it was falling apart. Disgusting. It took another ten minutes for me to flag down the server and ask for another bun. Meanwhile my companions are halfway through their meals. I showed her the bun and how it was literally falling apart on my plate, and she reacted with a really nasty attitude, as if it was my fault and I shouldn't be bothering her. By the time I finally had an edible sandwich, everyone else was done with their food, and what I had of mine was cold. Overall, we were there for nearly two hours, and I feel like I paid too much money for rude service and mediocre (at best) food. The only thing I still like about Spanky's is all the neat little knick knacks all over the walls. Everything else about my visit was garbage. We went at lunchtime, this place was hopping. Seemed to be a fun place to eat. We weren't disappointed... we ordered a round of beer. Our table ordered the hamburger, ribs with fries and slaw, and the pastrami sandwich with slaw. All of our food was very good and tasty. My pastrami sandwich was full of meat and so tender. The ribs were tender, generous portions, and very good. I enjoyed the pub-like atmosphere.... it's buzzing with noise, but everyone's having a great time in this place. My kind of place.... nice atmosphere, reasonably priced food and cold beer. Our waitress was very good, she was friendly and quick. This "restaurant" is a joke! I ordered two grilled fish and got disgusting rubbery meat full of fish bones. (it's even better because if I had no bones I wouldn't know it was a fish) I didn't eat it! I told the waitress that I am not happy and I will not eat it. I got the bill for over $ 60 for this disgusting dish so wanted to talk to the manager and that turned out to be the biggest disappointment. The manager was arrogant and treated me like I wanted to take advantage of restaurant and I just didn't feel fair about having to pay $ 60 for something I didn't eat and wasn't edible. It's not about money, it's about rules Especially since we were regular customers and we always left good tips. This was a really fun place to go for dinner! Reminded me of the old school places I went to as a kid before chain restaurants took over. Salad bar is nice - veggies, spring or romaine mix, homemade dressings, and protien-laden bonuses like an excellent tuna/pasta/peas salad, and things like garbanzos and pickled beets. My husband and I stopped at Spanky's when we were visiting Naples, and we're so glad we did! We loved the 1924 Model T set up as the soup and salad bar, as my husband has a 1923 Model T. He had a great time talking with the owners, who were so nice and gracious, greeting many of their customers by name. Obviously they have a great following here. My husband had the small prime rib, which was actually pretty large and was cooked perfectly. I had the broiled seafood, which was also wonderful. The salad bar was great and their home made soup was the best beef based vegetable soup I've ever had. Our waitress Karen was super attentive and had the prettiest smile. She made us feel so welcome. A friend and I decided to go to Spanky's Speakeasy for dinner. Our meal came and when I begin to eat my meal, I had a piece of long dark hair in my mouth. I notified our server, Renee, and showed the hair to her and she took it to the kitchen. At that point, I wasn't sure if it was the prime rib or the potato. When I took another bite out of the potato, ANOTHER hair was there. I again, showed Renee and she took that piece to the kitchen and said the manager, Teddy Monty, would be over. He finally came over and said there are only bald people working in the kitchen. I said, well obviously, it's not from me and what will you do about it? He said "I'm not playing that game!" I was shocked as that is not who I am. He was rude, disrespectful, and certainly not into customer satisfaction. Our server was so apologetic and when the bill came, she said that she didn't charge us. Obviously, it wasn't her fault and my friend and I gave her a BIG tip. While visiting a friend in the area a few months back, we settled on this local gem (more or less, the friend dines here every Thursday, so it has to be decent, right?). I enjoyed the atmosphere: the children from the movie Spanky's littering the front of coasters and beer cozies, signs plastered all over the wall with friendly phrases and pictures, a dark but inviting lighting. The bartender was really nice and a tad overgenerous on drinks for a lightweight like me. I call it great service and bad judgment on my part. She was very attentive to every customer who walked in her section and made you feel like an instant friend. I was out for fries and salad, while the friend desired steak. This establishment was the perfect mesh for such tastes, and I was surprised by the amount of items in the salad bar as many smaller restaurants (you know, not Sweet Tomatoes, which bases it's entire profit on a salad bar) seem to skimp and only have lettuce, tomatoes, croutons and dressing.
