Two stars for now, especially with the tiny roach the front desk agent wouldn't kill. I was moved to a room on the second floor. This room especially the tub need to be updated.

An experience straight out of The Shining.

WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! An experience straight out of the Shining... As we were getting our stuff from the car a black cat scurried past us. We walked up to the front desk to check-in but no one was around so we waited until finally I called out, "excuse me?" to which still no answer. Finally after another minute we heard some shuffling in the back room and out came a not-so-pleased looking man wearing a grey Nike workout shirt and just stared at at us. After some weirdness during check-in like him mumbling about putting us "far away from everyone else", we got our cards and went up. While we walked down the hall to our room we heard a baby screaming from another room nearby. Then opening the door to our room was like opening the door to literal HELL. Heat smacked us in the face as we walked in to find what I could only describe as a murder scene cover up. The bed was disheveled, all pictures were cricked on the walls, black long hairs in the bathroom, and the heavy air of negative, ghost-like-entities loomed. We were so scared to be in there that we couldn't even look in a mirror so we grabbed our bags and high-tailed it down the stairs (not taking chances with the elevator) out of the hotel. After throwing ourselves and stuff into the car, we had to make two crazed laps around the hotel to find their only exit out which was a long, dark road and not marked...

If the staff here weren't so polite, I would probably give this hotel a 0-star rating. The first night went fine, we slept well, decent shower and bathroom amenities. The staff didn't hesitate to get us extra shampoo/conditioner/soap when asked. The indoor pool pictured online was not indoor, but an outdoor pool. No hot tub, but the pool was oddly warm (although I believe that was due to the heat of the day we swam). The pool had very nice tree coverage around the gate, preventing you from being exposed to the parking lot, and giving a shaded region over the table and chairs. There were not towels set outside like some other hotels, but we were able to ask for some. Although there were perks, the pool was very gross. It was as if they hadn't cleaned it in over a year, and the kind of growth which was at the floor of the pool and on the walls would only be able to be there if they had a bad filtration system. There was a workout center on the base floor near the back exit which lead to the pool, though I did not use it so i cannot give a review. The trouble came the next morning. First we went to breakfast. The food was.. bad to say the least. It was dry, the only good things were the waffles, and I'm pretty sure that's because the batter is the same as the other hotels in the chain (which we later transferred to). The sausage... Bad... The omlets had... Fake cheese in them .. bad overall. We went back to our room, 4 people sharing by the way, so 2 of us had showered and I was chilling out under the covers because I was cold due to the A.C., I felt like my calves were getting bit by a bug, so I flipped up the covers, seeing little black spots. They ended up just being dirt but I felt I should check under the sheets for bed bugs just in case. I was correct, there was in fact a bed bug right where I was laying, but under the sheets. It was dead, presumably from me crushing it when I jumped up. On the 2nd bed, we tore off the sheets to check quickly as well. We found numerous live, what looked like, fleas. There must've been a dog or something previously. We tried getting a different room, but just didn't want to risk it. I'm sure not all of the rooms at this hotel were not like this, but I'd be careful if this is the only thing available. Whenever I visit Austin, this is typically not the hotel I stay at. I stay at a different one down the road about 10 minutes away, it is the same company as this one. However, due to a potential hurricane hitting Houston, people began flocking to Austin and the hotel was booked when I got here so we resorted to the sister location. I will not be coming here again, but I do recommend the hotel I transferred to which I will do a review on later. Always check for bugs. Please.

Yikes!!! Stay away- this location is definitely family owned which doesn't make for a great hotel. The location is right off the hwy with construction going on which makes getting in and out difficult. After a long day of work I made my way to this hotel and as I was pulling up I noticed there was only one other car parked "red flag"? As I went to check in I noticed there wasn't much to this place. I got placed on the first floor next to the only other person there. As I walked into the my room I noticed a moldy/ musty smell. I then decided to look around the room and noticed the place was in bad shape. My room had a double door to the room next to me which I was not a fan of and the only thing locking my door was probably the chair in front of it. I had no service in the hotel. I stayed for two hours and decided I could not do this! So I decided to drive back home 2 hours and drive back and forth for three days because It was that bad! Don't waste your money and this place hasn't updated any photos!! And your free breakfast is free for a reason no one ate it!!

The endlessly cycling sleep-robbing Amana piece of shit heating and cooling unit of doom.

I also loved the in-room Nespresso machine, which was a great touch. The only drawbacks are the location and setting. It's not ideal if you want to be close to a more metropolitan, walkable area, and being right on the creek means there can be quite a few bugs, especially in the evening. Overall, I'd definitely recommend it if you're looking for a relaxing, stylish getaway with great food and very comfortable rooms.

This charming, quaint boutique hotel is located in a residential neighborhood in Round Rock, TX. The Ruby Hotel & Bar is situated along Brushy Creek in historic downtown Round Rock. The hotel has 39 uniquely designed rooms and suites, in the suburbs of Austin, TX. The hotel blends mid-century modern design with natural surroundings, creating a chic vibe. The property is distinctly divided into to major buildings...the hotel and the bar. There is a random small building up front also...not sure what that buildings for. There is also outdoor seating, which would be pleasant in the summer. Last night we had freezing temperatures, so sub-optimal for seating outside. When we entered the bar, we felt transported to another place in time. Retro looking furniture at the entry with finger dialed phones...my nieces and nephews would likely not have any idea what these little machines called telephones were. The bar was a mix of old - building built in the 1960s....new - modern mirrors and bar. There was signage at the front of the bar that stated to seat yourself and place your order from the bar (different set up...for sure). We ordered the hummus plate minus pita bread plus more cucumbers. Alan, our server was very accommodating to make that switch. We had herbal hot tea (chamomile and pomegranate berry). We listened to the 3 person band, who sang music from Johnny Cash to Bob Marley and so many different genres in between. What a lovely evening...date night score!

It had a few lounge chairs and several regular chairs. The staff made sure to keep the towels stocked when they knew we were headed to the pool. There was also a gym but we didn't check it out. The complimentary breakfast had a good variety including a fountain drink machine. I liked making the Texas shaped waffles. My only rec would be more fruit options. Check out was simple by putting the key card at the front desk. I would definitely consider coming back for another stay.

The hotel only cleans every other day to cut costs, so you must request a cleaning if you want more often than that. That is exactly what we did. Unfortunately, this is what we saw when we got back to the hotel, see pic below, when we requested a cleaning. The excuse from the receptionist was the hotel was full so they did not have enough housekeepers to clean our room. Then the manager called the next day after we had to send two texts about what happened. He said it happened because the housekeeper saw a do not disturb sign on the door. Either way it is unacceptable, and the fact that they have conflicting stories about the incident is not good. Certainly, if the housekeeper should have come back to clean the room, knowing we specifically requested a cleaning. Other than that the breakfast was lousy--even by complimentary breakfast standards. The omelette tasted rubbery, the oatmeal was soggy and there were very few selctions. It was so bad that very few people were seen at breakfast the whole stay. Finally, the pool was unusable the whole time we were there. Apparently the pool heater broke which would have cost $5000 to fix, so despite the weather being nice, the pool was closed because a multimillion dollar company did not want to spend five thousand to fix a heater and settle the cost with the warranty company later. Despite the problems we had, the manager who checked us out, did not offer us a penny off the bill, very poor service and we would not recommend anyone to stay here.
