Stopped here in Butte for the night and had dinner at Sparky's. Good beer and cocktail menu and the dinner menu itself looks quite good, but generally fell short in execution with our meals. We ordered the special brisket chili which was served cool and had minimal cubes of brisket in it - but I was pleased I didn't order the brisket sandwich as based on the tenderness I think I would have been even more disappointed. My kids aren't generally wordsmiths with describing what they like and don't like about a meal, but they are great eaters and they left more than half of everything on their plate (and normally love the items they ordered). Super disappointing. It seemed the place that you couldn't screw up. Really basic but solid menu and great ambience. But the hostess was pretty ambivalent to our being there and didn't even look us In the eye. Our waitress had a good personality, though. We had chicken avocado sandwich, pulled pork sandwich, baked beans, Mac & cheese, and deep fried cheese curds. Both sandwiches were REALLY dry with no sauces on them at all. The table had mayo, mustard, and ketchup, so maybe they were expecting us to sauce our own sandwiches? The chicken avocado was overcooked though they were generous with the avocado. There was plenty of meat on the pulled pork sandwich, but again, VERY dry. Some of the beans were warm, some were chilled, like they had just added a can of black beans before serving. While driving through Montana, we stopped at Sparky's for a to-go order so we could continue on our trip. The staff was so helpful and gave us extra condiments, seasonings, utensils and napkins for the trip. We ordered the fried catfish and fries and OH MY GOD even though we are hours away now, I still think about Sparky's Garage and driving back. That's how good their food is! I want to like this place, but Sparky's is a little too tacky for me. I'll compare it to an old TGI Friday's that is centered on a garage theme. Signs and other objects are everywhere. Typically I'll describe the bar I am reviewing, but this place is simply too large and has too much going on. There are great views from the outdoor patio. My criticism though, was the food, which I thought was nothing more than average. Maybe it was a mistake getting the ribs, but the food ordered by my friends didn't have anyone excited. The drinks and beer selection is fine, but Sparky's is more of a restaurant than a bar, so they have to get the food right. The service was on point, but the place was also empty (I blame COVID), so it's hard to accurately judge. read more

Ok 1st let me say the restaurant itself is charming and the staff courteous and fast. I was surprised that not 1 wine from Montana made it to the menu but maybe they know something I don't. When you advertise a whole section of BBQ dishes with "smoked for 12 hours" you should have no trouble delivering a decent piece of meat. This was inedible. No moisture , no smoke ring, no texture I had a tiny bite and the look matched what the taste was. Sorry to bash a place but you should be able to serve good bbq in a pro setting when I can do it at home read more

After 30hrs in a car driving from LA to MT the reviews seemed promising. The parking lot was full so definitely thought we picked the right spot for dinner. Not good. We were seated quickly and our order was taken quickly. From order to arrival - 40 minutes. I ordered the chicken tenders. They resembled the Chick-fil-A three nugget meal. I was driving through Montana from California and needed to stop for some food. We chose Sparky's because of the reviews and it did not disappoint. I can't eat gluten and very rarely see gluten free substitutions, even in California. Sparky's allowed me to have a gluten free bun on my burger and it was phenomenal. First meal in Butte, Montana. It was a Bummer. First the good: 2 sons enjoyed the GINORMOUS milk shakes . ColeSlaw was good, mac and cheese was real good*...beer was cold, and they had 3 plentiful sizes. Warm Corn bread was so _perfect_. Service team was great. Professional, set a reasonable expectation for a Saturday (busy) night. Authentic vintage style garage setting. Waitstaff was prompt and more than pleasant and accommodating. We were able to view the menu and know what we wanted, so one starter (DF pickles,) entree and drinks all at once. Maybe that added to the temp issue. Better half had the tritip with slaw. It arrived cold- which makes you critique immediately. *Remember the yummy Mac and cheese? It Arrived Cold. But the kids filled on milkshake so it wouldn't have Been eaten until tomorrow anyway. I order the pulled pork. Well it came cold and in two hunks. Which made me super critical. Maybe "self pulled pork" is more appropriate. Better half says I was supposed to do it at the table, not them... Portions were good , just gotta remember to eat milkshakes LAST. We visit Sparky's at least once each week, usually during the week. The exceptional crew and food keep us coming, (Carrie, Sally and Amanda are stand-outs, and the food is always very good, worthy of 5 stars. Unfortunately, we have visited on 2 Saturdays in the last month. We found some of the employees seemed to have little interest in customer service and the food leaves much to be desired. Today, my wife ordered the Grilled Chicken Sandwich which was obviously a leftover, smothered with grease soaked onions and mushrooms, (my wife ordered sliced, fresh onions on the side). The sweet potato fries she ordered were also limp and drenched in oil and the chicken sandwich had absolutely no flavor and a foul odor. We waited an exorbitant amount of time before our server even returned to our table to take our order. When my wife pointed out the condition of the fries, our server offered to have a fresh batch cooked which were never brought to her. We had completely finished the meal, (as much as was edible), and I had to ask for the check. Once I received the check, nobody returned to accept payment. We finally walked to the service counter and requested to pay. At that time our server said they had just asked the cook to drop the fresh batch of sweet potato fries and asked if we wanted to take them to go. We did not feel like waiting for the order and left. From now on, whenever we travel to Butte on a weekend, we will eat elsewhere. We really feel bad that other such customer experiences will surely tarnish your reputation, (other people have told us of similar disappointing visits). Hence our 1 star rating for this last ordeal.
