Sparrow is both a restaurant and bar located on a high rise building in Fort Lauderdale. It is an exclusive locked elevator floor. Starting at 5 - on the main floor they have a dedicated elevator host that will guide you to enter the elevator to arrive upstairs. It has plenty of dining seating that also includes the patio. They have an indoor and outdoor bars to your liking. They have floor to ceiling windows making the view admirable. Decided to come for Happy Hour on a Friday. We got there a little early and played Jenga on the guest floor. When it was time we made our way to Sparrow as the first guests of the night. John Luis, the bartender, was super cool. I went with a couple of girlfriends, and the views were amazing, the music was nice (but the volume on the patio wasn't overwhelmingly loud, which is a problem I have with a lot of other rooftops). Had an amazing experience at Sparrow! We got a table on the rooftop at sunset fora bachelorette party and it was the perfect scenery!! Everything was so so beautiful and made for great pictures! Our waiter was absolute perfection and gave us recommendations on literally everything! We took him up on almost all of them and he was so right! We got a bunch of cocktails that were all so great and very different! Our waiter even brought us two rounds of free shots! The food was amazing! I was so surprised how well they did with so many different flavor palates! We got the oysters and pork dumplings for apps which were phenom!! Tried bites of sushi, pork bao buns, Brussels, and the best Mac and cheese ever! Only note is for them to get in on the ranch game to make their fries better! Came here for the re grand opening party and on a regular day recently. Sparrow is an upscale, gorgeous rooftop bar/lounge, with an inside and outside area located in the Dalmar hotel. They have amazing and unique cocktails, mocktails and bites. On the nights I've gone, we've had two female DJ's that were amazing and playing House and EDM sets that kept me moving. Located on the rooftop of the dalmar hotel . It's a restricted floor and security has to let you on the elevator from the ground floor. (This was my only annoyance as a hotel guest ) aside from that, once you step off the elevators you are greeted with music and beautiful decor surrounding you. I was a little confused at first which way to go but to the right is a lounge area with a gorgeous bar . I also think a Dj? If you go to the left once exiting the elevators , you go outside to the most whimsical rooftop bar I have seen! I loved it! I would have done a wedding reception dinner there if I wasn't married already ! I sat down at the bar, but there were plenty tables with lots of room to move around. And some couches too. FIRST , kudos to the bartender John. He was amazing ! Ask for him if you go up there ! Next, they had a really good food menu! Lots of options...and sushi! Really good sushi ! Terrible experience!! First and last time visiting this place. Service was slow and rude, water glasses were dirty (some with lipstick), and we did not get utensils for our appetizers. The second round of drinks tasted like sugar water, and the carpet smelled horrible. One of the chair cushions even had a dried blood stain. Food was okay, but nothing special. The restaurant too is total perfection in décor, seating, and overall atmosphere. It has even won awards as the best rooftop dining in Fort Lauderdale. I started my meal with a dozen that were served perfectly shucked with a tasty Asian Pear Mignonette. For my entrée, I went for their Pan Seared Scallops Sautéed with King Trumpet Mushrooms, Uni cream, and Crispy Shallots. The scallops were perfectly seared and couldn't have paired better than with the uni cream's rich and buttery flavor and creamy texture making it so popular as an ingredient with seafood and other dishes. As Sparrow is so very popular, I advise reservation, and if you want to get a seat at the bars, get there early. Then... twenty minutes later... the last two entrees finally made their grand debut. After everyone else had finished their meal. It was less "family dinner," more "watch your friends eat while you contemplate life." A little more lighting at the tables would have been nice. We had 2 tea lights for a table of ten. Also, arriving at our reservation time only to be told we couldn't be seated because the server wasn't ready? Bold move, Sparrow. We admired our ready-but-apparently-not-ready table from the bar for a solid 15 minutes. And after we sat down, 1st thing we were asked is if we knew about the minimum fee per person for our group. Ummmm, yes Karen, we do! Asked for a manager. Still waiting--might still be waiting. And guess what? After 90 minutes, still no manager. And forget ever trying to call to speak with anyone. I went with my wife and my brother to celebrate his birthday. We ordered a few drinks, which were all perfectly blended concoctions, bursting with layers of flavor and not skimping on the liquor. For a starter, we got the crispy rice with spicy tuna tartare. *Chef's kiss* Absolutely loved it. We then got the NY strip, vegetable fried rice with steak and lobster Mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese felt like it was just missing something but the Rice and the NY strip were showstoppers. All around food would get a 9/10 for me. The ambiance was beautiful and captivating. There was a live dj playing a wide variety of music, that was upbeat and calling for a good time without being deafening. What sealed the deal though was the service we got from AMANDA. There are killer views in every direction and beautiful interior decoration. 4 star food: The food was good but not great. Vietnamese buns were a good start as were Brussels sprouts. Chicken sandwich (oddly called sando on menu) was overcooked and strangely tasteless. Fried rice was just generally OK. Their real problem is the pricing...at this price point the food should be inventive and terrific, not generic and so-so. 3 star service: Dalmar and Sparrow are clearly going for a South Beach vibe, but failed to get the memo that high prices entail high service and enjoyable warmth. The problem starts at the front door: FOUR valets stood at the valet desk watching my friend Fred get out of his car with an obvious handicap, and walk out of his way over to them with a cane...at a first-class hotel, expensive valet parking entails opening the car door and taking the keys from the driver, not standing and modeling. Oh, and you say thank you often, to maximize tips. There is a similar experience on the way up to the restaurant: cold humorless security check and mandatory escort up an elevator. Check-in desk and service in the restaurant were similar: no smiles, no warmth and a general "I'm fabulous that's why I work HERE" vibe. read more
