Food was OK not great, not good, just OK. The reason I'm giving it only one star was the service and the value for your money. As an appetizer we ordered the small Charcuterie Board. The items on the board were fine, it was more board than food. The pieces of cheese were so small you couldn't even bait a mousetrap with them. My first and last time going. Our waitress was beyond rude. I asked for my steak to be well done. Like completely well done and she laughed at me. I don't like raw meat and that's my preference. Upon receiving my food I could hear it mooing it was so raw. The entire centre was blue. I told her to take the plate back and she stated she doesn't cook the food and that she can get it cooked more and I was like it is okay, I don't want to resend it back when it comes back raw (it was a thick steak, it would take a little to cook; which I was cool with if they actually cooked it properly) and at that point I've never seen a waitress so livid. I actually cried. She berated me and belittled me because I did not want them to re cook it. Never have I ever experienced such a unprofessional and unpleasant waitress in my entire experience of dining. I also have an allergy and asked what ingredients were on the pretzels. She responded "I don't know, I'm not in the kitchen". Not to mention their menu has gotten to be extremely expensive. The steak I ordered was 54 dollars. read more

What a Great Dinner in such cool space! I had a little trouble recognizing where the front door was located, because you walk down from the street level and are greeted with beautiful exposed stone foundation walls and very chic decor. We had a party of 4 and chose to try the hot Marcona almonds scented with rosemary as a little starter... OMG! These were so good!! We ordered the scallops which were cooked perfectly and presented beautifully, an order of catch-of-the-day which was mahi-mahi (also plated quite nicely), an order of grilled lobster tail which came on smashed chickpeas with avocado mousse and gazpacho poured over the top!, and an order of fettucini which was house made and cooked perfectly al dente with mushrooms and grilled asparagus with truffle sherry cream sauce! Service was excellent and the owner helped us pick the best bottle of red wine (and I'm not a red wine lover). We are already planning to go back soon, and telling our friends this may be the best kept secret in Canton. read more

This place has some positives and negatives. The first issue is the price. It is very expensive, which is okay if all else was correct. The owner behind the bar was nice and made very good cocktails. The food was pretty good. What lacks is the quality of service. The waitresses that I saw just were just not on par with the price. They weren't enthusiastic and they had limited knowledge of the menu when asked. When you are paying those prices you expect a level of service that this place just didn't provide. In the end, I just left thinking maybe I would come back. Not sure. If the servers were formally trained for that level of restaurant, this place would've been outstanding. The price vs service difference was so great I had to give it three stars when it should've been 4-5 stars easily. read more

My wife and I had a surprise date night here after finding last minute reservations via opentable.com. We are so glad it worked out. The ambiance, food, service and drink selection were absolutely amazing! We started with the bourbon sticks and short rib risotto (which were both fantastic), followed by the Ohio city pasta primavera and spiced rubbed grilled French cut pork chop. The pasta was cooked to a perfect level of al dente that seemed timed down to the second and the pork chop was the juiciest chop I've ever had. The sides were amazing as well. Beautiful space and maybe the best steak I've ever tasted. Plenty of exposed brick and great ambience. Unfortunately, I ordered the quail which was terrible. My husband ordered the delightful steak. We also had the worst chocolate torte I've ever tasted for dessert. Thankfully, we were not charged for the dessert. The waitress was pretty terrible. I feel like they probably do a few things exceptionally well, but a lot of things......not. I gave this place 4 stars because I am really rooting for them. Update: our second time here. Another amazing experience. Excellent dinner experience. We had heard that this establishment had re-opened in the old Peter Scherer's location. Canton needs all of the fine dining establishments itcan support so we wanted to try it out. They have an excellent wine selection and craft beers and cocktails. We normally order wine but my wife got a cocktail and I tried a wine flight. When you walk down the stairs to the entry you enter into a room with wine bottles are arranged on the shelves. They sell wine at reasonable, retail prices and charge seven dollars corkage, Which is very reasonable. We had an excellent charcuterie plate and shared a delicious short rib risotto. Our main entrées consisted of lamb shank for my wife and I enjoyed a prime, New York strip. All of their food is made from scratch and it was very good. We love the H2 in Medina, so when we heard that this one had a full dinner menu instead of just tapas, we had to try it! The restaurant is in a convenient downtown location, in the basement of a historic building. I saw someone else on here had said it had a speakeasy vibe, and that's exactly right. We were seated in the dining room, and it was dimly lit with beautiful wood floors and nice decor. The table we sat at had really comfortable high backed chairs as well, and it made it feel a bit more private. They have a huge whisky/bourbon selection as advertised, and of course a large wine selection so it wasn't hard to choose drinks. We started off with the spread trio which was pretty good, and the waitress even brought us more crackers when she noticed we were out. For dinner, I had the fettuccine and my husband had the duck breast. Both were absolutely phenomenal. For dessert we tried the creme brûlée and the apple tart. Once again, both of them were delicious. Yes, pricewise it's a bit towards the more expensive side, but with this restaurant you definitely get what you pay for in terms of quality and service. I had a really great dinner here. The place is underground, unique, and intimate. The cocktails were AMAZING. My boyfriend had a New York Sour, and it was so good; they use egg whites to make it frothy. I had a drink with gin and honey and lemon (I forget what it's called) and it was absolutely delicious. We got the short rib risotto to start and it was the best thing on the menu. I will continue coming back just for that dish...we didn't leave anything uneaten on that plate. The grilled romaine salad was also really good and perfect to share. I had the catch of the day, which was a nice mahi mahi. TL;DR - food is great, service is really lacking. If you put yourself out as a fancy wine joint, act accordingly. Place has potential. Positives: The food was excellent. A sign of a good cook is a perfectly cooked scallop, which is what I got. The charcuterie board included some high quality cheese, which is also a great sign. Negatives: If you're going to do this wine shop/restaurant hybrid, you ought to have list for the people sitting down. It's inconvenient for me, and intrusive for others, to walk around examining wine. And there's nothing special about selling a bottle at retail plus corkage. I've worked in a few restaurants whose owners refused to sell any bottle more than $10 above retail. The most negative thing was the service I received - and I only complain because of the price. The price sets the expectation. So I expect the server to have a decent working knowledge of wine. I also expect the server to understand the basic mechanics of proper service (e.g. removing all the plates prior to service of the next course, new silverware after a course has been served, not removing plates until all diners are finished, etc). That was all missing. Pinot Noir? She had no idea what that was, let alone the differences between the three glasses on the list. Picking up the glass when pouring a bottle of wine, not pouring when there are empty glasses, letting me at least smell the wine before pouring - just all the basics of wine service weren't performed. I don't completely blame the server here, the owners/management are equally if not more culpable, as the owners are responsible for training the staff. read more

My wife and I visited H2 for my birthday dinner. We did not really know what to expect, but we had heard that it was good. We both really loved the ambience, especially walking down stairs and having the old stones and bricks exposed. The bar was very lively and had a cool decor with wonderful stone accents. We ordered the short ribs with risotto, and an olive plate, and a charcuterie plate with cheese. We also split a bottle of a very nice Sauvignon Blanc. We were headed to another restaurant downtown, but people were lined up out the door due to a concert at the Palace. We remembered someone mentioning a restaurant that had taken over the old Peter Shears spot, so we decided to give it a shot. We felt intimidated because we were not dressed for fine dining and didn't have reservations, but we were greeted with a friendly smile and led to the bar upon request. Our bartender/server was amazing. She looked way too young to know her way around the bar, but she recommended the special "pink lady" that she executed with perfection. She suggested a feature for the evening: mushroom bisque with wine topped with a puffed pastry. It was outstanding. We had a few other small plates at her suggestion which were also outstanding. I noticed her popping a fresh bottle of red wine, so I enjoyed a glass of that as well. My husband and I split a heavenly chocolate torte followed by coffee served in the most adorable French press. We were enjoying our meal so much that I forgot to take pictures! We WILL be back and I will add another post with pics. In a world of struggling restaurants, this one doesn't miss a beat. First of all, they mislead you into thinking that their 'cork charge' is for bringing in your own bottle of wine, not so. The cork charge is just another charge on top of what the menu bottle price is. The server we had lacked experience in working in a restaurant let alone an upscale one. She forgot to put our order in and we waiting about 40 min. for our meal. The bottle of white wine we ordered was too cold. I expect that bottle to be kept at about 50 degrees at all times especially at that price. The food was good not great. Let's talk about the bread. Their are upscale restaurants out there that go out of their way to serve the best bread they can find. Some people will actually go to a restaurant just based on the bread. First time visitors over the holidays. And, we went with having heard and known about this establishment for some time. Are expectations were fairly high. And, honestly, we were not disappointed at all. In fact we had one of our top 10 dinning experiences in NEO. We came early for our reservation in order to check out their bar and cocktails. Incredible list of Bourbons, Scotches and Whiskeys. The Bartender was very helpful and attentive. We were sat right at the time of our reservation. But just prior to seating, I looked over their wine selections resting on shelves in the lobby. Having been a Sommelier in a 3-star French restaurant, and having owned and operated a retail wine shop in Phoenix, AZ, I was curious about what wines they offered. It was a very nice selection and with reasonable retail pricing. A slight corkage fee was attached to the price of the bottle. Which is not unusual. We ordered an appetizer first. Then a shared salad. And finally the entrees. I had the duck and my wife had the quail. Both were excellent dishes. Prepared well and with a great balance of flavors. Our Foxen Pinot Noir went very well with both. The service was attentive without any pressure to finish. So we had time between courses. Which we like. Upscale Dinning, but not stuffy. Relaxed, wine cave atmosphere that felt more like a bistro in France or Italy. We will return, many times. If you're a wine drinker, bourbon or Scotch fan and like well prepared food in a great atmosphere, H2 wine bar is worth a try. read more
