This bar is the only reason to set foot in the Mo for a weekend drink. I went in a few months back for the first time. Cool crowd, great drinks and good music. I felt like an ass I was definitely over dressed (what can I say I'm a girl and 5 days a week I work with all men), my bestie and I came from a 'girly dinner' and could've toned it down and still been totally comfortable. One of the best bars in Modesto. I'm always able to find parking very close, the bartenders are quick with drinks. My friends and I usually go early compared to others so we usually have no problem finding spots to sit at and enjoy our drinks. It can be shoulder to shoulder once it starts getting into the later hours of the night but even then, the bartenders are still quick with the drinks. Only problem I could come up with is the bathroom. One bathroom for males and one for females, and they are both located in one of the busiest sections of the bar. Decent drinks, music is hit or miss (really depends on if there's live music). Too many bros here for my own liking, and cattie ass women! I've gotten in a handful of altercations here due to sloppy drunk people getting aggressive. If you are gonna make it out to Speakeasy, come early cause any time after 11PM it's nearly impossible to get in, or a drink for that matter! So coming back home to modesto on Christmas leave, I take the risk of going downtown. Apparently it's still the typical modesto I remember. I was walking through their parking lot and came across a guy beating up on this kid obviously not fighting back. So I decide to pull him off, wondering where the bouncers were, when I get blindsided by his two meathead tapout buddies who apparently just finished watching ufc ultimate knockouts. By the time I get the chance to defend myself, the bouncers show up just in time to "break" it up. So here I am, bleeding out of my head, doing the bouncer's job, they decided to kick ME out. Oh, well, they did give me a rag to clean the blood off me. If you're not from Modesto, avoid this place, or just downtown altogether. I recommend p. Wexfords, or Bj's brewery. read more

This was the first club-lounge that I hit in over 10 years. Now that I am newly single I was a little hesitant about walking into this place. To my surprise I was glad I came. Professional staff, well priced drinks. Ample parking across the street if you arrive early enough. It is a pretty small venue but hey no cover charge, can't beat that. This is a small place but the decor is similar to the Pussy Cat Doll lounge in Casars Palace in Vegas, though not as nice it still has that Speakeasy Feel. Drinks are stiff and at a reasonable price go to Aqua pay more get less. This is not a hophop club it's more of an alternative rock style but they do have some dance music on the weekends when live Banda go on break. Over all the problem is the crampness and the mens room should have stall dividers cause you never know if someone will push there way into the restroom with you so be aware and try and lock the door that happened too my friends a couple times. read more

Speakeasy WAS my favorite bar in Modesto, always recommended it to friends and always had a blast. Cool live band and friendly bartenders, so I'm very very sad to write this review but I have to do it!! It started in the long line outside (which there always is a line).. The security guard was not friendly, we tried joking with him but seemed like he hated his job and did not want to make small talk. He also mentioned capacity was 80 people and he had over 130 people so thats why there was a line. Nice! He takes my friends ID makes a rude comment that shes old (28 yrs old is not old when you just let 40+ woman in). Hint to any guy don't tell any woman she's old. So basically this security guard did not like us from the beginning! We had fun dancing to the band! The guitarist let my friend on stage to dance, of course the grumpy security guard grabbed her arm and made her get off. Got it on tape! A simple get down would of been fine. So basically we had a good time and were happy...until the end of the night. 2 of my friends went to the bathroom while 2 of us stayed at the bar waiting for them. A couple of minutes went by our friends were taking long in the bathroom. I'm GUESSING this is why a random girl (didn't see her the whole night) ATTACKED my friend when she walked out. 7 punches to the head (bad girls club status). We are not fighters!! My friend and I ran to that area trying to break it up...other people broke it up but were blocking me from my 2 friends, they happened to place the crazy girl next to me which she thought it was necessary to sucker punch me and pull my extension Lol. SO my friend (who was at the bar with me when the fight broke out) PUSHES her away to help me. Security came screaming to get out. We are all small girls can't even hurt a fly if we tried. Now I completely understand the bar is NOT responsible for this crazy girl attacking us BUT they are responsible on how the people they hire as security behave and how they control situation likes this. Its a bar im sure it will happen again. We go outside, my friend who was beat up wants to press charges. Security is screaming in our face telling us to shut the f*ck up and to go the f*ck home. Then they decide to put my friend in handcuffs for throwing the first punch...uuuhhh hello this is the friend who was sitting with me at the bar when the fight broke out and pushed her away from punching me more.... WTF?? Oh yeah this is the same security guard from the beginning. Pretty much talked shit to us the whole time. My small group of friends were not happy of course we're yelling back at this point. Quite in shock and upset that we were coming out as the bad people, when we got attacked. The girl who attacked us was sitting laughing at the whole situation. Then when the cops came the security guard talked to him first and said we're starting problems the whole night. So the cop was not cool. While we're waiting for my friend to make a police report the same security guy is yelling at us for standing in the only area that covered us from the rain because supposedly that was the only spot to spray down mats.. We said noo... then he told his fellow employee to spray us with the hose. WOOOW I have never been so mistreated or disrespected in my life. How dare a HUGE grown man scream such profanity in any woman's face like that. Then to stay outside and antagonize us to get a rise out of us even more. I was sober I heard and seen everything. Way to let me down Speakeasy. SO THIS IS WHY I WILL NEVER STEP FOOT IN THIS BAR AGAIN ALONG WITH MANY OF MY FRIENDS. I suggest going to the boardroom friendly staff :) read more

The drinks are fair, the bar is too large, and the band sucks. Like really really sucks. If you like cover band that plays reggae to pop to rock at a below par level then this is great! We attended this establishment tonight for our friends bachelorette (whom most attended from out of state)... to which we were greeted with hostile attitude front the female attended on 6/15/19 at 2100. We got there 2030 and proceeded to put $20 in juke box. When our song was coming on.... we positioned a camera one on end of bar,which was very apparent with approx 10 guests in the entire venue. Our song came on for approx 2 seconds to which the bartender made eye contact with me & proceeded to change Chanel on the juke box. I politely asked her why she did so. To which her response was "i wish you would have told me and I could have warned you that the juke box changes and that was it." She did not confirm a time. She was catering to her 2 tattooed friends at the bar, which were male. She proceeded to watch to the me cash register and call us "bitches" and threw all 1s down on the counter in a $20 denomination while huffing Unser her breath. We proceeded by leaving the money there & telling her that she needed to work on her customer service. To which she called us "bitches" yet again. The service is horrible. The bar tender was more interested in watching television than he was in serving me. I put a $1 tip on my tab, and my bank statement shows a charge for $3 over the amount that I signed for. So they have shitty service and steal from you. As far as a Modesto bar goes, it was pleasant and free but definitely not worth fraud or waiting around for the bar tender to watch his favorite baseball team. read more

Ok, so review is a little slanted as I was told it was a "dive bar". Just a regular bar with standard atmosphere and pricey drinks relative to location. $7 for Jack and Coke with no kick and no corresponding talent was not worth it. Decent bar in Modesto. Though one night I paid with a $20 for a $12.00 total. A women bartender never gave my change back...trying to keep the rest as a big tip for her. She saw me waiting and immediately went to the other side of the bar and started serving 1, 2 and then she was going to serve a 3rd. I spoke up and said hello, I want my change back. She then got a really pissy attitude and got the $8 out of the cash registered and threw the money at me. Literally threw it down at me. Needless to say she was the worst bartender I have EVER delt with. Hence, my 1 star for the worst service I have ever experienced and 3 1/2 or 4 stars for the establishment itself. A really nice lounge with live music and friendly people. The Bartenders are especially cool here, generelly holding conversations with the everyone at the bar. The leather seats and tables are nice, but are hard to get on the weekends. It can also get very crowded because it is sort of small, but it's stil fun when packed. There is a guy who plays on friday nights that you must see. He does acoustic versions of classic 90's and recent rock hits. He almost always knows your request's and kindly accepts tips. The guy even offers a little comical relief after a few drinks (To get on his good side buy him a shot of crown royal and a coke chasers. He'll now play any song you please.) This bar is also within walking distance of 3 other very popular downtown bar's so if you dont like it (which your crazy if you don't) your close to other options. Oh and no dress code here, just don't come looking like a bum. read more

This bar is a sad establishment, I DO NOT RECOMMEND any one go their that has any class. It is a dive bar that only cares for the dollar it makes from you. I brought a few friends from out of town to this bar and we were treated HORRIBLE. They were over capacity and we were told to stay at the end of the bar if we wanted to go in. We were allowed in after dealing with a RUDE UNPROFESSIONAL security guard, who insulted my friends about her age when she showed him her the id.(REAL CLASSY). We were only there for a lil over an hour and we had a horrible experience. My friend was attacked coming from the restroom and nothing was done about it but us being accused of starting trouble. Neither one of use use physical force but we were still treated as if we had attacked the other girl. The cop and security guard were both rude to us and tried to force us to leave without a police report. The security guard even threaten to spray us with a water hose, just so they did not have to fill out paper work.(GET ANOTHER JOB IF YOU DON"T WANT TO DO YOURS). Bottom line this place is drama and needs no support from anyone that want to have a good time. I will never recommend this bar to anyone because it is a dangerous establishment. read more
