    Terribly spotty service. Our internet has now been out for the past 24 hours. They called once and said it was fixed but that was a lie.

    Starry's network briefly went down on May 4; since then, speeds have been extremely slow, varying…read morewith weather, peak times, etc. They have not resolved the issue after TEN DAYS. And by "extremely slow", I mean speeds ranging from 12x slower than normal at best, to wait-two-minutes-for-web-page-to-load performance at worst. The speed is not the only issue. Using Starry for video streaming now results in interrupted streams, or streams downgrading to potato resolution. Not useful if you've cut the cord. They apparently had a fire in different building, and that was enough to seriously degrade the network. That's just totally unacceptable. I went with Starry because 1) I seriously hate Verizon 2) I seriously hate optimum and spectrum even more, and 3) Starry had much better prices. And I loved my Starry service. I got my friend to switch to them. It was fast, it was great, it was low-latency, it was consistent. Swoon. I would have never considered switching until a week of this poor performance and service. So, I shopped around, and guess what? Verizon offers the same performance grade for about $5/month more, showed up in one day to install, and guarantees the price for three years. I've switched as of a few minutes ago. I even gave Starry a chance to keep my business, because I'm a fan of the little guy. I asked that they bump my performance grade up one speed grade, for the price that I'm currently paying (and lock it in). Then I'd stay. Something that doesn't cost them real dollars, has value to me, and is fair compensation for the problems they've caused, and the lack of reliability that I'd have to factor in, too. They said no. OK, it took one day to switch to Fios. Bye Bye. My friend? She's switching, too. I'm super disappointed that Starry couldn't provide what they claimed, and even more, I hate that they pushed me back to Verizon.

Unfortunately, the area where I moved does not yet have Vios but you can request it. I guess once they get enough people interested they will install the data lines or whatever they need to get Vios going. After it's less-than-graceful swan dive out of my pocket onto the tile floor, my iPhone had only two functions on its screen: pitch black, and flashing green as if it just ate too much ecstasy at a 90s rave in Ibiza. I biked over and then there I was... a hot mess in the middle of august dreading yet another customer service interaction and the corporate bureaucratic BS that comes with it. Cut to Teddy: Nothing I love more than a person who takes me as I am and offers me solutions. I'm probably the worst apple product owner and have done zero work to sync my devices and respect the cloud. He listened unphased and then gave me two options, and also offered his honest opinion about what would save me money and provide more flexibility. Then, this absolute EARTH ANGEL of a human sat with me patiently for 2 hours as I pulled out my trusty iPad and rounded up the rest of the folks on my family plan to access my Verizon account info to move forward with an insurance claim. Verizon outsources their insurance, and so it's nothing on NYCOM or Verizon personally, but that was a nightmare (yeah @Asurion, we're lookin at you). I ended up coming back later in the afternoon, and Teddy rang them up and told them that their processing time for my claim was unacceptable as I need this line to run my business. We ended up moving forward with an upgrade instead, and being probably Jesus Christ reincarnate, Teddy rang up his homie to lend us a new iPhone screen so that I could proceed with backing up my phone and not have to lose any of my business documents or precious photos of my cat. He set me up with a new phone, case, and screen protector, as well as retrieved all of my information. I can't stress this enough: albeit long, Teddy made this the most positive and satisfying customer service interaction of MY LIFE. Working a job where people come to you frustrated about problems that they need quick solutions to is Gods work. Does Teddy have RBF in the mornings? Maybe so. But I would urge you to stick around and see how good Teddy treats his clients, looking out for their best interests even on their worst of days. Especially if it's after a Red Bull :)

When I called to sign up (THREE times now, but still no call back) it was as if I was connected to some 'answering' service in a backroom in the Midwest somewhere. (I don't know many local companies with answering services besides doctor's offices or plumbers or something.) Also, the woman seemed to have an accent (NOT New York). She also seemed to not know NYC neighborhoods...when I gave her my Astoria address she was like 'ok, so that's in Astoria, New York, 11105'? The way she said it, it was as if she'd never heard of Astoria. I then said to her 'is this an NYC-based company?' She seemed to hesitate. I told her I was under the impression it was. She then said 'oh yes'. I said 'and where are you located?' She said 'I'm at the head office....Broad Street...I mean...Broadway'. Hmmm.... Another time I called and was told that 'Josh' (apparently the only person at this 'office' who can set up a new account)...that Josh was 'on vacation' apparently abroad...that he was 'asleep right now'...but that they'd send him another message to call me. Also interesting is that of the FEW reviews they have on Yelp, one reviewer has only written ONE (stellar) review ...naturally for Bway.net....and the other reviewer has only written TWO reviews. Hmmm

The barren cold alternative I tried was the big corp internet provider in NYC. Bway offers amazing reliable and fast service. An internet you can rely on. While all these perks come at a higher tag, there is an astounding amount of frustration you are saving yourself from. Trust me. Every little interaction with the big corp internet providers in town will leave you feeling frustrated, empty and violated. Bway is worth every penny. In addition, they offer a static IP as a standard. You always have a dedicated reliable line. That opens up a multitude of potential.

The low level customer service and the way the company bilks customers is astounding. They claim to be giving you a five (5) year price lock. In my case, two months later they change the name of your promotion to Promotion for Life. They say that this means that only the taxes can go up if they do, but not the price for the service in my case, $40.00 with $5.66 in taxes for a total of $45.66. Do not be fooled. All their promotions, regardless of names, can be renamed and repriced at any time. They actively promote Autobilling, which means they take the money directly out of your bank account each month. It is not worth getting a $5 reduction to have these crooks get access to your bank account. Once you provide them with your bank account number, they can help themselves to any amount. Prices with Astound change at the drop of a hat. They do this by claiming that your plan's name was changed. What this means is that they hiked the price. Am actively going to see if I can find a better deal elsewhere. These people are nasty and only interested in bilking customers. These are seasoned scam artists.
