Before meeting with Dr. Newberry, I had seen several other providers (an NP, an MD, and a PA) through other organizations and they all either dismissed the seriousness of my symptoms as anxiety and allergies, or misdiagnosed me with an ear infection or Eustachian Tube Dysfunction. Dr. Newberry's approach was completely different. He was the first doctor who actually took me seriously. He was immediately concerned because it turns out persistent one-sided pulsatile tinnitus can be a symptom of a very serious and potentially dangerous condition called a dural AV fistula; however, while he mentioned the possibility of a dAVF (among other conditions), he also didn't jump to conclusions. He was very thorough. Over the course of a few months, we did some blood work, scans, and tests to figure out what might be causing it. When one of those scans finally came back abnormal, Dr. Newberry provided an immediate referral for me to see a neuroradiologist who eventually diagnosed me with a dural AV fistula. Dural AV fistulas are rare and complex, and I say this to point out that Dr. Newberry didn't let this deter him; he didn't discount a dAVF as a possible diagnosis, despite the fact it was unlikely because I didn't have any headaches at the time (a hallmark symptom of dural AV fistulas). I'm so grateful to him because other providers obviously dismissed the possibility that I had such a rare condition, probably because it was simply unlikely. Had I not seen Dr. Newberry, it's very possible this condition might have gone undiagnosed and led to a stroke or brain hemorrhage in a decade or so; alternately, it could have eventually led to a misdiagnosis of dementia or other neurological conditions due to the impact it can have on cognitive functioning. In general, Dr. Newberry is very easy to talk to and has a great bedside manner. He's a good listener, and I would describe him as highly competent and on the cutting edge of ENT medicine. As someone who has been repeatedly let down by medical providers over the years, I find myself trusting his opinion. He can see the big picture as well as the details, and never loses sight of the fact that his patient is a human being. My experience with Rhode Island ENT as an organization has also been great. I have found it very easy to schedule appointments with them. The receptionists and medical assistants are pleasant and competent. They send appointment reminder text messages which is helpful. I have never had any issue with them forgetting to order a prescription or send in a referral, or any hiccups with insurance. Though I do remember experiencing some initial frustration trying to schedule an appointment as a new patient due to the call routing, since I've become a patient, I've found it very easy to work with them.

Three times the rude, incompetent person at the desk denied that we even had the appointments. When I showed her the appointment card, she denied that it was real. Twice so far this year, the exact same thing happened to my 92 year old father. The first time it happened he asked the woman to give him a SIGNED appointment card. She signed the card "Lynn." Today he went to his appointment. She told him he didn't have an appointment at this time and that they have never had an employee named "Lynn." This has happened to Every Single Person I know who has dealt with this office. It is not an isolated incident. Read the other reviews here about the rude unresponsive staff. Dr DellaTorre is ok but the staff here deserves to be fired. Incompetent, dishonest, gaslighting, and rude. An if this behavior isn't intentional it only proves that they are also idiots. Be aware that I will be calling Every Day to verify the appointment that I wish my father hadn't made. And recording the calls for quality control purposes

There was no urgency at all despite the real possibility that she has permanent 100% hearing loss. The condition requires quick treatment which is the greatest indicator for positive outcome. Wasted weeks instead of starting on treatment immediately. Then the front desk staff was not scheduling appointments according to the strict protocol that the Dr laid out, and they made appts that we already knew would be impossible to keep due to availability of the Rx from the compounding pharmacy. They said make the appt anyway, then we had to cancel and they have not called back to reschedule. Meanwhile her condition becomes more severe. Horrible awful quality of care, completely useless. One year later my vocal cord has re-opened somewhat and everything is much better. I followed his advice and got off of one of my powdered inhaler and I have pretty much cleared up. I only have a need to clear my throat occasionally and that is primarily caused by one of my inhalers. I'm doing much better. I recommend RIENT for any ear nose and throat issues.

No apology from the doctor or anything he was just like I can't believe it, while sending me out to an audiologist so I could get hearing aids. Fast forward to recent, I call this office and they never answer, they prompt you to leave a message and they don't return calls for awhile, extremely frustrating. My hearing has gotten worse and the audiologist told me to come back here to see if the ENT doctor can see what's going on. Which prompted this review because I am fed up. They do have other offices (Providence, I called and they said you should stick to Cumberland which is this location since that's where you started) mind you Cumberland is really far from me so Providence is much closer the lady was extremely rude at Providence as well. I'm not really sure why they have all these locations but frown upon switching places especially when this location is impossible to get ahold of. I did call the Johnston location and they said they would see me in a month. So we shall see. Hopefully they at least listen, but they didn't give me an issue seeing them there. This location is in a building with other offices and the parking lot is a decent size. It's kind of old and outdated looking on the inside.

On one hand, I want to give a massive shoutout to Kristen White. She was incredibly professional, genuinely listened to my requests, and took excellent care of me. In a moment when I was in extreme pain and feeling completely overwhelmed, Kristen made me feel like an actual human being. Her empathy and customer service were a solid 5/5 stars.Unfortunately, the medical care from the actual providers was deeply disappointing. I came in with an acute sports injury after hearing a physical "pop" in my foot, experiencing swelling on the top of my foot, and dealing with severe nerve pain. They took X-rays but didn't bother to sit down, look at them with me, or properly explain a clear diagnosis. Instead, they completely dismissed a severe structural injury as basic plantar fasciitis, handed me some topical gel, and sent me on my way.To make matters worse, they told me it was "normal to work under these conditions"--completely ignoring the fact that my daily job requires heavy pulling, pushing, and lifting of heavy objects. Because they refused to give me an immobilization boot or take the soft-tissue damage seriously, I have spent days favoring my left leg. I have now developed agonizing sciatica from straining my back just trying to hobble around.Kristen White deserves a promotion for her outstanding humanity and professionalism, but the medical providers seriously need to re-evaluate how they dismiss patients with acute traumatic injuries.
