I brought my 2012 Dodge Challenger SRT-8 into their shop. When the car was seen the tech opened the hood, saw my after-market intake filter and the E.O., then continued using visual inspection. He saw a "catch-can" (aka crankcase gas filter) attached to my PCV line (legal in Calif according to B.A.R.) and instantly told me that it was an illegal modification and he discontinued the checks, asking me to leave, he was done. Nothing he could do withOUT an "executive order" sticker for that "Catch-can". I went home and did some research. It's legal. Then I called B.A.R. and personally spoke to a agent. He affirmed that a "Catch-can" is LEGAL. I called the station and told them I had just got a "green light" from the authority in charge of SMOG checks in California. He said "take it to another Smog station, he would NOT pass the vehicle withOUT a "E.O. sticker. They are 100% WRONG and don't care. Even with documentation they denied my second inspection. A "racket" in my opinion. It doesn't matter why they were afraid to allow that part. They were closed minded and didn't care one wit what I could prove. That's irresponsible, unfair, and should actually be illegal for them to "make stuff up" when unsure. All they would have had to do is call the B.A.R. like I did. Nuff said. My wife and I have been taking our cars to Speedway Smog for many years and we refer our friends there too. The Owner and staff are friendly, professional and helpful. The only time we ever had to wait for a few minutes was one time we went on a Saturday morning and they were really busy and we didn't have an appt. In the past, we have used the Mchenry shop and Oakdale Rd. shop which they've moved from. Today just took our older car to the new shop on Orangeburg Ave., and the car was in and out in minutes. This shop is bigger and very nice. The negative reviews seem odd. Our experiences have been consistently pleasant over the years and prices have been very reasonable. We use coupons too. read more

Today I took my truck for smog and when I got it back the drive outside door handle was broken ( unable to open the door from the outside ) So i went back inside to ask the employee he new what he done because he gave me attitude as i was asking him. I spoke to the owner and he told me things happen and their is nothing i can do for you. I was a technician for Toyota/Lexus dealers for 20 years and anytime something broke we would replace i understand accidents happen but let do things wright for the customer. This place is great! A++ I have been coming here for years and have never had any issues getting my car smogged. The staff have always made me feel right at home and kept me in the loop if there were any issues. I'm usually in and out within 30 minutes. The few negative reviews being left on here all seem to stem from people complaining about having to pay after they have failed. Keep in mind it's not the smog station's responsibility if your car fails to pass the test nor should they have to keep running your car through "for free" until you do pass. If you even have the smallest suspicion that your car may not pass (and most people do), then invest the money in taking it to a mechanic who can run a diagnostic test and work on the issue! read more

I needed a smog check for my car and literally called so many places and they quoted me $65+ dollars for a smog check on a 2014 car. I even called one place another place in Modesto of Kansas and was told that the smog check is $68 and I will still have to pay for the certificate and the electronic filing to the DMV. I still checked around and came across Speedway so I called and spoke to Sergio who quoted me a lower rate so of course I went with him. Shoot times are rough!! LOL... anyways upon arrival the place was SUPER clean, smelled good ( most smog places look and smell like an auto garage in an industrial area) and was greeted once my fiancé and myself walked in. My service was done quickly, we were there less than 20 minutes and he also told me that smog places automatically submit your smog check electronically to the DMV no charge. So the other place was trying to get over on people, which is a shame. I recommend anyone who is looking for a smog check business to give Speedway on Orangeburg a call. Well worth it.
