Made an appointment & showed up a bit early but the owner/mechanic took me in right away. I went inside the little shop waiting area while he completed my SMOG check. The waiting area reminded me of when my dad had a shop, it had cute little touches of "family-owned" --- tons of pictures of pugs, lol. I am a fan of pugs :) It seems to be family run since there was a young man who helped me with my forms and cashed me out. He was quiet but polite - straight business. All in all, I was there for maybe 10 mins. tops. The only downside is that when I entered the address into my GPS, it brought me to the next street down for some reason. So just something to point out when following your GPS, turn sooner than you think you need to. read more

Walked into this business because it was close to where I live. I was just going to make an appointment. Since I had my DMV renewal with me, they said could do it right now and would take about 10 minutes. Fabulous....let's do that. In 10 minutes they were done, paid and got my paperwork and off I went. Mchenry Smog Center is THE place to go to get your car/truck/SUV or whatever to get a smog check!! Khanh and his team run a very efficient shop! They are always friendly, and get you in and on your way as quickly as possible. There is a quaint, cute, and clean waiting room with some chairs inside. If you are a dog lover (especially pugs) or an animal person, you will adore the waiting room. (Their website says it is a pet friendly business). However, you won't spend too much time in the waiting room as I said they don't have you wait very long if you have an appointment. I would strongly encourage an appointment, but it is not always required. Depending on their schedule and if they have availability they ususally take walk-ins. It is easy to find on McHenry (tucked in the middle of two other shops in the same parking lot). It is right next door to a Mister Car Wash (formerly known as Prime Shine), and across from the Barnes and Noble bookstore/Promenade Shopping Center. If you need your smog check, I would highly recommend McHenry Smog!! read more

Outside of my normal foodie review but ahh I had to give a good review for this place. Their interior is decked out in PUGS. How freaking cute! I've never seen so many pug paintings, antiques and anything pug related. Like who doesn't love pugs lol The pricing was good. It came out to $45 for my 2018 Civic. Also, they're pretty fast. I came late in the evening after getting an oil change (after work really) and I was in and out in a span of less than 20 minutes with multiple cars in front of me. read more

Asian-ish looking tech pulled my car in. Proceeded to open the hood, looked around and then backed my car out and told me to go someplace else. He indicated that I had "too many" aftermarket parts. I tried to explain the car (1996 Saleen S-351) but he would have nothing to do with me and walked away and hid in the back. The shop seems to have no knowledge of "specialty" cars. This shop can not be recommended for any "specialty" cars. read more

Took my 2016 Ram for a required smog for dmv vehicle transfer. They take Apple Pay , and were in and out in about 18 minutes. So easy , 45 bucks even , super nice staff. It was so easy to make an appointment online. I was quickly confirmed and I had an almost immediate appointment and estimate. Not only that, when I arrived everyone was kind, helpful, and efficient. Everything was explained and easy, even on a rainy day. The business is just a little back off of McHenry Avenue but there's plenty of parking and the sign for "Office" was clearly marked. They electronically transmit the information to the DMV so I could go home and register my vehicle online right away. Their reasonable fees are clearly marked so you know exactly how much it will be ahead of time. read more

Best price I could find locally and had a large amount of available times. Not a big waiting area but I was in and out.

My car did not pass smog to start and the young man told me to drive 100 miles and come back. Which I did do, only for me to comeback and he decided to close the shop 2 hours early. To add insult to injury, he told me to come back tomorrow morning and forgot he told me to come back on a Sunday. I do understand as a local business that you might need to close early when it's slow. But when you tell your customer to come back the same day and decide to close early is very poor customer service. That was the first time I went to McHenry Smog and it will definitely be my last! PS, I took my car up the street and it passed! So take your car to either Valley Smog & Tags or Stanislaus Smog instead if you want good customer service! read more

Went here to smog my 2007 Toyota Corolla. Had no problems getting in and out, fair pricing and everything was smooth. I had to go here because Stanislaus smog was closed on Sunday, where I normally get my smog. I would recommend both Stanislaus Smog and this place, I'll update this review if I ever have a close call or failed smog. Like many places in Modesto, not the easiest place to walk but across the street there is TeaDaze and a Barnes and Noble. Our smog took about 30-minutes, you can also walk to the movie theater if you're feeling adventurous. read more

I love the staff. Selling a car and it didn't pass since I had recently changed the battery. They were so accommodating on a weekend to give me instructions to get the car error codes cleared, and rechecking multiple times after I put some miles on the car.
