Go-to for chicken wings. Recently moved here from a college town that had the best wings. Speedwell is there. Best in Plymouth area. Great menu selection. Lots of spicy choices that make it a challenge for Capsaicin allergy but overall there's something great on the menu. Live music makes for a very loud atmosphere but there's usually many families with young children. Mind you, this is a bar atmosphere. Prices are great. Parking is a challenge. Terrific wings ON THE BONE! Boneless wings were dry, but tasty! I'll stick with the wings on the bone from now on! They had several flavors too, but did away with my favorite teriyaki! It's a bar so the service was only as good as the bartender. It's in downtown Plymouth so parking is always problem. On the weekend you spend 20 minutes to a half hour trying to find a parking spot unless you wanna hike from the waterfront. Even then, it's 4 to 5 bucks in a time sensitive meter so parking alone in an additional cost! Otherwise it's a cool place to have some wings and a drink! read more

We stopped on a Thursday night to grab beers and a bite to eat. I ordered a cup of chowder with bacon which was above average and we split an order of large wings (12 pieces) with harbanera mango sauce which had a good kick to it. Excellent selection of draft beers on tap which included Trillium, Widowmaker, Vitamin Sea and Definitive, the draft beer was the draw for us but we caught some live music which was excellent and sat at the bar but they had some nice booths to choose from. This makes me sad as I have loved Speedwell but the past couple of visits have been disappointing. Really 2.5 stars, rounding up as maybe they are going through a rough patch and the potato chips are still awesome. First glass of wine was only filled 3/4, definitely a short pour. The non alcoholic beer has Lagunitas Hoppy listed on the menu. Don't be fooled, it is actually just sparkling water with a strange taste. The menu should really accurately reflect it under another section as it is definitely not beer and even the can is branded sparkling water. We requested another NA beer, an IPA. It arrived and was not an IPA. After waiting 10 minutes for our server to come back around, we just went up to the bar and learned they didn't have the IPA so substituted with Athletic Lite - didn't ask and didn't note that when it was served. We did let our server know, and appropriately, neither showed up on the bill. The bone in wings, which are usually the highlight of the meal, were disappointing. The flavors are good, the chicken was of poor quality and dry. I hope whatever has been going on at Speedwell is rectified soon. Bring back the awesome wings! They could use more help, as there were only 2 servers taking care of the entire place when we were there, so the wait time in between orders and delivery is long. It's not the servers fault, they were pleasant and hustling, just understaffed. read more

Fun Tavern atmosphere with good food. If you like burgers you have a hard time fitting your mouth around, this is the place for you! We ordered wings, fried pickle chips, burgers, and a chopped salad. The wings were ok, the fried pickle chips were tasty and handmade, with a spicy dip. The burgers were huge-ginormous, and the bacon on the burgers was crispy and delicious. And the salad was really really good - generous portions of bleu cheese, bacon, and chicken. Apparently sightseeing makes me super hungry so we dropped by Speedwell Tavern after a morning of walking in Plymouth. It wasn't too busy for lunchtime at Speedwell and we got to try a local brew along with their award winning wings and a bowl of clam and bacon chowder. The chowder was full of bacon-y goodness and the consistency was great- not too thick and not too thin. The wings were awesome. Today, me and my friends went to Speedwell. It was a slow monday night and we walked in at 6:25 roughly. We ordered our food by around 7:05 maybe 7:10. We figured it would be out fast because it was slow but that was not the case. We waited for 45+ minutes and by the time I'm done waiting I was hoping this fucking sandwhich was going to be diamond encrusted or some shit because i'm not waiting this long for a mediocre sandwhich. Also the lady who was serving us was rude and told us we could leave when we asked if it was worth waiting because at this point we were starving and pissed. Visiting my friend who lives in the area and she brought me to lunch at Speedwell Tavern. The ambience is quaint, on a busy street in Plymouth that has an older feel just like the whole town. We didn't have to wait long for a table, and we ended up sitting at the bar the three of us. The bartender had clearly been there for many years and was very sweet and knowledgeable. She helped recommend me a drink since they didn't have what i wanted- an espresso martini. She made me something with coffee liqueur since they didn't have fresh espresso. It was a bit one dimensional, i think it might have been like just baileys, but it was good & given the request and what they had, I feel it was the best she could have done lol. The spinach dip was the highlight of the meal for me. It came with actual fried pita as the chips and the thickness and crunch that they had over traditional chips was next level. The dip was also super creamy and delicious. For my main course I tried the burger and it was solid. Not the most incredible burger I've ever had but definitely does the trick. The sweet potato fries were great, I wish they would've had some type of dipping sauce for them specifically, Maybe a marshmallow dip? My friends had the buffalo chicken wrap and some wings. The wings were good, but came out cold at first. they made him a new batch and he said those were much better. Still, I will think about this spinach dip since I can't get it where I live ha. Great food, but not the best if you want takeout on a busy night. Tonight my boyfriend and I attempted to call in a takeout order multiple times, we each took turns on our phones calling in hopes one of us would eventually get through. After 30 minutes of trying, I eventually got someone to answer and asked me to wait a moment before placing my order. I said sure no problem, but then I was left alone on the phone for over 30 minutes. It got to a point where I think I was left hanging in hopes I would hang up and they wouldn't have to worry about me. I totally understand being busy, but don't answer the phone if you can't take my order. I ended up getting food from another place and was extremely disappointed. Speedwell needs an online order feature or something more than just one phone on the hook they don't answer :/ Again, still love the food, but I'm angry and disappointed in the service. read more

Ya'll are going to hate me. Went for some good bar food and casual atmosphere. Head banger rock music was way too loud, and don't get me wrong, I like head banger rock. We had to shout at each other over the din. Wings were reported to be the best in town. Very disappointed. They were cold, rubbery, and not at all crispy. Clearly dumped rom a freezer bag in the grease. (Try the wings across the street at Kogi. They know how to make wings!) Burgers were gray, dry, and overcooked preformed patties. BJ's sells Bubba Burgers in the freezer section that are comparable. No flavor, overcooked (we asked for mid-rare) and dry, stale buns that crumbled the first time we picked up our burgers for a bite. Maybe this place is intended for a different customer. read more

Sat at one of their umbrella'd sidewalk tables for a quick dinner, and found myself chuckling at the menu. Some of the combinations were given throwback pop culture hooks, which paired perfectly with their stoner flavor profiles. Started with the spinny artie dip - loved the crisped and puffy fried pita chips. Wife ordered her uje: a bacon cheeseburger with fries. Lots of crispy bacon, and the fries come with one of their seasoning blends if you wanna go wild. Which I did. Which I regret. Buffalo chicken wrap is outstanding: big and filling with fresh, crunchy lettuce, an appropriate sprinkle of cheese and killer chicken fingers. Being a fan of the heat, I went hard requesting the You're Fired! habanero spice dust on my fries. Tapped out halfway through - the Scovilles on this one are no joke. The wings - both bone in and boneless, dry rubbed or sauced - are best sellers, and they run daily spice or sauce blends based on a whim. Rudest bartender and servers I've experienced in a long time. Beyond slow, NO manners, and borderline harassing when their incompetence and poor customer service skills were exposed. Propping the door on a rainy, raw, and windy 40 degree day in New England without asking customers permission who were sitting at the bar right near the door is unacceptable. We were still harassed after we chose to close it. Our food was even colder, the spinach and artichoke dip coming straight out of the kitchen...COLD. I had seen Speedwell Tavern on Phantom Gourmet quite a while ago and never found the opportunity to go until I was in the area doing some Christmas shopping being that it was Black Friday and figured if I was going to go, today was just as well as any other. It took a while for somebody to seat me as the waitresses were all slammed. They seemed short handed until I realized the mistake I made which was I had forgotten that England was playing the United States in the World Cup in Qatar which would explain why the place was so jammed with people. Eventually I was seated at the " dry bar " and the bartender would wait on me. I ordered the Thanksgiving leftover egg rolls stuffed with turkey, stuffed and cranberries and served with gravy. They were out of this world. Perfectly crispy and stuffed to the max, I would order those again in a heartbeat. I then had the " Dragon Burger ". It had bacon, American cheese and topped with gochujang ( Korean chili paste ) sauce. It was the first time I had gochujang and while it was very tangy, it wasn't overpowering and I enjoyed it very much. I had water to drink and the bill came out to $31.01 with tax. As far as ambiance, if Guy Fieri ever wanted to do an episode of Diner's, Drive-In's and Dives, this place is the ultimate dive. It has almost a biker bar kind of look and is unpretentious in its look. There is nothing fancy about it and don't expect anything that people would classify as " gourmet " but the food was very tasty to the point that it would go very well with a brew and is a great place as a neighborhood hangout. It has plenty of sandwiches, soups, appetizers and " finger foods " that next thing you know, you've spent a few hours watching the game and you've thoroughly enjoyed yourself. I honestly have no idea what I was served ..... it was in a glass, had ice, and had the color of ice tea. Oh, it did have a cherry! Speedwells, I've been coming here for years with my family even before I was able to drink just to enjoy probably the best wings at the water front and got to know a handful of the bubbly staff. Over the past 6 months what a difference. The musty stinky smell from either the table cleaner, sinks or dirty taps is a bummer and that smell after going back to our beloved speedwells is still there. The staff is not bubbly nor smilie, there is not connection or good service anymore. The food came out before our beers within 5 mins of ordering our appetizer then 5mins after ordering our meal With out silverware our dinner came out- which is no big deal be an adult and just ask so we did but we had reminded the waitress for a box and another beer twice and she said she will be right back but didn't at that point we were all set with our drinks the place was not overly packed. I get being in the industry I had been before it by no means is not an easy job but it's a totally bummer my self, my family, and my husbands family will not be returning.
