My vehicle was towed approximately 7 miles, yet I was charged $400. When I questioned the price, I was given explanations that did not match what I had originally been told, including how they calculated the mileage. I also was not provided with a clear, itemized receipt explaining how a $125 hookup fee and a short tow turned into a $400 bill. She gave me a price for the tow, and I agreed to it. when the driver showed up and hooked up my truck, suddenly the price was 5 times higher than what I was told on the phone. At that point, what was I supposed to do? My truck was already hooked up. To the lady I spoke with on the phone -- you know what price you gave me. This is not right. They made me sign a sheet, which I thought was odd. then once i went to pay they almost tripled the price. the office and the tow truck driver said either I pay or they'll impound my car. After another half hour, we called and he just said that he would have the driver call us. They never provided a total cost breakdown before the service. The hourly rate of $195 is port-to-port, which is a scam because their home base is very far away, which means they can charge extra hours coming to your location and getting back. The total service took less than 1 hour from when they pick up the bike to drop-off. From the time I first called to the drop-off is less than 2 hours. We recently called this company for a basic winch-out on an empty semi truck and trailer that was stuck on snow and ice. They never disclosed any pricing before dispatching or performing the service. After pulling the truck out, they presented a bill for $5,572. For comparison, we had a nearly identical winch-out done the day before by another company for $650, which is typical for the industry. When we questioned the charges, the operator refused to unhook or release our truck until the full amount was paid. This experience felt extremely predatory and completely unreasonable.
