I was swayed by the reviews and went, first of all, the place is old cramped and dark. The bald guy has terrible attitude problem, we kindly asked if he could change my food because it was extremely salty and greasy and he said he couldn't because the food came out of the can that way... I was shocked, food came out of a can?? I was eating chile colorado plate which was unpleasant, smelly, greasy. I'm a huge fan of Mexican food and this place does it no justice the worse experience ever. My sister asked for fries they were poorly served, greasy, and soggy, especially for the price of 4.95!! Plus he added his tip to our check without even asking first !?? So rude. Not to mention the dirty utensils. If you're considering going, PLEASE DONT ITS UNSANITARY AND PRICEY. Pretty good. It was busy when we ate (lunch time). Chips and salsa was very good. The salsa is just the right consistency, and that makes it very good with the chips (which are also good). The waiter was an older guy and very nice. Very attentive service. I ordered the chile Colorado. Every part of the food was good. Beans were good and rice was tasty. However, I only got two flour tortillas with my chile Colorado (three would have been better). All-in-all a very nice restaurant. Great food, great service, and not too bad on the price. Also, the fact that this place seems like a family owned restaurant is a plus because I support the small business. It's not very often that I choose to continue eating until I'm way passed full. I've driven by this place with my son Joseph more times then I can count, so finally for my birthday we stopped. Finally gave this place a shot for lunch today. I wish I would've asked the server's name because he was one of the best we've ever had anywhere. Uhh! This place is a dump, which could be "okay" if the food was good but neather the food or the service was good. I saw that this place had some posative reviews on yelp which were apparently over rated reviews for this place and decided to stop on the way through town. We pulled up to this run down building in the dirt parking lot, and I noticed right away that they weren't crowded enough to be a 4star place on a Friday night at about 730p. We agreed to give the place the benefit of the doubt because yelp has not let me down (until now.). Once we got in they handed us there gross, dirty, soggy menus, and sat us at dirty table which they later cleaned for us. After being seated for awhile they chucked our flatware all over the table. It took forever to get our food (not so speedy joe!), but when I did I got someone else's food, after I put my hands on it and fork in it was transfer to the correct table. The food was not authentic or good. I got the Carne Asada burrito, with tomato sauce on top and fatty chunks of beef inside (I felt like a cow chewing on its cud, I eventually spit out the fatty steak out I lost my appetite and didn't finish my food or take it to go (no one at the table finished the food or took it to go. The prices aren't that great, it costs about $10-15 per person. What a disappointment Uh, never again. --Some one said that this is the best Mexican food in the area I don't believe it's true, there has got to be a descent place in the area that serves Mexican food. Went to Speedy Joe's for a change of venue for Friday. First thing we noticed was it was a small yet cozy dining area. Sat down and salsa (really good and nice bite in the back of your mouth) and chips were quick to the table. Ordered a pitcher of beer (they only have beer and wine, won't get into the politics around liquor licensing) and their original winearita...a margarita with wine instead of Tequila. My wife said it was light and refreshing. A interesting spin on Margaritas and worth a try! My wife and a friend split a Carnitas burrito (very good) and I ordered the Carnitas plate that was excellent. Reminded me of the Carnitas from the old Ramone's Restaurant in Lancaster. Slightly crispy and delicious! I always look at a Mexican restaurant's Carnitas as a litmus test of how they treat a Mexican staple. Do a basic item good, chances are everything will be good. In my quest for the best Mexican food in the AV, Speedy Joe's is... the current champion! As previous reviewers mentioned, this place isn't exactly easy on the eyes. Actually, it looks pretty scary, and if I'd seen the Health Inspector's "B" sign BEFORE I'd sat down and ordered, I may have been scared away. I'm glad I stuck with it! The chips were fresh, salsa good & hot, and the enchiladas I ordered were muy delicioso! The Hubby ordered a carne asada burrito and it was HUGE, and he said it was really good. My wife and I stopped in here one day on a whim. We were pleasantly surprised. I had the two taco combo plate and my wife had a burrito. It is a hole in the wall true, but if you love Mexican food the hole in the walls are the best place to go. Ok, went here last week for the 2nd time. Inside was a bit brighter from a sunny day and gag! The walls are dirty and have food stuck on them. The older man ( owner ) kept coughing with his mouth open behind the counter. The longer we stayed, the more we got nauseous and just couldn't eat our food any longer. My husband and I have been going to speedys about 11years. And even when we moved we occasionally drove down to have dinner there. We absolutely loved the albondigas soup. Yes it's a small old building, but they have A grade. And the food smell as good as it tastes, and they're not expensive they have their prices on the menu. Their carnitas are killer, very friendly atmosphere. Not only do you get a good meal but the servers make your meal even more enjoyable, they know how to take care of their patrons, and if anybody has anything negative to say about the restaurant only because they are probably stuck up A HOLES. I drove by this place for many years and decided to stop for lunch hoping it was one of those little dumps with really great food. I've eaten at a lot of cheap Mexican restaurants in my life but this was the worst. I can't even remember what I had but it tasted like warmed over leftovers from the previous day. The building must have been an old, very old house with low ceilings and it was hot and crowded inside. It's one of those kind of places where you would rather wait and go home to use the restroom fearing what this one might be like. I guess it appeals to some people's tastes. I've been to a couple other horrible places just once and then read 'fabulous' reviews on Yelp and still don't understand what that's about. The burrito's plate was SUPER HOT, and the burrito luke warm...and it came out in 5 minutes flat. obviously microwaved. Chips super greasy. salsa just ok. To top it off, expensive. We were seated promptly and brought chips and salsa. I ordered the chicken burrito, rice and beans and my spouse had the carne asasda. My burrito was stuffed with white meat chicken and was a large portion. I could barely finish it. The taste was excellent. My spouse's carne asada was devoured. The check (with wine) was moderate and we both agreed that this and Los Arcos are our favorite's for fast food without a fast food taste. Give it a try, I'm sure you will like it. read more
