Fried zucchini
Keli T.

I went here while in town with a coworker. I don't think you could locate this spot without a local. Anyway the fried zucchini was the best thing there. I could've just eaten that. It was so good. Oddly enough I ordered a steak for my entree. It was so overcooked and no one ever asked if it was okay. It was only $23, so I guess you get what you pay for. I likely will not return.

This place is a hidden gem in the Mon Valley. You really get it all here: pleasant ambiance, very congenial staff, delicious food, a view, a full bar, and also of note, house baked desserts. In a time where it is increasingly hard to find restaurants with food worth paying for, Speers Street is definitely worth it. Our first visit we ordered the Pecan Salmon Crunch and the Steak Teriyaki Tips. My perfectly cooked salmon featured a honey mustard drizzle and rosemary rice. I enjoyed it very much and am rather picky about salmon, but this was Pacific salmon so big plus. The rosemary rice is just beautiful to taste. My second visit I got the Cod & Mushroom entree. It was fantastic, perfectly cooked, delicate flavor, and literally the perfect amount of cracker crumbs and butter. The scampi butter is addictive. The cod was delectable and the mushrooms were flawless. My wife doesn't ever order fish, but after tasting it she said this was definitely a winner! Her teriyaki tips were tender and flavorful. On our second visit, we shared the Autumn Harvest Salad. It was fresh and the flavors mingled well. My wife ordered the Steak Alfredo Cavatappi and it was wonderful. The peanut butter pie is our favorite dessert. Don't forget to grab coconut rum biscotti on your way out!!

what a wonderful place! Of course, if the weather is nice sitting outside makes this even better - but inside ambiance is just as nice. The food and drinks here are great, my family and I come here often. It's casual enough for lunch, but has become our new celebration spot for anniversaries and birthdays, too! p.S. they also have the BEST house made desserts.

I chose this place for my birthday dinner and was not disappointed. We were seated right away and were able to snag a table outside to enjoy the river view. Our waitress was pleasant and took care of us throughout our time there. We ordered the fried zucchini as our appetizer and it was superb. Words really can't describe how delicious it truly is. I ordered the chicken alfredo for my entree and it was really good as well. The homemade sauce was amazing! I highly recommend giving this lovely restaurant a try.

Sometimes you take a path of the path and on the right road. This place has all the right things. Great food, amazing services and a great indoor outdoor field. The food is real and tasty. Surprising at every turn of the menu, nothing is a wrong choice. Be bold, be adventurous and definitely try the zuchinni. New place for us but will be a must stop when in the area.

Visiting this spot as we continue celebrating our daughters 15th birthday on our stop here in PA

We were visiting Belle Vernon which is right outside Pittsburg and we're looking for a place to eat and this was recommended by a number of yelpers...once again, we were not disappointed!!! Homey feel to this place Thts right on the river. Stacey was our server and she was very sweet and attentive. We had a party of 11 which is a fairly Big group for this place but they accommodated. I had one of the weekend specials which was cheese and chicken tortellini...tortellini was a bit chewy, pasta tasted a bit under seasoned but cheese/Alfredo sauce was tasty. Chicken was very well seasoned and cooked. Wife had the salmon crunch which is a pecan crusted salmon that I almost fought her for. It was soooooooo good. And I don't even like salmon all that much. Daughters had another weekend special which was a blackberry pork chop which was ok. Brother in law had the surf and turf pasta and that was also realllly good. Desserts we're on point! We got the cheesecake platter that brings like 6 different cheesecakes and some cookies and everything was sooo good! If you are ever in the area, definitely somewhere you wanna drop in and take your time at...enjoy some time around the river, soak in the views and enjoy your company!!!

I went here today with my stepdaughter. Such a nice restaurant with plenty of seating. Waitress was very kind and took really good care of us. Took home 3 boxes of leftovers, and we also tried the mozzarella sticks. Very good and can't wait to go in the summer. It's located on the river.

They are no longer at Lowe's at 200 Sara Way in Rostraver Township/Belle Vernon; they've moved down the road to Val's Beer Distributor & Car Wash. I had a BOGO coupon for a free sandwich (you can get a regular-sized sandwich,...about 6",...or a large). The young man who was behind the counter was busting his rear end working on orders. There was one guy ahead of me who appeared to have ordered two large sandwiches (let's call them what they are,...subs, hoagies, grinders, etc.). Then there was me, then a guy after me. As I order, I notice there are 6-7 large sandwiches already made and wrapped. In a few minutes, some utility company workers roll up,...they apparently pre-ordered lunch. Their total was $64 and some change. The utility company worker pays cash,...and proceeds to give the young man a $1.00 tip. Really? On a $64 order? Sometimes people just...plain...suck. Now, with my BOGO, my order came to between $7.50 and $8.00. I give the young man a $10 and tell him to keep the change. He thanked me for the tip, commenting it was more than what the $64-order guy gave him. He was still "upset" over the chintzy tip he received on the $64 order, so I gave him another $6.00 in an attempt to "restore his faith in humanity." [Ok, it was to make up for the utility company worker being a jagoff (trust me, they make decent money).] As for the sandwiches (we got a pastrami and hot sausage); they were tasty and were flavored well. Both had peppers, onions and cheese. A little on the salty side, but tasty nonetheless. The buns were nice and soft, and fresh as a morning daisy. My only complaint - just wish there was a little more meat in the pastrami sandwich (I'm sure they're bound by some corporate standard). The prices are comparable to a Place like Subway, but taste better. Hats off to the young man working there. Would we go back? No reason not to.

I made a reservation for the High Tea for my husband and me. An employee promptly seated us. I felt disappointed that this tea room gave us plain white teapots without loose leaves and that they did courses rather than use a three-tier stand of foods, but we did have some choice in the teas and foods, and they did taste very good. The High Tea consists of the following: pots of hot water with a large selection of tea bags, choice of cold drinks, scone with devonshire, choice of soup, salad, three sandwiches, and choice of three desserts. For drinks, we chose four teas--cinnamon plum, peach and passionfruit, English breakfast, and salted caramel--not just two teas like at other tea rooms. We received colds teas, peach and sweet, included in the price. For foods, we chose two scones, M&M and one other that I forget. We chose two soups, which were chicken noodle and cheesy potato. The salad contained greens, cheeses, peanuts, cranberries, and raspberry dressing. The three sandwiches were cucumber, tomato-bacon-basil, and my favorite of chicken salad. For desserts, we chose lemon cake, carrot-cake cupcake, pineapple cake (?), cheesecake, brownie, and my favorite of cherry-chocolate ice cream. I appreciated having a cold dessert in the middle of the hot summer, and it was one of the best ice creams that I have ever tasted.

The salad had a few brown spots, and as you can see in the picture, I had to discard a few pieces,…read morebut overall the food was very tasty. The waitress was very attentive to our needs and the staff were friendly. The decor was amazing to see so many beautiful teapots and teacups and to be surrounded by such beautiful tea sets. We enjoyed our dinner at The Back Porch Restaurant in Belle Vernon, PA…read more This restaurant is about 1 hour drive from downtown Pittsburgh. We are in town for a wedding. The building is a beautiful mansion Est. in 1806. The mansion was converted to a restaurant in 1975. You need reservations for the upper upscale dining area. We decided to eat in the Speakeasy room located in the basement because it was more casual. Glad we ate in speakeasy room because it was a really nice cave looking room with vintage decor and cool prohibition photos from the 1920s. We enjoyed the Half Rack of char grilled pork ribs with brown sugar, soy and ginger with a side of cheesy scallop potatoes. For dessert, we enjoyed the crème brûlée and Kahlua cheesecake. Everything we ordered was excellent!! We had really good service. Check this place out if ever in the area. Happy Yelping :)

The ambiance is intimate and welcoming. The interior and decor really add to the charm. We had reservations for 10 at 6:30 on a Saturday. We were sat in a back room at a nice big table. Sonny (sp?) our wait staff did a phenomenal job keeping up with all of our requests. A couple diners in our group were picky eaters, and even with their nitpicking he maintained a great attitude and made sure to make everyone feel at home. They had a great selection of summer specials. I opted for the hibiscus mule - a yummy cocktail with a tequila twist. My husband got the strawberry smash. Both drinks were strong and full of flavor. Thank goodness the homemade rolls came after my drink because the mule was kicking in! The bread was soft and you could tell it was homemade. Then came the food. The presentation was gorgeous and the flavors were on point. We ordered the calamari as our appetizer. Lightly breaded and not overly salty like you get some places. The sweet chili sauce with it was the perfect addition. For dinner we had the prime rib, and salmon Hemingway, with a side of scalloped potatoes and Parisian carrots. I was getting full but couldn't help but finish my salmon. Everything tasted amazing! The potatoes were rich and creamy. I had to save room for dessert. They were out of my first choice of chocolate mousse cake, so I opted for the creme brûlée. Wonderful experience at the Back Porch. I highly recommend enjoying a date night or celebratory dinner here!
