Real good place. Ground my Honda keys - which any Honda owner knows those keys are a PITA. They didn't work right at first so he finished them by hand, filing and brushing. I had broken the key off in the lock on my Thule cargo box. Several places said they couldn't help with that, but Spencer's said to bring it on over. The folks there had the broken key out in about 5 minutes, for which they charged me $30, plus $8 for an additional key (I still had one left, thank goodness). Time spent driving from my place, making a giant loop, then hunting up and down Spring Street looking for Spencer's: fifteen minutes. Time required for the folks here to fashion me up two perfectly functional duplicate keys: thirty seconds. For those that are as directionally challenged as I am, Sunset Hills turns into Spring Street. That would have shaved off a good ten minutes of driving right there. You'll find this shop on the south side of the road, nestled into a strip mall of various other businesses, the most notable of which was Mr. Pepperoni. I kind of want to try it out (regardless of the awful reviews) on the basis of its amazingly ridiculous name alone. Anyway, with an in-and-out investment of $4.50 (plus tax) and two minutes, I walked out with exactly what I needed. Score. read more

Visited Spencer's Safe & Lock, looking for a home safe since the bank branch with our safe deposit box was closing and the new location will not have safe deposit boxes. After doing some research online, I visited this local store as I'd prefer to support local businesses. Spencer's had a number of safes that met my needs, however they were priced $150 - $200 more than what I found online with free shipping. When I inquired if they could meet the online price, the staff simple said I'll have to check with the 'boss', who's on vacation. I called again a week later when the boss returned and was told yet again that's he'd have to check with the boss and that I'll get a call back. After several attempts and a month later, I kept on being told the same... "I'll need to check with the boss and I'll call you back". I simply wanted to get an answer or even a counter offer. Don't bother shopping here for safes. You can find them online for much less w/ free shipping... and given the extremely poor customer service from Spencer's, I wouldn't trust them on other services. read more

Great experience - Popped in to get replacement keys for a car. Only had the Valet key... but I did go ahead and purchase key/fobs on line. No hassle about bringing in my own keys to be cut... even though it seems they would have had them in stock. Fast service. Cut keys. Went out to try them both, then programmed them... under 15 minutes... Price was $130. Cheaper than dealer - but had heard a cheaper quote elsewhere - but Spencer's was on the way. These guys were friendly on the phone and got me an appointment quickly. They showed up nearly on time (rare for a service call) -- well, within the window they predicted, about an hour into it, which is fine. Two people showed up to work on two doors. I was having new hardware installed, two deadbolts and knobs along with a regal looking new handle for the front door. They came in and instantly got to work, drilling and assembling. They even tightened up my door hinges and helped align things a little better than they were previously. The team was very friendly and professional. They do good work. And they were fast. In fact, they were only here about 30 minutes. This is the cost breakdown from my receipt -- mind you, I bought my own hardware and all they did was show up to install it (I had done some previous ones on my own and found it tough because no two doors or sets are exactly the same and sometimes require a bit of expertise to make the set you want work with the exterior door in question): - $80 service call (standard fee for them to even show up... I'm not sure why it's so high, given that they only had to come a few miles from Herndon and I'd think they would just build overhead into the labor rates) - $125 labor (this works out to about a $31.25 hourly rate for each of the workers, which doesn't seem that unreasonable) TOTAL: $205 (Overall, this seems a tad steep for how long the job actually took and the fact that I didn't have anything really nonstandard that they had to do. If you discount that the 80 bucks above is a service call fee, this would work out to $102.50 an hour to hire this company [or $51.25 per guy they sent]. But, it was $10 less than the $215 quote they gave me on the phone.) Overall, they did a great job, they work fast and they are friendly and reliable. I would probably hire them again. But the $80 service call fee seems unnecessarily high, and I'm not even certain that they really needed to send two people out to do such a simple job. read more

I have a rental unit in Reston & have used Spencer's Safe & Lock for my unit on various occasions (re-key, lock broke, etc). It's not by choice that I have used them at least 3 - 4 times, but every time they have been great! Rich the technician is very knowledgeable, prompt and answers all my questions. Making appointments is seamless and usually can get you in the next day. Price wise I think it is crazy, but in comparison to other companies I guess it is average to others if not a little less. I was out of country when Returned Find my pickup with battery died and the key isn't open the doors, so call Spencer to help me up, when a person came he sprayed DW40 and moved back and for the key then just opened the door very easily less than 10seconds , and still charge $100.00 then asked how much will be to repair the passenger side look because he said will need to order and replaced without trying to fix it. First, this place actually exists, unlike the vast majority of locksmiths listed in the area. So that's worth four stars right there. Second... he's there! There is one other locksmith with an actual storefront I found, and both times I drove by during business hours the lights were on but nobody was home, with no indication of when he might return. Third, I got my lock rekeyed quickly at a fair cost, and he was very nice too. If you're looking for a mobile locksmith, there may be other perfectly good locksmiths around. But I would still recommend Spencer's. If you're holding something in your hand that you need to take in and get done, then this is your best and only choice. read more
