This review reflects only my personal experience and opinion regarding my interaction with one National Key & Lock technician on July 1 and July 2, 2026. It is not a review of National Key & Lock as a company or of any other employee. July 1, 2026 I had a scheduled appointment with a National Key & Lock technician through my American Home Shield/Frontdoor home warranty plan to have rekey service performed on my home. Before the appointment, I received written information from American Home Shield explaining that the rekey service included: * Rekey up to 6 keyholes * Provide 4 identical copies of new keys * Each key will work on each keyhole that has been rekeyed * Test the new keys to ensure functionality Based on that information, I understood that the rekey service included four identical copies of new keys. When the technician arrived, he asked how many doors needed rekey service. I told him there were three and showed him two of the doors, explaining that the third door was located in my basement. The technician then asked for my keys. I went upstairs and brought down my original house keys on a keychain. When I asked why he needed them, he told me he was going to copy them. I explained that I had requested rekey service through my American Home Shield/Frontdoor home warranty plan. The technician then told me I would have to pay $15.00 for each new key. I explained that this did not match the written information I had received from American Home Shield and that I was requesting only the rekey service included in my coverage. To avoid any misunderstanding, I contacted American Home Shield before authorizing any work. During our conversation, the technician stated that this was "between him and me, not them." I requested a callback from American Home Shield so I could verify my coverage before proceeding. Throughout our discussion, I repeatedly explained that I was requesting only the rekey service included in my American Home Shield coverage and was not requesting any additional keys or services. The technician then left my home without performing any work. As he walked toward his vehicle, I asked, "Are you leaving?" At approximately 4:01 p.m., I photographed the technician as he left my property and entered his vehicle. During our entire conversation, my nephew was seated in my dining room and heard the discussion, including the conversation regarding the proposed $15.00 charge for each new key. July 2, 2026 The following day, I received a call from an American Home Shield supervisor. I was informed that the technician had reported completing the rekeying of two of my doors and that the third door could not be rekeyed because there was no key. Based on my personal knowledge, no work was performed on any of my doors, and none of my locks were rekeyed. American Home Shield advised me that another locksmith would be assigned to complete the rekey service at my home. Had I not reviewed the written information provided by American Home Shield before the appointment, I may have believed that I was required to pay an additional $15.00 for each new key. Because I reviewed my coverage beforehand, I understood what my American Home Shield plan stated was included in the rekey service. I had another incident that I needed help with and I thought I would reuse them. My phone sends unknown numbers to spam and so I was missing the dispatchers call. When I called back the dispatcher was extremely rude. I locked myself out on my way to my grandmas calling hours. You need better customer service because you never know what people are dealing with. The dispatcher is the first line of contact and being rude and yelling at a customer should never be how people are treated. Retrain your staff. read more

While they came quickly and reprogrammed my key for $200, they also broke the rearview mirror in my car. Tech tried fixing it with tape which lasted less than a day. It took me reaching out for them to respond in any way and all I got was a "sorry" and that they would send the same tech who broke my mirror in the first place to glue it on. Would not recommend. Update after their message: The tech broke my mirror, blamed it on the car, tried a haphazard fix and there was no response from the company until I reached out. I could've understood if the tech went to get the proper glue and fix it right then but both him and your company played it off like it was no big deal. So no, I don't believe this is unfair. read more

We just moved into a newly constructed place and needed our front and back locks rekeyed. I requested a quote on Yelp and heard back within the hour from at least four companies including National Lock and Key. I sent them images of each lock and was surprised when they offered me a $99 Yelp special. I spoke with two other companies who quoted me around $180 and $200 and, after sharing that a "competitor" quoted me $99, they expressed concern that they would pull a bait and switch and charge me more. When your security is in someone else's hands, are to really going to send them away because they up the price? The locksmith came and after looking at my locks, said the cost would be $174. Something about the front lock not being a brand that could be rekeyed. Idk - I'm sure I'm not articulating the reason well but I was mostly annoyed that the bait & switch prophecy came true. At the end of the day, I'm glad I went ahead with it because I appreciate the security and think the locksmith did a good job. But maybe they shouldn't be giving quotes based on images if there's even a chance the job could end up costing more. read more

I have a 2019 Subaru Forester and after two battery replacements my key fob was still acting up and setting the alarm off constantly. I called a dealership and they wouldn't give me a solid price quote, just a price range. Amber from National Lock & Key responded promptly with an exact price quote and an appointment time as soon as the next morning. This price was half of what the dealership wanted and they come to you! I confirmed an appointment later that week and was given a time window and a confirmation. The day of the appointment Amber reached back out with an exact time to expect the technician. Andre was my locksmith and called when he arrived. He was extremely professional and knowledgeable. He programmed the new smart fob and cut the new emergency key. He tested both the old and new keys several times, and made sure I tested the new key as well. The whole process took around 15 minutes and was so smooth! Payment was done on credit card and I immediately received an invoice receipt by email. I really recommend this service if you need a new smart key programmed, way better than dealing with upselling and long waits at the dealership. read more

Prompt appointment and response. We used this contractor for car key programming. Be careful if you are not purchasing the fob directly from this vendor. We mistakenly bought a wrong fob, and they tried to program it without verifying it first. When it didn't work, they still charged us a $130($30 programming fee included) service fee. We ended up purchasing a correct fob online and took it to the dealer for programming. If you already have the fob, this option was much safer, as the dealer does not charge a service fee if the fob doesn't work. read more

Only 4 stars due to the poor communication. I received one word responses and it was frustrating to get and receive information. A little rude. I was going to go with another locksmith which was $50 more, just because of the interaction I had online/text. However National Lock & Key was able to come sooner, so I went ahead with using their services. Please get another person to be in charge of communication to customers. At settlement for my new condo, the title company handed me a ziploc bag with 45 keys in it, all unlabeled. This is not an exaggeration. After a lot of trial-and-error, I found that a couple of them weren't even for active locks. I learned that I needed to have four separate keys for the locks on the shared front and back door. The bulky jingle on my keychain made me resemble a janitor with a side hustle valet parking. Enter National Lock & Key. Had a great experience when taking advantage of the re-keying special they're running--four re-keys for $149. I went from four keys for these two doors, down to one. It is a life-changer with no more fumbling trying to figure out key roulette every time I come home. Can't say enough good things about Alex I. While he came out later for the appointment than I had planned (the dispatch team didn't relay the right time), he was thorough, flexible, and creative when thinking through a few ideas to minimize the number of keys needed, and made several suggestions for future considerations with smart lock options. I unfortunately had a negative experience with this company. I felt that they were trying to up-charge me for each thing. They charged me to install a smart lock but once it was installed they told me it was broken and wouldn't work. They still charged me for the installation. They also told me the other locks I bought couldn't be installed even though they could, so I was stuck purchasing materials from them and have doorknobs that don't match. read more
