It was our first time at GrillMarX in Olney, and overall it was a very good experience. The place was packed when we arrived, and it was pretty noisy inside, so sitting outside turned out to be the right call. The only rough part was the welcome. The hostess seemed to avoid eye contact for about five minutes even though we were standing right in front of her. It felt a little like we had shown up too early for a surprise party that was clearly not for us. Once we were seated, everything improved. Our waitress, Paige, was attentive, thoughtful, and made the experience feel genuinely warm. We started with the mussels, which were exceptional; meaty, creamy, and delicious, with bread good enough to make restraint feel optional. We also had the mini Paloma oyster shooters, which were fun and memorable. I ordered a seasonal cocktail with very little simple syrup, since I usually do not like sweet drinks, and they got it exactly right, which is rarer than it should be. For the main course, we had the seasonal surf and turf special, an 8 oz filet mignon with crab meat over asparagus and succotash. The crust on the steak was excellent, the vegetables were perfectly seasoned, and the filet was cooked exactly as ordered. We finished with their newer take on key lime pie, which was very good and nicely balanced; not too sweet, not too tart. We spent just under $100 per person, so this is not an inexpensive night out. That said, the food quality and service largely justify the price. Overall, aside from the awkward start at the hostess stand, this was an excellent first visit. I came here on Sunday evening around 4pm for a catch-up with my best friend and this was the perfect time to come. We were seated immediately and out food came out super quickly as well. We wanted to spend most of our time talking so we only ordered an appetizer and drink. I got the half rack of ribs and a coke & she got the spinach dip and water. They both came out at the same time and was perfect to eat and chat. The only thing I would comment on is the fact our server kinda seemed like his shift was about to end and wanted us to hurry up and close our tab. We go here periodically. It's a little more pricey than we like to pay on average, but the food and the service has always been consistent and very good. We went last night on the 4th after losing power; maybe going later in the evening on a holiday was our mistake. The service was extremely poor; our waitress did not want to be working! She was not attentive or friendly. My cosmopolitan was probably one of the worst I've ever had; the bartender definitely did not know how to make a good one. Do not waste your $16. My side salad was a very large portion, which I can appreciate, but it was 99% lettuce. There was a couple of pieces of cucumber, cherry tomato, and onion on it. I had wanted a salad, not lettuce. The ribs were very good as usual, they're always a stand out, but the french fries unfortunately were overdone and didn't have any seasoning/salt/anything on them. They tasted burnt. The Ahi tuna salad was very pretty and it had a nice flavor, but other than the ring of tuna around the edge, it, too, was predominantly lettuce. Definitely not a meal that we would recommend, and it will make us think twice about going back, at least any time soon. Came here to meet friends to celebrate a bday. We ended up having dinner and a nice time. It was my first time at GrillMarx. It was a Friday night and the place was packed. We first had drinks at the bar area and then moved to a table. I had a burger, which was pretty big and good. The other ladies in our group had a range of dishes, burgers too, salad, and several had the kebabs which they all said was great (looked delicious). Overall, the food was good and the service was good as well. I would have given 5 stars but I think some dishes are a bit on the expensive side. The Prime Rib and the mussels are a must. Both were cooked to perfection, flavorful, and nice -size portions. Our waiter was wonderful. It was very attentive Marquis and he even went back to ask the chef for a lean piece of Prime Rib. The baked potato with the prime rib was excellent. The Caesar salad was a great starter. We needed more dressing, but the flavor was good. The only thing that needed help was the tuna tart appetizer. It was a lot of wonton and minimal tuna . Next time I will order the ribs appetizer. GrillMarx - you think could cook a steak!! Not so much... Every time I come back it's something. This time ny strip - came out blu after ordered med/rare. They took it back after resting, and brought it back tough and over seasoned, the line cook thought it was a good idea to re-season the steak after cooking it for a second time. Tastes like a salt bowl. They did offer to bring me another meal, but my guest was already finished at the end of this adventure. Waiter was great, but I'm leaving hungry! Food: Oysters appetizer sized small but quite pricey ($98 for 2 dozens). Prime rib was decent, Chicken breast avocado sandwich was way too dry & lack flavors. BBQ ribs was tasty and the Cobb salad was surprisingly delicious. We asked for side orders of fresh bread twice but the server never brought it to us. I was very disappointed. Heads up, this place is so noisy with super loud music going on and the large happy hour crowd around, you literally have to scream across the table to hear each other. It's a pretty small place and a little cramped, but the decor is cute and cozy. Our server was nice enough, although he could have been a little more attentive. I ordered the seasonal pumpkin spiced martini which was absolutely delicious. My second drink was my favorite though. It was called heaven and hell - the menu description is "Rum Haven Coconut Rum / Pineapple Juice / Lime Juice / Habanero Simple / Jalapeno Garnish." It was the best drink I've had in a really long time. It had the perfect balance of sweetness and spiciness. I would highly recommended it. A woman, I'm assuming the manager, came over and asked if my gf and I needed anything and that's when I ordered the heaven and hell drink. The woman was nice enough to give that round to us for free! I wasn't expecting that at all. For dinner I got the meatloaf and my gf got the Kona kabobs. The meatloaf was absolutely the best meatloaf I've ever had. We had just eaten here a few weeks ago and had a great meal; and I have a good review! We invited friends back we enjoyed it so much. First the good; the wine was very good, the oysters were delicious and the Caesar salad was very good. The presentation of the food is excellent. Unfortunately, the ribeye steaks were much smaller, thinner, and not as tender (same steak I had ordered a few weeks ago). I was really disappointed with my recent experience at Grill Marx. I ordered the Kona steak medium well, just like I've done several times before, and it has always been juicy and full of flavor. This time, however, it was the complete opposite -- tough, dry, and lacking any real flavor. I barely touched it while dining in, and unfortunately ended up taking it home only to throw it away. It was a complete waste of money. What made the experience even more frustrating was the response from the waiter. I was told there was nothing they could do besides offer a drink or dessert, which didn't really address the issue or make up for the poor quality of the meal. We enjoyed the spinach dip which had a lot more spinach than most places. The mussels were good, but the cream sauce was surprisingly heavy and thick for this dish. Everything else was predictable, nothing too interesting or unique, just solid basic American food, good steaks, oysters, etc. The decor felt very generic with dark lighting, and plain wood and brown everywhere. Service was slow, although the restaurant wasn't busy. The real issue was when we left. The server literally followed us out of the restaurant onto the sidewalk, saying that we still owed them money. The total bill amount had seemed correct, and the charges were already showing up online on the statement, so we weren't sure what the issue could be. The server asked us to come back in, called the manager up to the front entrance of the restaurant to verify that we paid using their billing system. This was embarrassing because I felt like we were being accused of not paying, in a very open/public way. The manager then quoted an amount that we owed, which was the same as the amount we already paid. Were they trying to double charge us? When the burger arrived, it looked as previously described, mouthwatering. I took a little bit off with my fork and WHOA, it was as dry as cardboard, with an off putting flavor. I had a friend at the table try a bit with her fork and she immediately pulled up her nose and said the same thing. She suggested that I return it, but it was what I ordered. The waiter was kind enough, when I ordered, to allowed me to substitute the mixed salad with fries. There were a few long fries on top, but as I removed them, I was left with a bunch of what I would call "nubs" I kind of just picked at the burger and ate the toppings, but left most of it, including the bun and the "nubs" I'm not sure I would go back. I am giving two stars because others in the group seemed to enjoy their meal and seemed pleased. I had a mostly fantastic experience at GrillMarX in Olney, MD, and would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a polished, upscale dining experience--with just one major area for improvement. First, the atmosphere is upscale yet welcoming, and the service was outstanding from start to finish. The drinks were also excellent--expertly crafted and full of flavor. While they are definitely on the pricier side, the quality was clearly there, and I appreciated the creativity behind each cocktail. The oysters were a highlight of the meal--fresh, briny, and absolutely delicious. They were presented beautifully and tasted even better. Truly a standout. However, given that this is a steakhouse with entrées in the $45-$50 range, I have to be honest: the steak preparation was disappointing. I ordered my steak medium rare, and it arrived clearly overcooked. To their credit, the staff was quick to acknowledge the mistake and did re-cook it without hesitation. But the second steak took quite a long time to come out, which disrupted the flow of the meal, and by then, the experience had already lost a bit of its shine. For a restaurant of this caliber--especially one that clearly prides itself on its steaks--I expected it to be cooked perfectly the first time. When you're paying a premium price, precision matters. That said, the second steak was much closer to what I initially requested and still flavorful and well-seasoned. All in all, GrillMarX delivers on service, ambiance, and overall quality, with a menu that shows a lot of promise. I do hope they tighten up consistency on their steak preparation, because everything else--from the oysters to the drinks to the staff--was truly excellent. We had a fantastic family holiday celebration today, and Ryan was our server. He made our day by providing attentive and accommodating service. Ryan worked hard to ensure that we had everything we needed, and that the food came out hot and tasty. We all enjoyed the breakfast buffet, which was served promptly at our table. I've removed 1 star from my prior review because of this visit last night. If I was reviewing MY meal alone, GrillMarx would receive 1 star andvid be hard pressed to return! But because 2 of the 4 at dinner had great entrees, 1 had mediocre and 1 less than mediocre, I'll favor the establishment based on 2.5 entrees and reduce 5 to 4 to be generous! To start, service was horrible!! Waiter was personable, that's it, and needs to have service skills improvement. When he first came to the table, he NEVER asked if we wanted to order drinks. He brought small glasses of water and left to give us time to chat and read the menu. However, that should have been the time to ask for drink orders and offer bread for the table or apps while chatting. I was starving, skipped lunch in anticipation for this dinner as I was highly recommended to try their Caesar salad. Many know I LOVE a good Caesar and have yet to find one lately and this was on the list to try. Anyway, I digress from the service points. He did come back, still didn't ask about drinks or offer bread or if we wanted appetizers as 1 of our group still wasn't ready. So he left. Once we all had decided, he took our order without writing anything down and 2 of the 4 in our group had very specific requests. We did make comment about it to him that he'll remember all the specificity of those 2 orders, which he was confident he would remember. As he was leaving, I asked if I could order iced tea and coke for my hubby. He NEVER asked! Everyone else stuck with water. Again, no bread offered. Sure enough, he later returned to ask a question about 1 of the orders as he forgot!!! AND it was WAY overdue that we still did NOT receive our drinks we ordered SO, we had to remind him if we could get our drinks. He didn't remember what we ordered and we had to restate Iced Tea and Coke. Drinks finally came, i also had to request a refill, pet peeve is waiter not noticing your drink is empty. When meals came out, I did ask then if bread could be served for the table. He did retrieve quickly enough. Then he disappeared, but did return once to check if everything came out OK. As far as the food and kitchen, I'll start with the worst and then return to the best. Caesar salad was BELOW mediocre and the quality and value was robbery! I added protein of chicken tenders for additional fee. It was a joke. 1 tender cut up to try and hide the small portion, AND this is served in what I consider deceptive plating. They utilize a large plate with wide brim and a slight indentation for a "bowl". I took the "taco topping diced" Romaine and pushed it together rather than their spread out masking for the customers eye to appear as if there is more in the plate than actual and I guarantee there was only a cup of lettuce there, IF that. Yes, the least expensive ingredient in a salad and I got basically a starter salad with hardly any dressing, so it lacked flavor, basically I had a cup of $22 lettuce for dinner and left hungry, disappointed and let down. So if you compare the amount of tenders in the platter my husband had vs my 1 measley tender they charged $7 extra for, they could have put more than 1 in my salad. At that rate, the tender platter of 6 tenders at $7/each should be $42 plus he got fries and Cole slaw for the BEST bargain ever of $24 (or price per tender of less than $4/each). Again, I feel robbed! But now I know. Then to add to the misery, old bread was served. They tried the trick of taking stale bread and microwaving to soften, only problem with that is it turns into a brick in 5 minutes which it was just a huge crouton, by time I tried to get a 2nd slice. And resulted in abrasion of my gums trying to bite it, again I was SO hungry!!! Now for the GOOD portion of my review as there were redeaming entrees: their chicken tenders are one of THE BEST in this area we have found recently. They were cooked correctly, not overly breaded and chicken was moist and tender. Great portion for the price and fries were real and not the formed type with good flavor, nicely salted and no need for ketchup type fries. Coleslaw is not my husband's favorite, he said it was ok, I tried it and liked. My Friend who needs gluten-free options had her requests met without issue, AND she also has a corn allergy. Knowing some gluten-free buns are corn based, she requested "no bun." I did not realize gluten is in oils fries are cooked in, and she knew GrillMarx has gluten-free preparations for fries. Good thing for those who need this option to know. Her chicken, avocado and bacon sandwich (less the bun) was delicious with plenty of bacon, good portion of chicken which was moist and tender. We decided to have a dinner out after a fairly stressful week, and wanted to try a new spot. GrillMarx in Olney was a perfect fit for that. I was a little worried, as it seems to have a pretty low rating, but it's a perfect five from me. Their drink menu is creative, with a lot of different, fun drinks on it. I went with a raspberry bourbon smash, which was fruity and strong with the bourbon -- a nice, smokey flavour that complimented everything else well. We had a dozen oysters -- I was a little sad that they had three types and wouldn't do 4/4/4, only 6/6, so we didn't get to try them all, but no big. They were fresh, and really well shucked -- no bits of shell or anchored oysters here. I didn't particularly care for the mignonette that came with them honestly, but the oysters didn't need it at all. Price was right on, at about $3 an oyster, which is pretty typical for good, shucked oysters in a restaurant. I followed it up with the boneless ribeye and a baked potato. The ribeye was perfectly rare, with great flavour. I got it with mushrooms and bleu cheese, which were fantastic -- I kind of regret the bleu cheese, as the steak was good enough to not warrant it. I saw a lot of the negative reviews mentioning price, and yea, it was an expensive dinner, but it's a steakhouse and raw bar. Frankly, you're going to pay nearly this much at Outback, and GrillMarx was a whole lot better. I was a little off-put by the Maitre D' when we walked in. She was texting on her phone, and looked annoyed to be interrupted -- even the woman who actually seated us seemed a bit offended on our behalf. The rest of the night more than made up for it. My only other possible negative -- for a restaurant with "raw bar" in the name, they don't have much in the way of "raw;" it's "Market Price Assorted Oysters" or nothing. I'd like to be able to order varieties of oysters as I'd like, to have a bit more variety, and see some other good raw seafood on the menu -- clams anyone? read more

I ordered the prime rib with sautéed spinach and my fiancé ordered the ribeye with a baked potato. The prime rib was perfectly cooked to medium rare and came with the rib, which added for some extra meat. The spinach was also nice, with a lot of sautéed garlic. I snuck a bite of the ribeye, which also had blue cheese and sautéed mushrooms. It was a great combination and the ribeye was perfectly cooked. The baked potato it came with was plain, but the server brought him a tray of toppings - butter, chives, sour cream, cheese, and bacon! Other reviews mentioned that it's expensive. Yes, that's true. Service is hit or miss tonight was quiet disappointing, when our server came to our table did not introduce himself saw me and my 5 year old and just seemed like he was like here we go, felt pre judgement and the whole experience was very distant and not welcoming and it hurts because food is amazing, And I understand I manage a restaurant so I understand employees can have bad days but we always tip 20% or more and really wished for more. The ambience is lovely but can be quite loud in the dining room. The food is good but the portions small for the price. I wish just once I could get piping hot soup here. It is always lukewarm. We are there Friday, March 7th. I got food poisoning 6 hours after having dinner there. Salad, Kona ribeye, and mashed potatoes.
