Coconut iced latte & iced caramel macchiato
    Serena W.

Went for breakfast, got the avocado sandwich and steak sandwich along with the iced caramel macchiato. Everything was excellent. Fresh ingredients and beverages made to order. Interior decorations make you feel like you stepped into a lodge in the mainland. The husband/wife duo that runs the cafe are kind, attentive and professional. I stick by my first impression that it's not conducive to working remotely but changed my mind about the establishment itself after trying the food & drinks and put it on my list of indulgent coffee shops when I'm feeling a lil extra. Would recommend this place for anyone looking for a quick, tasty bite and caffeine kick.

Vanilla mocha and avocado steak sandwich

I've always seen this place when I would go to Jagalchi and been wanting to try it out because it looks like such a cute and cozy spot! I ordered a vanilla mocha latte and the avocado steak sandwich. The vanilla mocha latte was pretty good, a little on the sweeter side but I still enjoyed it. I was impressed by the sandwich though because of how huge it was with a big piece of steak and lots of avocado! There was like half of an avocado on each half. It even came with a bag of Lay's chips and baked potato wedges. I didn't really care for the potato wedges since it was very plain with no seasoning and didn't have a crisp to it. It was nice to have something a lil extra on the side though to try. The prices were good/decent especially for the amount of food you get. Our order came out fairly quickly and the workers were friendly. My friend and I agreed that this was such a cute spot and we loved the vibes of it!

Hidden Gem Alert! I stumbled upon this super cute, chic coffee shop tucked away in a spot I've passed countless times--who knew such a cozy haven was hiding there? Drinks: I tried three drinks (yes, three!) and each one had its own vibe: - Iced Matcha Latte with oat milk: Smooth, earthy, and refreshingly not sweet. Loved that they offer soy and oat milk options. - Peach Iced Tea: A bit sweeter than the matcha, with a lovely peach flavor that wasn't overpowering. - Peach Soda: Same flavor profile as the tea, but with a bubbly twist. Super refreshing! Food: I went for the potato salami sandwich--yes, potato in a sandwich. Sounds odd, but it totally worked. The flavors were subtle and oddly nostalgic (gave me Japan vibes!). It came on two small buns, which made it perfect for sharing--my husband and I each had one. The side salad and two potato pieces were a nice touch. Ambience: From the outside, you'd never guess how charming this place is. There's plenty of parking right in front and more to the side. Inside, it's all warm, homey vibes--definitely a spot I could see myself hanging out with friends over coffee. There's even an upstairs seating area I plan to check out next time. Service: The couple running the shop was so sweet. When I was juggling three drinks, the gentleman helped me out, held the door, and even bowed as I left. That kind of kindness sticks with you. Final Thoughts: Everything about this coffee shop impressed me--from the thoughtful drinks to the relaxing atmosphere and kind service. I'll absolutely be back!

Food & smoothies were served right away! Smoothies & sandwich tasted flavorful & healthy. The owners were really friendly. The upper level where I sat was very clean, cozy, & aesthetically appealing. Overall, I would visit this cafe again!

It's been a minute since I have been here. Luckily not much has changed! They still have some of my favorite sandwiches. I got the mixed avocado with salad and tea. The sandwich has so much flavor and is very unique. This is one of the cutest hidden cafes on the island. It's an unassuming mom and pop run Korean sandwich and tea/coffee cafe. The owners are really nice and the cafe itself is very relaxing and homey. If you are ever in the area be sure to stop by!

My favorite coffee shop in the neighborhood! The food is simple and delicious, and the coffee is always great. Cozy space to hang out and write in a journal- they don't have WiFi! Adds to the charm, in my opinion. The music never fails to add a smile to my face.

Spero Spera continues to offer quality customer service, food and drink! Plenty of seating, very clean and surprisingly spacious! Sandwiches are made with love. Iced teas and coffees are refreshing!

    Caramel Macchiato

Adorable mom and pop coffee shop with a nice ambiance to sit and chat. Options for food and coffee. Sandwiches were very nicely toasted on bread (the steak sandwiches are on two individually toasted breads), and come with a choice of potatoes and chips or potatoes and salad. The potatoes were lightly seasoned with rosemary. The steak and avocado sandwich had a rich seasoning to it, and the steak pieces are thick, with mozzarella oozing out. Coffee was well made and had a rich flavor, caramel macchiato is not too sweet, which I appreciated. Not a spot for working or hanging out, as there is no wifi and a 2 hour max on seating. Parking is in the lot out front.

    Acai Bowl, Avocado Steak sandwich

This place has so much aesthetics. Eating here feels so cozy and homey. 10/10 would come here just for the vibes but the acai bowl and avocado steak sandwich make it an 11/10. The workers are so sweet here and so accommodating.

We stopped into Spero Spera with a couple of friends on their recommendation for lunch, and it is a cute little cafe tucked into a random corner that appears to be run by a lovely Korean couple (which was surprising to me, given that I figured the cafe name was Italian, LOL). I got the Vegetarian Sandwich, and when I asked about whether there was mayonnaise etc. in it (I have an egg allergy), the gentleman at the counter told me that the menu on the board lists everything that goes into the sandwiches, so that's handy to know. The baked potatoes were done just right, and the sandwich was good. I also got the peach iced tea thinking it wouldn't be that sweet (would have liked an iced unsweetened option), but it was a bit too sweet for me. My husband got the Garlic Steak Sandwich, and perplexingly got it with the potatoes even though he doesn't like potatoes, LOL (he ate one and left the rest behind... I considered snagging them because they were creamy and well done, but knew I should save room for shave ice later). He also got the coffee smoothie and really loved that (I tried a sip and it was quite good). Friends got the Avocado Lover and Grilled Cheese & Tomato Bisque, which were apparently their usuals. The service was friendly, if a bit surprised by me asking questions regarding my allergy and how sweet the iced tea was (they told me it was normal sweetness, LOL). Sandwiches came out pretty fast, as well. The location itself is cute and has seating on the ground floor and second floor (or loft?), but we sat on the first floor near the ordering table so I didn't really see the upper level. It's not necessarily something to write home about, but it's a good cafe and I could see myself going back if we're in the area again.

Spero and Spera are so cute and they're such great host/hostess and their food is always fresh and inviting. It's never noisy even when there's a small group (they have an upstairs, too) and they have tennis balls underneath the legs of the chairs so they don't scratch the floor. Isn't that clever!? Will be back again for sure.

Grilled cheese sandwich with tomato bisque
    Ryan S.

I went back for a second time in a week and had the tomato bisque with grilled cheese sandwich and they didn't disappoint me. Food came out quick and got served to me because I ate there for lunch.

Walking into this place, is beautiful!!! Very relaxing and clean! The man and woman working is so kind! They played with my son and also gave us little yogurt drinks after we finished eating. I love the customer service here! I appreciate how put together the food was and presented to us very nicely. In the mixed avocado the sauce used compliments the veggies!! Highly recommend!!!!!

Even though they mixed up the custard one, the other flavors were great. The service was faster at the main bakery. I learned that they also serve coffee so next time I'll head there and try the coffee too. Totally recommend going and trying all the flavors if you can. Heads up that there is no seating so prepare to pick up and go. Also, the parking lot is pretty small so I recommend parking in the Safeway parking lot across the street. It's a mini shopping center so should be okay to park at for a quick stop.

However, there are many alternative malasada purveyors throughout Honolulu, so I depended on local vloggers to find the best ones. This one popped up often on YouTube, and as luck would have it, we were dining at The Pig & The Lady on the next block. How calorifically convenient. We took the opportunity to stop by for a pre-dinner snack since they closed at 6PM. It's a cute shop with multiple sweets including quite a selection of housemade ice cream and delectable mouthfuls called Cake Bombs (Photo 10). We decided we would be good and ordered one unfilled Malasada each. Dusted with various sugar flavors, they were just $2.65 a piece. I went for the Coffee, while Jamie chose the daily special, Cinnamon (Photo 6). They were soft and tasty, quite comparable to Leonard's albeit a tad smaller. That wasn't necessarily a bad thing since we had dinner ahead of us. However, we let temptation get the best of us and shared a $5.50 slice of the Ube Haupia Mac Nut Bar, a yummy combination of sweet potato and ube topped with haupia (coconut milk pudding) on a macadamia nut crust (Photo 9). Truth be told, it stole the show from the malasadas. The location itself was free of insects despite being on a ground floor location with sugary desserts everywhere. Meh: The $14 (including 15% tip) dessert tasted too light and ice-like and appeared more translucent (rather than opaque white) than expected, leading me to think the milk was watered down, which may be how the establishment can make up the cost for the portion size while maintaining a spot in Ala Moana, especially given milk prices in Hawai'i, even if you're buying from Costco or direct from farmers. Also, tables were not cleaned after each party departed; that transparent puddle on your table might not be condensation and may instead be drool drops from the toddler who sat there before you. Overall: Good (not outstanding) experience. Knocked off 2 stars for combination of suspected diluted milk + unclean tables.

Every morning, without fail, people gathered outside waiting patiently for pastries. No flashy signs. No gimmicks. Just quiet consistency. That alone intrigued me. By the second day, my mind was made up. I'm an early riser, so the plan was simple: go on my usual morning run and arrive before the rush. Japanese culture and craftsmanship have long fascinated me. Through close friends with family roots tracing back to Japan, I've developed a deep appreciation for the culture -- the discipline, the rituals, the precision, and the respect for process. There's a beauty in the intentional pace at which things are done. Nothing rushed. Nothing careless. This bakery embodied that philosophy perfectly. The space itself was small, modest, and aromatic. No overdesigned interiors. No influencer bait. Just the comforting smell of fresh bread and butter hanging in the air. Some bakeries hide behind elaborate architecture and presentation, but this place understood something more important: when the product is exceptional, the product becomes the attraction. The pastries ranged from playful and charming to elegant and refined. The Salt & Butter bread was an instant staple -- savory, warm, and impossibly light. The dough practically dissolved like air. Thankfully, nothing felt overly heavy, because I completely lost control of my ordering strategy. The Kobo Kuma -- a soft bear-shaped bun filled with homemade vanilla bean custard -- was perfection. Equal parts cute and comforting. The Cinnamon Roll was solid, but the Haupia pastry completely stole the show. For those unfamiliar, Haupia is a traditional Hawaiian coconut pudding found throughout Polynesia. The flavor here was subtle yet lingering, delicate without disappearing. The kind of flavor that quietly stays with you long after the last bite. Then came the Blueberry Danish -- beautiful, buttery, and perfectly sweet. I didn't even make it to the savory options this time, which honestly just gives me another reason to return. And I absolutely will -- whether back here in Hawaii or perhaps at one of their mainland locations in Los Angeles. Some places become popular because of hype. Others because of quality. This bakery earned its line.
