I really enjoyed all the things they had to offer and it was lots of interesting things and the staff was very helpful. I bought some things and it was a very hot day and wanted an ice tea. They only had one flavor and you cannot get any iced tea you want to try which was a real let down. I went with what they had which was a a chestnut herbal tea and it was not good at all. Tasted kind of like iced charcoal. Really wish they would let you try something you are interested in or had maybe something more popular than a chestnut tea kind of made me think maybe they iced stuff that didn't sell. read more

Adorable little spice and tea shop right off Hypolita Street. Be warned: if you have a sensitive nose, this place might be a bit overwhelming. If you have issues, they offer benches outside to sit on while you wait for the more adventurous. Otherwise, it's a great store to peruse the many herbs, spices, teas and accessories that line the walls. The prices are very reasonable. There's plenty of grinders, tea accessories, gift ideas, and unique specialty items besides the teas, spices, flavored salts and bulk offerings. And they offer beautiful gift bags & packages. This is a locally owned store and the staff is friendly and helpful. The owner even helped my dad choose a nice blend he personally recommended. That's proper customer service, IMO. Overall, this business offers unique items and spice blends for that at-home chef to season fish, poultry, beef, pork and homemade dishes. Definitely worth taking a peak inside. read more

I first fell in love with the Spice and Tea Exchange when they started selling their products at Disney Springs. Every time I am in St.Augustine I stop here. The greek seasoning is THE BEST. Powdered feta, what?! Amazing on everything from veggies to meats to salad dressing. I also love the tandori spice. I am like a kid in a candy store here! This place is wonderful! I have been looking for a place that sells Chaga tea. Although they no longer carry it in the store we are able to order some. I also love local honey, especially when it is infused with lavender. Perfect spot to buy some! There is such a variety of sugars, spices, and teas. This Spice and Tea Exchange location is the flagship store for which all others in the franchise are based. It's been on my radar since I meandered into the Disney Springs store last April. These stores have an amazing array of teas, salts, sugars, peppers/peppercorns, and herbs. You can actually make your own spice and tea blends, and probably make your own talismans, if you are of a Pagan persuasion, if they have the herbs you require. Since April, I've become enamored with this peppercorn mix that contains 4 different kinds of peppercorns (black, white, green, and pink pepperberry). It's better than any pepper that I've had. I'm getting close to the end of my bag, so I needed to get a refill. I, also, have become a bit attached to Herbs de Provence and wanted to grab some to have on hand at home. I didn't partake in any of the store's homemade tea blends back in April, as I was at Disney and found an awesome Alice in Wonderland tea variety pack that I splurged on. So on this trip, I made a point to find a few teas, of which I liked the smell, to buy and try. I selected 3 new ones to include Mystic Dragon Tea (blend of Japanese Sencha and Chinese Dragonwell), Iron Goddess of Mercy, and International Breakfast Tea. It's funny, to me, that I erred a bit more towards green teas. I typically lean towards more berry or hibiscus-based teas. Tazo's Passion Tea blend is right up my alley, for example. I love that the store uses 1 oz size ziplocs for most everything, as you don't have to commit so hard to one tea, spice, sugar, pepper, etc., especially if it turns out that you don't really care for it. This location has a bit less when it comes to kitchen accessories and the like, but I saw a few teapots that I wouldn't mind taking home, as well as an electric kettle. I'm very glad to have finally found the location of this store, as it saves me a 6 hr round trip to Orlando. The staff was excellent, and answered my questions to the best of their ability. Maybe the next time I go in, I'll have my own tea blend ready to put together and take home. read more

I have only been to the store in Portland, Oregon but I purchase all of my unique spices from the St. Augustine main HQ. I have been regularly purchasing amazing spices from here for a year and a half. I particularly LOVE the Morroccan blend which I use primarily as a lamb rub for tagines. I also worship the black truffle sea salt :) Some of my other favorites include the sweet onion sugar, coconut flake powder, jalepeno salt, and lime coconut smoked sea salt. I hope one day to visit the main store but this place is desperately needed in Las Vegas. Until I can visit a storefront I will continue to shop via the Internet because it is easy and fast. I wandered by the Spice and Tea Exchange on a recent visit to St. Augustine and was thrilled that even though the sign on the door indicated that they had not yet opened, the proprietor let me in for some early spice shopping! The Spice and Tea Exchange is located in a quaint, rustic, wooden building and very much reminded me of the shops that I used to visit when I was growing up to the north of Boston, Massachusetts. The building really is conducive to buying teas, spices and anything that might have once been an expensive import from the Spice Islands. The proprietor was very helpful and friendly. He made it easy to find about half a dozen things that I had not planned to purchase but which became essential after I sniffed the aromas coming from the various jars that he opened. Indeed, we have already run out of the blackening spice that he recommended for fish and will soon have to order more. When in St. Augustine, Spice and Tea Exchange is a must-visit place for foodies. I came in here looking for a Mother's Day gift and ended up buying more things for myself than my mom. Oh well. This store was incredible when it comes to spices. The store is divided into different sections and all of the spices are visible to see and available to smell. I could have spent hours in here, but I picked out a handful of spices and got out of there before I spent a fortune. The employee behind the counter was extremely helpful and made herself available to any questions that I had. I was looking for a specific spice and she gave me her recommendation on the closest one that they had to it. It seems as if the spices are made in small batches and the price points really aren't too bad. Smaller bags consisting of 1 ounce run just over $5. One ounce doesn't seem like much, but you don't need a lot and they last for a while. The employees were nice, the selection was terrific and this is just a unique place that you don't see too often. read more

My father bought me a couple of spices from this company that need to be ground up to use and that have a grinder on the top of them. Both grinders broke the first time I used them and the second one sliced up BOTH of my hands pretty badly when it broke. It didn't slice them up badly enough to need stitches, but I needed band aides. Just avoid this company unless you have your own grinder to grind up their spices. Otherwise your hands will end up like mine. read more

Great stop in St. Augustine, especially on a rainy day. You get to actually smell all the spices, and find high quality spices and teas, and also interesting blends... and the staff is very friendly. My husband is a vegetarian, so spices are a big factor in my cooking... and am hooked on the Berber blend. I LOVE this store. I really miss being able to drive to SA and navigate the tourist traffic just to go to my favorite store there. The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable, they helped me out many times and I'm sure they had way more knowledge to share than I would ever need (I'm definitely not a chef!). My favorites are the rubs, specifically the Teriyaki Ginger rub, and the different rices they sell. I'm always trying out new rices with different dishes to see what goes best with what foods, my fave is the Himalayan. The labels on the bags help with that as well. I'm a tea addict and went into the Spice and Tea Exchange to see what teas they had I wanted to try, but it was the giant wall of salts that held my attention. I went in for a couple of teas and ended up walking out with 3 teas, 6 salts, and 4 spice blends. This shop is dangerous to my bank account but I don't regret any of my purchases. Kudos also to shop owner Colleen, who was friendly and helpful without being pushy. My only caveat? I wish the S&TE had squeezes in a couple of small tables with chairs and sold some of their teas brewed on the premises. It's a cozy, warm shop and I would've loved to enjoy a nice cup of tea while people watching. read more

Love. Love. Love this place so many times over. If you are looking for fresh spices this is the place for you. It's fairly small inside and when we were there there was only one woman working but I was determined to get some spices. They have everything you could want and they also make blends you can purchase. The blends can be kind of pricey but worth it if you've found one you love. I've never seen so many different kinds of salt too, that was pretty cool. They also had tea (the main reason I went) but it was priced more then what I was willing to pay. I also found ideas for spice racks (we live on a sailboat and space is limited) that I've never thought of and will totally work great. Oh and they had a small bag of sticky rice which I had one time and loved so I'm excited to try. The really nice thing is that they ship! They have a wide variety of lovely teas; looseleaf, organic, matcha, etc. The spices are all the best quality and they have a lot of sets that make great gifts. They have teacups and teapots as well, and you can purchase many other tea accessories like spoons, infusers, and storage tins. My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this gem after a day of shopping on Hypolita St. I really love the assortment of teas, spices, and salts they have. Some of the salts were a bit pricey but the packaging and contents were all high quality and I definitely wouldn't mind spending a little extra to enjoy them. We decided upon three different tea blends, which was the Mystic Dragon, Berry White Tea blend, and the Tahitian Nectar which all taste and smell amazing! The tea bags that come pre-portioned were relatively inexpensive and each bag gets around 8-10 steepings. We will definitely stop by again the next time we are by downtown! Also, make sure you check out their spice collection. They have ground spices, whole seeds, mixed varieties, and all types of spices for all varieties of cooking styles. read more

I love this store! There are many different types of spices, rubs, sugars, and teas. Some of my favorites are Bakers Blend, Cinnabar rub, and Coconut sugar. This place is really neat. They have a decent assortment of teas and spice blends. We went to both locations in one day. The downtown one has been around longer I think. They seem to have a little bit more to choose from as far as single herbs and spices goes, but the blends are available at both locations. It's fun to just walk around smelling the different blends. The workers seem very knowledgable. We listed several specific spices and teas we like, and they immediately walked to the wall and started pulling down canisters for us to smell. Warning: the more you smell, the more you will buy! They have discount deals for buying 3 or more bags. They also have several odds and ends items like spice grinders, tea steeping balls, mortar and pestle sets, and other little gift items. LOVE this place. I've been here a few times and every time I end up coming back home with some high quality spices to play with. I remember walking in the first time on a whim because I was looking for cardamom so I could make some chai at home (just had chai from the bunnery a few minutes before), and this place delivered. I love how I can just grab a little of this and a little of that... only what I need. The quality is much, much better than if I'd bought it from McCormick or any other brand spice in the stores. I just got into tea and have Teavanna as my primary source of loose teas. I am rightly switching over to the Exchange! Will be ordering from them. Amazing. Especially the Cinnamon Plum tea that I need in bulk. The set up in old style apothecary and the hostess was very knowledgeable. Wish they had the rock sugar or sweetener. I visited the St Augustine Spice and Tea Exchange last October while on vacation there. I am not a big tea drinker, but love to cook. The selection of spices and rubs was awesome. Its a cute little shop down by the Restoration area. I could have spent hours in there but my parking meter was running down. When I got home I ordered more stuff from them online. Love the Bloody Mary Mix and the chili mix with the St Augustine datil pepper in it. Lots of cool gifts for the great cooks in your life. read more
