Despite forgetting to capture the egg rolls, the wings were captured and enjoyed--they were flavorful with a mild spice and a complementary sauce. On the positive side, this spot has a ton of potential. There is a neon light that says "taste of the islands" and they have an opportunity to give the customers a genuine, authentic Caribbean meal. I ordered the Rasta pasta and paid extra to add chicken. The pasta was served cold, the sauce was watery, and for the extra money, I received a small piece of chicken that wasn't proportional to the serving size of the plate. I asked if I could get something else and my only option was to microwave the food. The microwave didn't help the sauce and overall it wasn't a good experience. A friend tried to switch out one of her sides and they said no... you have to simply purchase an extra side. Oh almost forgot to mention, they block off the parking spaces in the front of the restaurant and charge people $20 to park. It almost makes you want to turn around. Since it's a restaurant, I strongly believe you should be able to park for free. I came in to watch a basketball game at the bar on a Sunday afternoon. Their menu features brunch from 11A-4P, after 4P it's dinner menu only. They also have hookah. It was after 4P when I arrived and they still had a DJ playing; the music was too loud to have conversation. There were people dancing and enjoying themselves. It took awhile for a bartender to acknowledge and take my order. I ordered the Rasta pasta with jerk shrimp. The pasta itself was $14 and the shrimp add on was $9; it came with 5 medium-sized shrimp. As I sat and waited for my food, I realized it was kind of warm inside of the establishment. Definitely expected the AC to be blowing with 80 degree weather outside. This is a great place for a date, solo outing, family/ friends outing as well as a birthday celebration. The DJ is phenomenal. No complaints from the music he played. Our waitress was exceptional. Fast and polite. As for the food, I ordered the Lobster & Shrimp Mac ($31.95). For it to be a large party the food came out very fast and hot. The entire entree was delicious. The portion size isn't huge but it definitely gets the job done. The Mac was hot and cheesy and also rich in flavor. I can tell it was cooked with love. There was about 5-6 pieces of shrimp mixed in with the tail and the lobster was crunchy and seasoned to perfection but it's definitely small. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal however. Heads-up! If you're in a group or large party be expected to have one person pay for the table or 1 person per table depending on how many people are attendance. I ordered two Remy margaritas and got the surprise of the night when TWO drinks came up to $44. They charge $12 for the margarita and $10 for a shot of Remy. This is the most ridiculous up charge for a margarita in a plastic 12oz cup. I've been to restaurants where they have glasses, do a $3 up charge, and have their FULL menu available, but $10 is highway robbery for you all not to let patrons know your shiesty business practices. I had the egg rolls and two drinks for $80. $80?!!! I am going to blast you all everywhere because that doesn't make any sense. This is why Black businesses have a difficult time remaining open. Knowing that ahead of time would've expected the person in my party's decision to get that entree. The waitress was dismissive about the person's disappointment and then spoke of her others options with a sharp tone. I finally made it to spice house. I like this location because it's in a plaza so you don't have to wait for valet or have an issue finding parks. The customer service here was great; everyone is continuously checking on us, weather it's my waitress, the hookah girl, or jus a random worker in passing. There was a DJ while i was here, and they played good throwback R&B music. Hookah is available as well. the pricing here is medium range. now on to the food. i had oxtails, rice and peas, cabbage, and plantain. the food was really good and came out super fast after we ordered but jus not hot upon arrival to the table. The customer service can be extremely lacking here. There doesn't seem to be good communication and work flow between the hostess and the servers as far as servers being made aware they have a new table in their section. And customer service will never get better if this place continues to employ managers that, instead of scanning for customers that look like they need assistance, they just walk around and look one way, and run their mouth to customers about things not related to drinks or food. This was my first time going. I love supporting black owned businesses as much as I can but the food was way overpriced. The wings I ordered were great, however I only ordered a ten piece wings to go and the price was $28. No drink or fries. Thought it was kind of a rip-off. This is the old blue room lounge location & upon my first visit i was pleased on how well they revamped the place. The girls bathroom ended up being shut down early in the night because toilets kept overflowing which tells me the owner might have bitten off more than they can chew. Appearance wise I can tell they put in a lot of money into the design and the furniture is beautiful. I decided to do brunch here yesterday which was a Sunday with a close friend. We arrived at 1:15pm and they were not busy at all (8 customers max). We weren't greeted upon entry. Whoever did pass us was mumbling so it was hard to understand. We decided to seat ourselves and was approached by one server but then the bartender walks up and says "i got this" and takes our order instead. Everything started off ok. I ordered the crab cake and hash my friend got the jerk chicken egg rolls and salmon omelet (which didn't have any cheese). We also ordered "bottomless mimosas". My food was on the verge of going cold by the time it arrived and the menu did not mention that it was sweet potatoes being used for the hash and i don't eat those so it was a waste. Food was appetizer sized but entree priced. Regardless of the small portions and the low temperature of the food once it arrived the Crab cakes were delicious. Jerk chicken egg rolls also need some work. There is more cabbage than there is chicken so my friend didn't really enjoy it and didn't eat it. The bottomless mimosas were nonexistent because we literally had to keep going out of our way asking for refills and literally only got 2 mimosas the whole time we was there. Once we got our food the server no longer cared to serve us. We was never given any napkins and i had to use my friends dirty napkin once we were neglected. One server came over and i was thinking they could at least help her coworker out by relaying her the message that we weren't being serviced but she clearly could care less. The sever was only concerned with telling us that the hookah girl had just arrived and asked if we wanted hookah service and we declined. The hookah girl still came over and asked if we wanted hookah, we kindly declined again and asked for her to tell our server to please give us another mimosa. Hookah girl didn't help us out either. I look over and there was a table of 6 getting their service they even had a big ass bottomless mimosa drink dispenser on their table while my friend and I literally was sitting there with empty wine glasses and dirty plates for well over a half an hour. After long stares across the room at who was supposed to be our server she never once looked over to our table. I could see if they were packed and busy but trust and believe me THEY WEREN'T. I get up, do her job for her, and approached the bar expressing that we would like to please get one more mimosa and to please get our checks. The server looked startled like she didn't know what was going on. I sit back down and wait for her to do her job and she still had us waiting not one mimosa was being made. At 2:46 pm My friend and i ended up leaving the establishment out of pure frustration. I haven't received service that bad ever in my life. I am a huge foodie and a huge supporter of black businesses when it's being done correctly but this one ain't it. Y'all need to have a staff meeting and learn how to operate as a team. Our waitress was really sweet. BUT we waited for about an hour for our food. And my plate came 20 minutes after everyone else and my food was cold. We got there at 1:30pm today, and it was empty maybe 3 tables being used in the large space and the bartender told us to sit where we wanted. Shortly after the waitress came and gave us the menu and asked for our drinks, we told her. Then it all went downhill after that. We ordered two Spice House Omelets $11.95, and added Salmon for $5 and I add a side of turkey bacon for $2.95 and a passion lemonade $4.00. For the appetizer I ordered the Spiced jerk chicken egg rolls $8.95. Veggie egg rolls were also an option but I wanted chicken. The waitress Tracy I think her name was, had to be on her first day. She brings out the egg rolls missing one and says she dropped it on the floor bringing it out from the kitchen to our table and is having it remade. No problem, glad she didn't just pick it up and put it back on the plate! So I was fine with that and the egg rolls were really good. They had barely any jerk taste/spice and little to no chicken, they were more like, and probably were, the veggie egg rolls but they were good, so fine, small cheat. After 10 mins, the new egg roll comes out, we eat it. 10 mins after that she brings out my turkey bacon alone, fine, it's apart of my meal but whatever. I eat it so it doesn't get cold waiting for the omelet. 10 mins after that she brings out my omelet. The Spice House Omelet is suppose to contain seasoned chicken breast, bell peppers, onions, tomatoes, mushrooms, mixed cheeses and be topped with creole sauce served with creamy grits. She brought me out grits and an egg with cheese. I told her this is not what I ordered. She then takes it back and says "the cook didn't know, he is remaking it". Excuse me, I literally gave you my order off your own menu then showed you the menu. Ok, fine. Remember the $5 salmon I added, she brings that out alone! Miss, all of this is to go with my meal at once, not piece-milled together. I let the salmon sit there and be cold because I ordered it as an ADDITION to my omelet not an appetizer to eat alone on a plate. 10 mins after that here comes the omelet still wrong, no mixed cheeses, no mushroom, and most important, no chicken! What are we even do here? At that point I was not going to send it back a second time, too risky, so I ate it. All in all the food did not taste bad, but the experience was awful because they orders could not get right and I paid full price for a partial meal. My friends order, also very wrong. The place it is really nice. Has the service been better, I would be a regular. The music was good, nice nice vibe, but I would not be hard pressed to run back to this place to eat. We literally were the last people, party of two, to walk in for 2 hrs. There was only one guest in there when we left. Went here on a date with my boyfriend on a Thursday night. We were surprised it was not that many ppl there on such a big football game night. We were sat immediately when we walked in and the waitress came to take drink our order. We ordered the Spice Gyal and I forgot what the signature cocktail name with Hennessy was called. But that drink too. Both were really good and tasted like a seasoned bar tender made it. We also ordered the Spice House wings as an appetizer, we got half jerk and half garlic herb. Both were good however we both liked the garlic herb the most. I had the Lamb chops with the garlic herb flavor. They were good just really small for the price. A lower price seems more ideal or they should purchase larger chops. They could even just give you more of the smaller chops so that it feels efficient. My date got the oxtails dinner with rice and extra sauce which he really enjoyed. To our surprise there was a comedy show which was funny and entertaining. I'd definitely come back on a Thursday again for a few laughs and some more good eating. The ambiance is everything. This is a great spot for a date, brunch or birthday.
