The food and service here are outstanding. This is my favorite Indian restaurant. The waiters have patiently answered our questions about dishes, and have also recommended various items to us based on our preferences/desire to try new things. We liked the suggestion to order one cream based dish and one dish without cream. The two complement one another nicely bc when your mouth is on fire, you can cool it down with the creamy dish and some garlic naan. :) Our favorites include the chicken vindaloo, korma, tikka masala, and naan. We have yet to try something that we don't like though! Another stellar thing about this place is that there is no corking fee for beer or wine. Whaaaaat? Went to this place last Friday with friends. We were a group of six. The wait staff was courteous and we were immediately seated. The 'Sheekh Kabob' and 'Chilli Chicken' appetizers were exceptionally tasty.. authentic Indian style. One other appetizer was the 'Cut Mirchi' which was the best I've ever had. In entrées, I really loved the 'Kadai Chicken' and the 'Gongura Goat Curry' which is not often available at all Indian restaurants. Last but not the least, every Indian's favorite, the 'Biryani', was fantabulous!! This place has exceeded my expectations. It's a small place in a strip mall, doesnt look fancy or ostentatious. But the food is excellent. Whenever I goto any Indian place, the one thing I'm on a lookout for is some unique flavor on a dish. I'm just tired of the same old generic flavors you find in every other Indian place. I like this place cuz it delivers a wide variety of flavors, and the ginger chicken is particularly so good that I keep coming back here for it. They also have a biryani family pack kind of deal, which is pretty decent. I only wish they wouldnt water down the curry that comes with it. read more

Ordered take-out here the other day via Yelp. Very good food! We tried three things.... a goat dish, a pepper cheese dish, and a cauliflower dish. All three were fantastic, tasty, and satisfying. I do wish the goat had been prepared boneless though. We will visit again! read more

What a lovely surprise, attentive staff, clean restaurant and the food was really, really good. I've eaten here twice so far a d ordered a variety of very standard south Indian fare that are staples and food they should be a good gauge for the flavor profile of the restaurant since they are specifically a south Indian restaurant. Unfortunately they missed the mark on several areas. Dosas: first time i ordered a plain dosa to go.. which is generally not advisable since dosas don't travel well and you want it to be nice and crispy. The carry out bag for the dosa is a genius idea, the color and texture were great and the lentil soup (sambar) that came along with it was delicious. The coconut chutney had a very weird metallic after taste. The second time I ordered an onion dosa while I ate at the restaurant, this time the dosa came out rather burnt and soggy and the coconut chutney still had the weird after taste. So consistency is an issue. Other items ive tried out are the chicken 65 which is a very popular dry fried appetizer ...but the recipe here was way off. Very heavy handed on the garlic and turmeric where you can taste it and shouldn't be able to. The biryani was average and probably the only thing I would come back for. The restaurant is clean and has space for large groups but parking is very difficult since half the lot is designated for 15 minute parking with signs that stores will tow your car. read more

One day, as my brother and I got done rucking through the Patapsco Park, we decided to get something delicious to eat, preferably something with a high amount of sodium, carbs and protein. At first we wanted to go to Fuddruckers and get a 1 pounder, but they apparently closed down the day before due to taxes or something related. We already went to Royal Taj recently so we sat there... Thinking, contemplating on where to go. Then I remembered I had Spicy N Curry bookmarked on Yelp and suggested it to my brother and we decided to check it out! We went around an hour before they closed. Yeah, usually we don't go that late to any place because we understand their struggle! But when we came in, they greeted us with open arms and smiles that we couldn't leave or else we'd feel guilty. We sat down and wow, the place looks completely different from when Parsa Kabob was around. The place actually looks pleasant. The atmosphere, tables, chairs, the floor and ceilings, they all look well blended and matching. I actually felt like I was in a restaurant. I didn't have any problems with Parsa Kabob, but this did exceed my expectations. We received a menu and I already knew what I was going to get. The Vegetable Thali and the Non-Vegetable Thali with an order of plain Naan and extra rice. My brother decided to get the Goat Gongura. So when our waiter came, I tried to order the Thali, but he informed me that it was served only during lunch. FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF!!!!!!!!!! The ONE AND ONLY dish I wanted was served only during lunch. I was slightly disappointed.... Okay, I was sorely disappointed. 1st world problem? Yep! On a serious note, I was slightly upset, but it didn't deter me from trying out their other dishes. I looked through the menu and though their menu wasn't as extensive as other places, I saw that as a good thing. I saw a dish called Mutton Rogan Josh and it sounded pretty damn good; mutton cooked in creamy yogurt sauce. It sounded good but not spicy. So I asked the waiter if there was a spicy level to this dish and not-to my surprise, there is! I didn't want anything too spicy that night so I just asked for medium. We also ordered 2 plain Naan and 1 extra rice with an order of Vegetable Samosas. My brother wanted to try their Chai Tea but they ran out so he opted for the Mango Lassi. Wow, I'm not sure how good their Chai Tea is but their Mango Lassi was probably the best I've ever had. It was really smooth and creamy, yet not too rich, not too sweet. It had a perfect balance and ratio to the point where I thought for a second they scientifically made the Lassi with extreme precision. We got our main course, but they forgot our Samosas. They did however, give us the Samosas soon after. I just realized how long this review is so i'll try to make things shorter for ya readers! The Mutton Rogan Josh was my favorite dish and even though it was "medium" hot, it was actually HOT! Like, Indian medium hot, not American medium hot. This didn't make me sweat, but my whole body was on FIRE. The flavors were extremely bold and flavorful and they went perfectly with the naan. the naan itself was fantastic as well; no butter, no garlic, no oil, nothing. It was just naan, but super fluffy and slightly crunchy on the outside, perfect for sopping up the thick, creamy sauce. My brother's Goat Gongura was really good as well, but even spicier than the Mutton and the flavors weren't as eye-popping. The Samosas that we received later on were mediocre at best. They came out steaming hot but they tasted like fried oil with a hint of spice. There was nothing special to the rice as well, though I could see why. In the end, aside from the samosas and rice, everything else was superb to say the least. I'm not going to say every detail because this review is already long enough, but their service was truly exceptional and their food ranks among the top 5 on my list of Indian restaurants. read more

I heard about this place opening through Facebook and I thought another Indian restaurant in the Columbia area would be interesting. After reading the reviews I told my husband we should try this place out since It sounds pretty decent so far. The atmosphere was cute, I like how it was simple and not too over-the-top like some Indian restaurants are. The wait staff was also very nice too. For the food - I was not impressed by far. First we were served bendable stale papad. That made me a little nervous about the food to come. We then were served somosas which were still somewhat cold but they were happy to exchange them out for new ones. My husband and I then shared the curry with goat meat and it came with rice as well. I asked for mild but it was still actually very spicy, and the goat meat consisted of mostly bones - barley any meat. The rice was somewhat warm, and the naan by far was the only thing I could really eat. One thing that really bothered me was I felt like the owner (which I believe who this other guy was) was more concerned about making the sale and add-ons than really caring for what we ordered and the quality of the food that he was serving since it didn't really phase him that the papad was stale and the somosas were cold... which was kind of irritating in a way. Needless-to-saw I was hungry by the time we left since the food was less-than-mediocre. This review is solely towards the food and the quality. Great service. Food was just OK. I'd head to one of the other numerous Indian places in the Columbia area over this one. Chicken Tikka Masala and Lamb Korma were our dishes. Chicken seemed like it was precooked or something.... not tender. Veggie samosas and garlic naan were well done. Lamb was tender and enjoyable, but certainly not better than Royal Taj or Chutney. I came down to Baltimore recently and one of my friends suggested this place. So I thought lemme take a chance. I ordered a non veg thali and it was just outstandelicious! One that felt like mom's homemade awesomeness! The number of items was more than what would be enough to fill a size 36 belly and then the staff was kind enough to offer us some more items that were only part of the vegetarian thali at no extra cost. The rotis were crisp, the curries were perfectly spiced and flavored and the dessert(rice kheer) had the right amount of sweetness. I wish there was a place like this where I lived. I would go there every single day. In the two days I was in Baltimore, I went there twice. That's how much I liked their food. Note to all non-Indians: I am from India, and have been to DC, NY, Jersey, Chicago and a lot more places which have famous restaurants for fine exotic Indian food. But if you wanna eat what an an average Indian eats at home with authentic spices and flavors, this is the place you wanna go to. This new place has wonderful staff and the best authentic Indian food which reminds me of home. HALEEM alert- (must try) This is the only place which serves a Goat Haleem in the DMV area for Ramadan and being a Haleem lover I think they did an exceptional job. Let me start with the appetizers- chilly chicken and chicken 65 are a must try as they melt away in your mouth. If you want to taste some authentic South Indian flavors then you are in the right place and you should definitely try the 'Gongura mutton'. If you have heard good things about 'Biryani' from Hyderabad, India then you should definitely try some here as this is one of the best I've tasted in the area. Really good! Came for lunch and had the Thali with meat ($10). This included 8 small dishes, naan and rice, and they offer to refill any dishes that you want. Everything was hot (unlike buffets) and very flavorful. Probably my favorite Indian option in Columbia now, even over Royal Taj. read more

I've been here twice for dinner after getting a haircut nearby, and I plan on coming back. Food = Super tasty, a bit different menu selection from most of the other Indian places nearby, which is a good thing. One caveat, when the menu says a dish is spicy, it is very very awesomely spicy! Service: Friendly Location: It's one big room filled with tables, so could get noisy if crowded. Nice and clean. The only suggestion I would have is to get some window coverings. The girlfriend and I decided to try someplace new for our Indian fix. We normally frequent Chutney and Royal Taj in Columbia, but decided to try something new. We ordered takeout. Food was ready on time, staff was very polite. The restaurant itself is basic and reminiscent of a cafeteria in regards to ambience - no worries we were doing takeout. The location is sketchy...next to a tattoo & piercing parlor and 2 doors away from what appears to be a "happy endings" type massage parlor. As far as the food goes, highly disappointing.The chicken tiki masala had large chunks of barely cooked onion and green pepper throughout....not at all what I was expecting, I did not like it. The girlfriend had chana masala and said it was the worst she ever had. The garlic naan was pretty good. I am left wondering how this place has so many good reviews?
