I really pays to shop around and get several quotes. Our old R22 ozone poking 2.5 ton condenser gave out on us so we started calling around. We got a wild range of assessments and prices ranging from $1000 for a "refurbished" unit installed by a guy that speaks broken English to $4200 to replace the condenser and evaporator coil by an up-salesman. Finally we called Spicer [pronounced SPICE-ER] and knew we had a winner. Leon came out and was a complete pro. He was friendly and smart and very knowledgeable. He even gave the dog some attention. Whats more he even does the work on site with his team so we have "our guy" from beginning to end. We ended up getting a new ozone loving (410a), 14 seer, 2.5 ton Goodman condenser and evaporator coil installed for $2500 with a 10 year warranty. This is the exact service we were quoted $4200 for by someone else! If you do a bunch of research online you will find that the experts say it more about who installs your HVAC than the brand and the "better names" are mostly just an up-sale tactic. Near as I can tell most of brands have guts made by the same company, Copeland Scroll, anyway. Bottom line: they showed up on time at 7:30 like they said they would and were done by 11:30, charged us a fair price and now we have AC again! Thank YOU!!! read more

At first, I had a very bad experience with this company. But then, they fixed the problem. I was moving into a rental house during a heat wave. The AC wasn't working. I couldn't sleep there. Not good. Not only that, but when I had it turned on, it put out something in the air that irritated my trachea and gave me a sore throat and headache - like cigarette smoke. I had to wait a little more than week for the Spicer tech to come out. He came out. Long story short, they said everything was okay! And when I tried to argue with them over the phone, they kept saying the same thing. And because I was a renter they didn't want to talk with me! So, I argued with the landlord and he got them to come out again. This time the Spicer owner, Chad, who I hadn't dealt with before, came out. He was a much better person to deal with and could see the problem. About 2 weeks later, the whole system was replaced. It works fine. Also, I can breathe now. One of the ducts was crammed full of some kind of junky dusty foam/fiberglass material. But, 1. If my landlord hadn't pushed them to come out again, they wouldn't have come out. 2. They never apologized to me. 3. If I had owned the house they would have treated me better. Typical disrespectful/neglectful/abusive attitude toward renters. So, they get 3 stars. read more

A big thanks for Spicer Mechanical! They called to reschedule an appointment last Friday and said they had a guy out sick. I said anytime this week was ok. We needed our commercial unit serviced because we were moving and our landlord requires a service. So I told them anytime was fine on Monday. Same guy was out sick still. I get a call from the owner, he's going to come service our units. Sure enough the owner shows up, does an incredible job and is done in just over 30 mins. Thats what I call great customer service! We purchased a new HVAC system for our home on 11/20/14 (no ductwork). Leon was recommended to us by a neighbor who recently had a new central air conditioner installed by Spicer Mechanical. After receiving bids from four different contractors, we decided upon Spicer to do the job. We are very pleased with the work they did. They are professional, courteous and thorough. During the installation process, it was pointed out to us there was a problem with our existing drainpipe for the evaporator coil where it joined a bathroom drainpipe. Thinking we would need to have a plumber come out to fix this, Chad with Spicer promptly said he would fix it for us, and did so without even charging us anything extra. When the job was complete, we couldn't even tell any work had been done at our home, inside or out, their cleanup was so detailed. Leon did not engage in any upselling when he first came to our home (on time) to offer a proposal. Spicer Mechanical offers good quality service at reasonable prices. Truely an honest and great company. Our heater was move to attic space by another company 4 years ago and was loud at the return. They came through inspected, extended my return duct, checked for leaks and cleaned up the messy install. We can now run the heater or AC without needing earplugs. All done for a very reasonable price. Others were quoting higher prices and stating more needed to be done. Best decision we made going with them. read more

I can't understand how this company received these positive ratings. I would give negative stars if possible. Spicer performed an inspection on March 7, 2019. A quote was submitted and accepted. I have attempted to book an appointment to for a quote received in March. The parts needed were back ordered. Spicer called in April and proposed having the part special ordered from a different vendor at additional cost. I agreed. Appointment scheduled for May 22. Booked a vacation day. Received an email and a voice mail late on 5/21 that the part was not received. Spicer pushed for reschedule for May 24 because the part would definitely be in on May 23. This was not possible due to my work schedule. Spicer's became really snippy and would not reschedule with a firm time. I booked for May 28 with a window of 9-12. Took another vacation day. I called and left a voice mail on May 23 to confirm. No response. Called at 3:45 on May 24 and Spicer "thinks" the part is in. I ask "thinks" or "it is". Spicer becomes agitated and responds "well I have to call and check-don't know if I can find out this late because it is a holiday week end." Well, yes it is and I have an appointment on booked Tuesday. I need to know if they can keep the appointment. Spicer calls back and no part now but it will be in Tues am so they will come in on Tues afternoon. I spoke with the sale rep- who was upset - because it is a holiday week end. I spoke with the owner and told him how this constant rescheduling is disruptive to my work/family life. I requested a discount for my trouble and lost work time. Owner called back and said I was disturbing him (yes- still the Friday before the holiday week end) and he will not allow customers to make demands. He declines to fulfill the quote. I have requested a written cancellation of the quote as it appears to be a legally binding. read more

My A/C died, so I got the requisite 3 quotes...well, actually 4. The first guy didn't really check out the house before he gave me his price. The second guy only wanted to replace the condenser, even though the rest of the system was 40 years old. The third guy asked questions and offered me 2 options. I probably would have OK hiring him. So what made me choose Spicer Mechanical? Leon was the only one to actually get into the attic and check the ductwork to see if it contained asbestos (it did). He was also the only one to suggest moving the furnace into the attic to create a coat closet (which none of the houses in my neighborhood have). He also had no problem quoting me 5 different options. A couple days after signing the contract Leon and Chad showed up to do a pre-installation inspection and plan. Another 2 days later the asbestos abatement company came and removed the old ductwork. The next day Chad, Leon and Rick showed up early, taped tarps to the floors and went right to work. Had it not been 95° they would have finished in one day, but had to return the following day for 23 hours to complete the job. They installed a new 4T condenser, coil, furnace and all new ductwork and left the house spotless. It has been over a month with temps in the high 90s to low 100s and the new system works like a charm! The condenser is quieter than the neighbor's 4 year old 2T unit. I have run the A/C twice as much as previous years and my electric bill is actually less than with my old system. Haven't needed to try the heater yet, but I can't imagine there will be any problems. Spicer Mechanical is a great family-owned business with solid work ethics. I would recommend them to anyone, not just because they're a good company that does good work, but because they actually get to know your needs before suggesting a solution. read more

Chad and his crew came out to our home and helped up install a zoned system in our new home. The old system had been there for many years and was in desperate need of replacement. The new Daikin system is now moved out of our furnace closet and in the attic where when it is running at full capacity you can not even hear it running. First time dealing with this company, and I was pleased with the service provided by Pedro. Of all the rooms in my house, there was one vent that was not working properly. After checking out the ducts, it was discovered the duct to that room was smaller than all the others, hence the poor circulation of cooler air. Also, the connection between the joints seemed to be leaking air, so Pedro taped it, and now there is slightly more cooler air coming through. He suggested a rebuild of that duct which is a good idea. Good job, Pedro! read more

First off, let me say how difficult it is to find anyone who does residential hydronic heating and cooling in southern california. That being said, look no further. Chad, and his associate Leon, are great, and here's why. Recently my father passed away. My father was an HVAC mechanical engineer. As an engineer, and also a man who loved projects, he designed his own custom hydronic heating system for his residence. Unfortunately, he was not able to finish it before we lost him. After considerable research, I found Spicer Mechanical, and Chad and Leon came out to my mother's house to give her an evaluation of what it would take to finish this custom design. They were both extremely professional, taking extra steps like covering their shoes to avoid tracking anything into the house, and did a full walk through of the system. They did not rush, asked many questions, and treated my mother with a great deal of sensitivity. At the end of the consultation, they were honest with us that we'd need to hire a mechanical engineer to finish the design, and referred us to someone they trusted to be able to accomplish this for us. It's not often that you find a team with this kind of professionalism, patience, knowledge, and just plain courteousness. I have a hydronic heating system (non-custom) in my house as well, and as far as I'm concerned, I've found the folks I'll be using to maintain and evolve that system going forward. read more

Chad has saved the day on many occasions for us. The first time he came out we were getting a second opinion, as a different company had told us our system had to be replaced. (Cha-Ching!) Chad found it was a simple wiring issue and fixed the problem in a matter of minutes. A very inexpensive fix.
