Gorgeous interior and romantic lighting in a restored bank from the 1900's. Warmly greeted upon arrival. Started off with an espresso and Masala chai tea. Both were very good. Also, ordered the Gobi Manchrian as an appetizer, which had an awesome crisp and it was flavorful. We only ate half to save room for the Butter Chicken and Dal Makhani. The Butter Chicken had was a healthy serving. However, the sauce and chicken were not flavorful. After adding salt, it still missed key elements. It didn't seem to have enough cumin, garlic, or garam masala. It was edible, but just missed the mark on flavor. The Dal Makhani looked more like a lentil chili. It was over powered by tomatoes and not any signs of enough garlic, ginger, cumin, or garam masala. We ordered plain naan and stuffed naan. These were satisfactory. read more

Just a great dining experience top to bottom. First, the interior is great. As I'm sure you've heard by now, it's a converted bank, and they did a great job with the conversion. It's crazy spacious, and shockingly clean. The building is broken up into a dine in area and a take out area, and the take out area was just as clean and well presented as the dine in option. Service was fantastic. Andrew was so nice and friendly, and went out of his way to accommodate us. The food was GREAT. Firstly, the servings are HUGE. The Misses and I ate until we were full, then still had an entire entrees worth of left overs to take. The little one got the nuggets and fries, and oh my god, it was a ton of food. I think it was EIGHT, absolutely spot on McDonalds nugget clones, and fries, and it was like $6. Insane. They tailor the spice level, and get all the way up to "Indian Spicy," but I'm a bit of a spice lord, and the "American Spicy" was more than enough. I have been eyeing up Spicy Affair for a year or more but I continue to frequent the same three Indian spots over and over. We decided it was time to give Spicy Affair a try so my husband made reservations. We arrived at 7 pm on a Saturday and from the outside I was impressed with the space. Ample parking in the back, an outdoor seating area that was closed at the time probably due to the recent weather, a separate take out spot and of course the large dining area which used to be a bank. The gentleman who sat us happened to also be the sole waiter in the restaurant for the evening and he was working hard. He sat us at a table that had a puddle of water on one side but that type of thing doesn't bother me. He saw it and apologized, but he was hustling so I just wiped it with my napkin. We decided to skip an appetizer because we had dessert plans for afterwards so we started with a bottle of the white peach wine. They had a list of mocktails, but most were crossed off and not available. Upon arrival the bottle was room temp, which I pretty much expected. Our server brought over an ice bucket to chill the wine when he had the chance but he was hustling around the dining room so we just drank it warm. We ordered the chicken malai, butter chicken, butter naan, and the Kashmir sweet Naan. Our entree arrived surprisingly fast with a large side of basmati rice. It was my first time trying chicken malai and the flavor is very mild. I almost feel I should have had it spicy to add something. My husband got the butter chicken, one of our faves. This tasted more like tikka masala, though. Usually butter chicken has a lot of "sauce" to dip your naan, but this did not. The flavor was still pretty good though overall. As we dined there were a few dirty tables around the restaurant. Someone came out of the kitchen who appeared to be an owner or manager and bussed a large table herself. A food runner brought food out to the tables as well. The space has up lighting, making it look like a night club. They have r and b and dance music playing loudly in the restaurant as well to go with the club vibe. The vibe is a little off though. This was a wonderful dining experience. Not only because of the company, but the service, ambiance and food were excellent. It is a definite recommendation for a unique dining experience. The wines were stored in the old vault of the bank. What a unique idea! Chairs were leather and gave the impression that you were seated in a board meeting. The old marble was kept and restored as were the chandeliers. The while renovation was tastfully done. I recommend that you go early as we did. We made a reservation for 5 PM. It started to fill up by 5:30. There was also a large take-out business that got busy later in the evening. By the time we left, the whole dining room was filled. I apologize that I don't remember the actual names of the food, but I ordered the chicken with mango sauce. It was out of this world! We also ordered several appetizers so that we could try samples of all the food. That being said, we ended up taking home enough food for another full meal! I highly recommend this restaurant. I can only speak to the takeout aspect of the restaurant as I've never actually eaten inside. The takeout area is filthy and doesn't look like it's been cleaned ever. The owner was very nice and accommodating. We waited for 15-20m. She was able to put tables together and seat us. Ambiance is romantic with eye catching decor. It was a bank before. Great place for date night. Food was 5/10. It is very Americanized Indian food. Indian spice flavors are lacking. We ordered baingan bharta, chicken biryani, and chicken korma. Maybe their specialty is vegetarian; baingan was the only thing that was close to having flavors. Biryani was cooked with different rice. Didn't taste like basmati and under cooked. I don't know how to describe it but it was no where near close to Indian biryani. Chicken korma gravy did not taste like korma; it was bland and chicken pieces were left over malai chicken. It didn't compliment each other well. Service was also 5/10. Maybe we were close to closing time? We were sat by 830p ( we arrived at 8p) and they close at 9p. Our waitress never came to check on us after our food was served, had to ask someone to get her for things missing from our order, had to ask her multiple times to refill our water, and we wanted to order dessert but she brought our check without asking if we wanted dessert. Maybe they are more favorable to American clientele? Idk we were the only Indians there and felt like our service was subpar compared to others dinning there. Went to Spicy Affair this evening for dinner. The interior ambience of the old bank against the modern decor and lighting made for a really classy feel. Our server and overall service was great. We ordered spicy cauliflower and vegetable samosas for appetizers and chicken tikka masala and palak paneer with garlic naan for dinner. The appetizers came fairly quickly. The samosas were big, filled with delicious veggies and perfectly spicy. The cauliflower was also spicy and tasty but not crispy like I expected. The main courses were on point! The chicken and my paneer were excellent. We both went medium spicy which was perfect for us. The amount of food was great, we had plenty to take home and enjoy the next day. The restaurant does not serve alcohol so I recommend bringing your favorite beverage which they welcome their customers to do. The restaurant is very reasonably priced and a great change from ordinary fare. They have take out too but the restaurant is the way to go if you have the time. This restaurant is located in the middle of Swedesboro in what used to be a bank. We came here for lunch on a Friday. While the main dining room doesn't open until 4pm for dinner, we were able to sit outside on the deck. Nice tables with plenty of table umbrellas available. A few cons: no actual menus even after we asked for them, no lunch menu only dinner priced items however one entree is more than enough for two people. Entrees are pricey for lunch. Our lunch with tip was $30 and we didn't even order drinks. We ordered the garlic naan which was delicious. We shared the chicken kebab which was more than enough for two people. We were served a huge bowl of rice with our entree. We even had rice and chicken to take home. Our waiter was very nice and we had an enjoyable afternoon. read more

An affair I'd happily take part in again! Spicy Affair is tucked in the cute town of Sweedsboro. What a lovely, quaint town to visit. We had never been before and can't wait to explore, further. We chose to order takeout. To be honest, I'm not the most adventurous when it comes to Indian food so I stuck with my usual chicken tikka masala. It was absolutely delicious- chicken tender, sauce creamy and spiced well. The dish even traveled well for 20 some minute drive. All entrees come served with a pretty large amount of basmati rice. My boyfriend got the butter chicken at the medium spice level. Since it was our first time trying the food, he was unsure what medium spice would taste like, and figured it would be the safest option. It ended up not being as hot as expected- so next time we will definitely try the "hot." Yummy, otherwise. Of course we had to try the naan. They have a nice variety of naan options, but we went for the classic butter naan and garlic naan. If we knew they fluffy dough was to be the size of a personal pizza, we would have only gotten one. Oh my gosh- some of the best naan I've ever had. Perfect for dipping or eating on its own. For dessert we got the gulab jamun. It was not for me, and unfortunately was tossed after one bite. Amazing, A+++, food to write home about, delicious!!! This was some of the most tasty Indian food I've had in a long time. Our group ordered takeout and had Samosas, Naan, Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Curry, Palak Paneer, and Lamb Rogan Josh. There was more than enough food for that meal and leftovers. Everything tasted fresh, had complex flavors and was perfect texture. The Rogan Josh is my go-to dish when I eat Indian and this was one of my favorite Rogan Josh dishes I've ever had. The sauce had a chunky texture of ginger, garlic and spices and the lamb was tender. I enjoyed that so much that I didn't even eat a samosa which my group was raving about how amazing they were. It would be dangerous if I lived near here because I would want to give them all of my money and eat their food every week. I'm going to give them a nice rating based on how good the food was because it was really delicious. Our server was great. We did ask for two of our three meals to be medium and "Indian" spicy - per the server's recommendation. I cannot do spicy at all and I could eat both of those. So if you want some real spice, you may need to really discuss with the server. I think many people say they can do spicy and really can't, but this was all fairly mild. First off the bank layout is nice, the inside has been setup fairly well. Like others, it was a bit to dark towards the later part of the day. We couldn't see properly while eating. The establishment was also very cold, didn't seem like the heat was on. We went with about 14 people so it could've affected the food and service as well. The service was good for the circumstances they had. We had a 4pm reservation and we got there around 4:15, we were seated promptly but the table wasn't clean and there was spilled food everywhere. But the waiter was apologetic and cleaned it right away. The downside is that they had two food runners, and 1 server for the entire restaurant. This man tried his best and did a great job, as well as the runners. They had positive attitudes and they worked very hard to make sure they served everyone in the restaurant. I would give 5 stars to those three individuals, otherwise I wouldn't have even given this restaurant 2 stars. The food was mediocre. I think the kitchen was slammed and being understaffed, most of the dishes came out cold. The chicken was dry in every dish. We had at-least 5 to 6 chicken dishes. This could also be because they used chicken breast in every dish, if it's not cooked properly, breast tend to dry out fairly quickly. But being on the pricier side, you would expect much better food and attention to consistency. Overall the food isn't worth the trip and even with good service, you want a satisfying meal. Stopped and walked in for lunch, there were two police officers, and one lady in the restaurant for lunch. So I figured this wouldn't take long. Andrew the waiter came over and gave me the lunch special and regular menu. I ordered the lunch and a Togo order. I was told you can only have the lunch special price if you eat in. It took approximately 45 minutes for me to get my food. I was not happy, and when I got my bill. I was totally UNHAPPY. My lunch and togo order was almost $40 for chicken and cabbage. Spicy Affair is a spicy affair. Their food is so good I don't mind any of the hassle with the ordering or long wait times. I lived in NYC for 10 years, and I had phenomenal Indian cuisine up there... Spicy Affair is as good Sometimes the lady who takes the orders on the phone seems to be in an unfriendly mood. Wait times can be long but that's fine since the food is incredible I usually call and pick up, but the dine-in experience is great too. I only get takeout so I can't comment on service inside but they are really good at the pick up window. The food is above average and you get plenty of it. The garlic naan is the best I've had and the butter chicken is always perfect. My one critique is that when you order through the app it gives you a ridiculous lead time but anytime I have picked up, you can tell it was done a while ago. I usually order at lunch and maybe that's the difference, but the estimated time should be more scientific and not a blanket time. Luckily the things I ordered are fine to sit in the takeout container a little while but it would be great if they had some way of alerting you that it's done sooner. My advice would be to give it no more than 15 minutes then go check on it. I really should try eating in sometime as the inside looks really inviting. read more

Our server was Alexis and she's literally the best! As of late service In restaurants have really been poor however that's not the case here. I don't know the exact items we ordered but we got 3 appetizers. 2naans and 4 main courses. All were awesome. I honestly wasn't a fan of the mushroom app because I didn't like the chickpea breading but I think that's more of a my issue than an issue with the food. You can tell even though I didn't like it that it was cooked well and the quality was definitely there. This place is a little far for us but we will definitely be back. My family of 6 adults went for a special occasion last night (Saturday). The restaurant is so pleasant to visit and the atmosphere was very relaxing. Our waiter, Andrew, did an excellent job of making suggestions on what apps and entrees to choose. Every meal was excellent and abundant! We decided next time we would take his suggestion and eat family style by sharing entrees as we had soo much food left over (good for today's lunch). I wanted to try a vegetarian dish and Andrew's suggestion of Navrattan Korma was excellent! Next time I will have the chilli Gobi and Naan. Prices were great, it is byob but they also sell a selection of Auburn Road wines by the bottle (we were very happy with doing that). I know we will be visiting this restaurant again. Just picked up takeout for the first time from this restaurant. I'm stunned that it receives so many good reviews. Food is absolutely horrible. I ordered the Samosa chaat and it was cold and dry. My husband ordered wings, completely overcooked and cold also. The paneer naan had no taste. Everything dry.
