This place takes me back home to the SGV in SoCal. I was thrilled to see familiar favorite items on the menu and a cold dish station up front. I like how their QR code menu makes it super easy to order at your tables without waiting for a server as it can get quite busy. We had went there when there were multiple large parties dining in so it was really crowded. The ventilation wasn't the best so it was pretty warm. It also didn't help that I had ordered a soup dish on a hot day. For food, I got the pork and egg dalu noodles soup and I would give it 10/10. It was incredibly delicious and filling. As for their cold dishes, the portions they give are massive! You can either order straight from the QR code or go up to the front and directly order there. The shredded dry tofu was my favorite but I also really liked the seaweed+bean sprouts as well. And as an extra bonus, they also provide us with a complimentary bowl of porridge. read more

We stopped by for lunch and were happy to see their menu featuring classic Chinese breakfast items like soy milk, You tiao, and Dou Fu Nao, along with variety of other dishes. The food here is genuine Taiwanese and you can get some traditional breakfast treats as well as some really tasty baos and dumplings. Sweet which surprisingly has a slightly gritty texture for the sugar - usually this is a ginger infused sugar syrup. The minute we heard about a chinese breakfast place in Austin, we woke up early to get there right when it opened. We had the place all to ourselves! We ordered hot sweet soy milk (it was a very cold weekend which is unusual, and it was the perfect thing to warm us up). Of course we ordered pork and thousand year old egg congee, fried dough in sesame pancake, and then also egg pancake. I've had a lot of congee in my day (grew up eating it in Flushing on the weekends) and I have to say, it's the best pork and thousand year old egg congee I've ever had. Super authentic. We were in a hurry so we had to eat and run, next time I will definitely get a stuffed steamed bao because there were so many of them in bins sitting on the counter. I'm always a fan for Chinese breakfast. It satisfied my cravings, but not the best in town. However, it is the most unique. Certain dishes you can't find anywhere else in Austin yet. We enjoyed the classic egg wrapped green onion pancakes, shredded turnip pancakes, home style tofu, and this flat rice noodle dish called green pepper and special noodle soy sauce. The pork floss egg pancakes, cabbage and pork pot stickers, steamed pork soup dumplings are very typical. Warning: the black pepper beef noodle dish was extremely salty and ma-lah spicy. The service was decent. Everyone was very nice and liked to speak in Mandarin. It's a very casual but family oriented space. Lots of parking out front. read more

The hype has died down and it's my second time here. You still order by QR code. The massive lines and wait times have diminished, it seems. Came in for a later lunch. Opted for Salty Soy Milk (still in stock this time!) and Savory Tofu Hua. The Salty Soy Milk was... an interesting rendition to say the least. First, the soy milk was not curdled, and there was an absence of sourness, meaning no vinegar had been added. Strange. This led to a lack of the satisfyingly creamy mouth feel typically associated with salty soy milk. Instead, I was left with hot soy milk that has some chili oil poured over into it, and with scallions, dried shrimp, and youtiao pieces. All fine. Except the flavors were not tied together, no doubt due to the missing acetic acid. The dou hua was fine and tasted as expected, consisting mainly of woodear mushrooms and tofu hua. However, towards the end of June, in the sweltering heat, eating hot food inside the restaurant isn't necessarily a great idea if you're looking to cool off. The ambient temperature within is quite warm, even when lightly clothed in running shorts and a t-shirt. This is the first time I've perspired eating hot food in a warm restaurant. Perhaps it was because the table was next to the window? I'm not sure, but clearly the AC was either not functioning or it was turned off. read more

When on a late weekend morning, there were still plenty of tables around. It was inside your typical Chinese restaurant. Tons of tables and seats and barely enough room to walk between them. They sit you down, and there is a QR code on the table. You just scan it with your phone and order. I got the cold soy milk, beef pancake roll, sesame beef sandwich, and beef noodles. The beef noodle was good, but I wish it had a little bit more kick to it. The cold soy milk was good, but it just needed a bit more sugar for my liking. The pancake roll and the sesame sandwich were decent. Overall, the experience is what I expect for any Chinese restaurant: poor service but great food. The food took a while to come out, but everything looked and tasted fresh. So if you are coming here looking for good service, I would look elsewhere, but if you are looking for actually Chinese food, this will be one of your spots. I yelped breakfast places near me and settled on Breakfast House based on its rating. I escaped our home while my husband snoozed. Pro tip: Do not fully use your gps on this one. My gps told me to make U-turn and then turn into the parking lot. However, I had already passed the restaurant. I ordered sweet potato porridge and a pork wrap. My porridge came in a mixing bowl size serving...enough for 4-5 people. It is something about the name porridge which makes you think you're in a fairytale or Aesop's fable. The wrap was freshly made and was quite flavorful. The wrap was enough for 2+ people. Needless to say, I had a lot of leftovers. Hands down one of the best beef noodle soups I've had at a restaurant. I opted for a light spicy beef noodle soup and I couldn't have imagined it tasting any better. The portion was generous, as soon as the soup sits on the table you're instantly lured with it's aromatics. THE BLACK AND WHITE: I came here with a friend because we saw this on a influencer videogram. Man these influencers have a reach. We came here on a Sunday at 12 and it was packed. It's first come first serve seating. You order by QR code and then pay at the end at front. No American express is accepted FYI. We got the yu tiao (aka Chinese donut), shrimp congee, spicy tofu fa, glutinous rice balls, scallion pancake, and chongqing beef soup. The Chinese donut took forever to come out, but damn was it fresh and delicious. Paired very well with the soy milk. The other foods were great, fried and filling. My favorite bite of the day was the glutinous rice balls with sesame paste. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall the damage done for the feast was around $80. I stumbled upon this place today and went in to check it out. They have some stuff on the menu I haven't seen before! I ordered the green onion cake and the beef shao mai.. the beef shao mai were cute dumplings that were just so tasty!! Not spicy... and the green onion cake doesn't look like the photo but is tasty.. make sure ya look at the two bottles on your table cause I poured some vinegar on my cake...but it tasted good!! I love shoyu (soy sauce) so I added that as well. The staff was good and the place was like a wee street food stall... only a wee bit better. It's kinda packed with chairs so there is ample seating for small people. I'm going back to check out the rest of the menu! I noticed they would forget drink orders here and there and we were also asked to relocate to the table next to us in the middle of the meal. That being said, the workers were very nice and did their best despite the language barrier with other patrons. We ordered the you tiao (fried Chinese donut) to go with some hot, sweetened soy milk. The you tiao came out first and was super hot and crispy. I love having it with soy milk and this pairing was just as good here. I also like that the soy milk wasn't too sweet. We also got the spicy beef noodle soup which was heavy with numbing spice. The beef was tender and flavorful, but the broth had so much mala I needed to take a break before eating the other foods. The noodles were a bit overcooked but not bad. The beijing sauce and dry tofu was very lackluster to me. The chicken was too salty and there wasn't much of a flavor profile to it. The tofu skin didn't provide much else to the dish other than being a wrap. This establishment does fried foods very well because the beef sesame cake was also very good. It was buttery, flaky, as well as sweet and savory. I really enjoyed this snack. Lastly, we also got the combination fried noodles, which was also not anything amazing. We had gluten, tofu skins, "husband wife lung slices" (a variety of mixed meats), porridge, sesame cake, fried Chinese donut, and scallion oil noodles. It was all very good! We also had a cup of soy milk which apparently is a traditional Chinese breakfast drink. The staff were very attentive and there were plenty of tables. No trouble being seated. It's cafeteria style and the menus and ordering are done via QR code per table. The food here really brought back memories of my childhood in Taiwan. It's been over 30 years since I dipped fried Chinese donuts into sweet soy milk. The food was good but a tad too fried and oily for my taste these days. It was also a lot more expensive than traditional Taiwanese food as well. If you're looking for traditional Taiwanese breakfast, definitely try this place out. I'd probably skip the beef noodle soup because I'm not a fan of the noodle texture, but the soup broth is especially good with some chili oil. I also would skip the green onion pancakes. They're a bit too fried with not enough flakiness. Portion sizes are great, and food comes out very fast. We also ordered pig ear, and it came on such a huge plate. It had a decent amount of customers for Sunday lunch but still had empty tables available. Some of the food came out pretty quickly. I definitely liked my pepper beef dry noodle, the flavor was very satisfying. We came as a large group and the check situation was very frustrating. There were about 4 receipts for our table of about 15, and the food items had no rhyme or reason as to how they were split up. I'm not from northern China but it definitely seemed very authentic from what I could tell. Everything was tasty but for being a hole-in-the-wall/strip mall location all the way up in the Anderson Mill area, prices were a bit high. When the mixed vegetable plate came out, I actually thought it was one of the freebie dishes of pickled vegetables that you sometimes get at restaurants. Turns out it was just a small plate of cold veggies for $10. Aside from that though, I still enjoyed the meal. It's the kind of place I would bring my parents to. Also, I'm not sure how I feel about their "secret" 5% discount for people who pay in cash. The food doesn't look like anything special, so we can got two items: Preserved congee and green onion pancake. The congee had a different flavor profile than what I'm used to. I enjoyed the century eggs, which is a typical topping for congee but the congee was too peppery. The pork is also salty. Because the century egg is already salty, I felt that all the toppings didn't mix well. Green onion pancake was pretty good! You may get free soy milk if you leave a review. I'm also not a fan of soy milk but my friends who normally like soy milk didn't like it.
