Rolled into this location by accident. I didn't realize they had another location, so I was surprised to see the item I had planned to order (Ciabatta Bing) wasn't on the menu. Much more limited to just Spiedie sandwiches, pita or sub style (SM and LG) plus a few fried options. All good. I had the Spiedissimo (peppers, onions and provolone) with their incredible chicken. It was messy (oily), but so damn good. Piping hot and eaten at a small table. Super friendly people working hard. Big parking lot on a very busy road. Most likely, a U-turn in your future for this spot if you are coming off the highway. Clean interior and bathroom too. I need to hit up Front Street the next time for that Bing! read more

This place used to be a favorite but I haven't been since I got food poisoning from bad lettuce here in 2021 so decided to give it another shot. Sadly they were out of pork speidies so I had to get chicken. The good? The chicken was pretty tasty & the fries were yummy. Salad as a whole was good & the processed cheese goo was just what I wanted for the fries. The bad/off putting? I asked the cashier (who was very nice) if I could have some malt vinegar to go with the fries. She asked the older woman with short dark hair & glasses (who had already grumbled because I asked for my "sandwich" without bread so she had to put it in a container).. (I should note here that the older woman was already pouring malt vinegar into a larger dipping cup for another customer when I asked the cashier for some)... the older woman snapped at her "who asked for it?" I was at the counter waiting since it was to go so I said "I did please".. she looked at me, grunted, poured the thimble's worth of liquid gold malt vinegar and said "ugh this smells like feet!". I was excited for my food but her attitude was gross & I didn't need her to put that thought in my head As additional insult to injury, pretty sure I was overcharged for this.. Even looking at the different prices on the menus from the website, pretty sure a large Greek & a regular cheese fries (no drink) should not have been $18.77. The takeaway from this? It was ok, but not stellar. It was 2:50pm & they close at 3:30. I'm sorry if the older woman was just having a bad day, but that wasn't my fault. Was looking forward to trying this place (and spiedies) after reading an article about spiedies and this restaurant in a recent NY Times article. Decided to stop 6 hours into an 8 hour drive to Albany. Arrived 3:58 p.m. on a Tuesday; the Yelp page says it's open until 10 p.m.and their own website says its open until 9 p.m. Sign on door says it closes at 3:30 p.m. on weekdays. Called the phone # on the website; their other location was open. They seemed to think my issue was somewhat funny. No reason for me to seek out that location at that point. Internet age, folks. This was my first time here and the Greek spiedie was absolutely delicious. Tender flavorful chicken. They did not skimp on the feta and it was high quality feta. Tzatziki sauce was great. I was licking my fingers, the plate, everything. Fries were fresh very hot and crisp. I would get this again. I'm like to go to local places rather than chains and this place was great. Hi, I came in today and thought the price of my lunch for 4 was quite high, I checked yelp to see if anyone else also had this issue. Others had this issue as well, the food was great(if a tad expensive) but the real reason for my review was seeing the restaurant's reaction to other reviews by Katelin S. To me it seemed as though she took personal offense to each negative review and would berate the customers for trying to bring issues to your attention. I have worked for Spiedie and rib pit vestal for a total of 3-3 1/2 years and never felt more unappreciated in my life. The owner ( Liz) is unethical and blames all of her failures on her employees. We all are happy cheery with customers but behind the scenes get treated like absolute shit. We open and close for this woman and she is never pleased. Even some of our customers have endured her attitude problem and spiked temper. You can't call out comfortably even with weeks in advance without being scolded for taking off. She needs every single detail as to why you can't " stick it out " and come in to suffer for her. I am currently pregnant and she would rather argue and cause stress to me than to have a civilized conversation about anything. She is the most miserable person I've ever worked for. And because of me quitting it resulted in her following around the rest of the staff yelling and arguing with them as she turns red in the face. Her business is failing miserably as everyone is noticing by the hour cut. She closed for vacation to go to Disney and left us without pay as she got vacation pay the next pay check. She only cares about herself and how hard she can run you into the ground. She cuts hours with malicious intent then acts like she doesn't know what she's talking about. She talks about all her employees whether we work hard or not. Worst of all she does all of this in front of customers. Take this as a warning before attempting to address anything with her. If you have any complaints or concerns about your food,stay far from her as she will blame it all on "the way that YOU ordered the food". It will never be her fault. She speaks poorly about anyone that complains about her food especially regulars that come in often. Great food but that doesn't make up for the unfriendly / unprofessional staff. My pork Spiedie was wonderful unfortunately I ordered a combo with French Fries and fountain drink. The coke free style machine wasn't working and kept going into a maintenance mode. I informed the guy at counter, he tried it and same thing happened. He then told a girl who said give it 5 minutes. Meanwhile my food is up and I have no drink. Another older couple said "let us get something from refrigerator / cooler" the reply was no it will work shortly. The girl told guy cooking about the problem and he said "I don't care, that's not important" Finally after over 10+ minutes one of the girls called someone else and finally said it's ok to get something from the cooler. Luckly the relaxed and hungry me was in the establishment today or I would have requested / demanded a refund. To use an old saying. The big issue I see here is that "a bunch of Indians are running this business with no chief" to make things happen and ensure it's ran well. It's sad because they have good food but the taste you leave with isn't good because of the service. I ordered the spiedie salad, it was really delicious!! I had the balsamic vinaigrette with it. Which gave it great flavor. I liked that they had little wedges of pita bread to go along with!! The staff is really friendly!! They had beautiful smiles! I feel when packaging they needled to ask me, if my meal was for here or to go, and Just put all the amenities with it. Since there are not all that many reviews of spiedie places, I will set the stage as an out-of-towner looking to try this local specialty. Sharkey's seemed to be the default choice but reviewers say the quality and service is in decline. Lupo's may be the only place that still serves lamb but it's basically take-out. With limited time after a visit to Binghamton U with my kid, I decided to take a chance on Sharkey's... then I went up to the visitor's parking lot at the U and found I had a flat tire. While Monro on Vestal was attempting to fix my tire (great guys) I noticed the Spiedie & Rib Pit across the street. I was there in a flash. The ratty exterior and benches along the wall drew me in, but I was disappointed to find the inside 50's malt-shop chic with the checkered tiles and all. However, I got the basic pork spiedie and it was fantastic. Asked the server what to put on it and she said "nothing" and she was right. The spices and the juice permeated the bun and it was a beautiful experience. The Speidissimo, not so much. Had it with chicken which was again tender (not as good as the pork) but the other ingredients were a distraction and the pita was a disaster to eat while I was chugging up 7 with my donut tire. 4 instead of 5 stars only because this location does not serve the cookie promised for Yelp check-ins, which is apparently only available at the mother ship. read more

Been living outside of Binghamton NY, for work, for the past few months, and I've always heard of their local delicacy called the Spiedie.What it is is basically marinated in chunks of pork or white meat chicken, rolled over a flat top and served on at Italian Road. I finally got a chance to try one today. The girl at the counter was very friendly and explained I could have it anywhere like, so I got the grilled chicken 6 inch with extra sub oil and lettuce.The place where is your typical takeout type of spot with a few tables, and they brought the sandwich out right away. First impression, I love the marinade on the chicken, tasted like a real nice Italian dressing. It permeated the meat wonderfully. The Italian bread was nice and soft, and I think the lettuce was a nice batch as well as the extra dressing. I can understand how this is such a local favorite. I'll be back! read more

But on a business trip to the Binghamton area with the family in April 2012, we found ourselves in Vestal on Vestal Parkway near the hotel, driving around looking for somewhere to eat. I saw this place off the side of the road and stopped in. I got a buffalo chicken spiedie, a greek spiedie, and cheese fries. The wife got a spiediessimo and a salad and we got a cheeseburger for the kid. The buffalo chicken spiedie comes on a sesamee roll. and the fries (cheese on the side, I dipped) and it was enough for lunch, I saved the greek one for dinner. We all thought the food was really good. We were worried it would be greasy but it totally wasn't, I would definitely go back. I'm out here in the Binghamton area for a week for work, so I'm scrambling for the PM cultural offerings.. This region is basically the economic train wreck that people think about when myopic New York City folks talk about it. IBM was once here, Lockheed-Martin as well, and even GE had a large presence here...most of this is no longer. Like so many of these towns the legacy is basically a visible decay and a lot of poverty. If you really want to see what globalization has done, ride route 17 and go through the whole Southern Tier (Elmira, Hornell, Olean Jamestown)... The upside is beautiful natural scenery plus some legacy food stuff from the immigrants who came to work here.. The spiedie is one of these unique foods to Broome County and the Binghamton area (and CNY to a lesser degree). The Rib Pit is owned by the folks who own Lupos marinade (can get it at Wegman's)..essentially kebob meat on an Italian roll. Essentially an vinegar based marinade with some Italian spices... This place isn't glamourous nor is the food...but it's a local creation and it's pretty tasty. I cant say I'd eat this every night while out here (I'm staying in a Generica chain), but the 6 inch spiedie is priced right and good quality. read more

Picked up a Greek spiedie and it was exactly what Yelp says - A-OK. It wasn't the most incredible eat, but the location was ok and the food was ok. Sorry Binghamton, but if this is the best spiedie in town, I'm not missing much (which is why we also tried another place). The staff was friendly and patient as I herded a couple of kids who would rather play with their cousins into the shop and got them to pick an order. The location seemed generally tidy, but it could probably have stood a deeper clean. The layout was utilitarian. The meat - you could taste the spiced in the marinade, which went well with the greek toppings. I don't know if that is a shop thing or every spiedie place offers it that way, but it worked out well. My girlfriend is from the Binghamton area and she always raves to me about how delicious spiedie's are. We were driving in Vestal and I immediately noticed the sign for Spiedie and Rib Pit. I made here pull over because I had to give it a try. I really liked the different combinations of spiedie's there are. My girlfriend however, recommended that I try the original first. My first impression of the original spiedie was a little disappointing. The chicken was dry. I was hoping that it would be really moist due to the famous spiedie marinade. To be positive, I enjoyed the bread it came on. It was sesame and it was really soft and chewy. This is the way I like it. Overall, like I said, I was a bit disappointed in my first ever spiedie. I am definitely willing to give it another shot though. Maybe if I go for another combination I will enjoy it a lot more. read more

It was 3:00 PM and my sister's graduation dinner reservation at Fuji San Restaurant wasn't until 6:00PM so my dad and I figured we had plenty of time for food at Spiedie's before dinner. My dad recommended us splitting one sub so we didn't "spoil our appetite" like there could be a thing. We can always eat. After challenging his manhood, we started ordering spiedies by the handful. Initially we ordered two subs but as we were waiting for the subs, my dad suggested ordering cheese fries. I initially turned down my dad's suggestion for cheese fries, but then I felt as if my manhood was in question so I said, "All right, let's have some cheese fries." After all, I couldn't fit into my dress pants anyway so what difference was an order of cheese fries going to make. The Greek style spiedie served in pita was five stars. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and a great blend of feta cheese and vegetables. The grilled pita was delicious. The buffalo style chicken spiedie was good. It was a solid three stars but I didn't think the roll was anything special and the blue cheese sauce slightly overpowered the taste of the chicken. The cheese fries were a solid four stars. The fries were hot, crisp, and served with melted cheese. After we split two subs and fries, we felt the Greek pita was by far the best so we went to the counter to order another; however, as we were about to order the Greek pita, I made a last minute game time decision for us to try the chicken caesar spiedie on a pita just so between the two of us we would have tried every spiedie at this place. The chicken caesar spiedie is also served in a pita and was delicious. This was a solid four stars. I thought the seasoning was equally as good as the seasoning on the Greek style spiedie. The reason I can't give it quite a five star rating is the absence of cheese. It's a chicken caesar spiedie so would have liked parmesan cheese in the pita, otherwise the spiedie was perfect. After we had tried just about every spiedie at Spiedie & Rib Pit to the amusement of the girl behind the counter, I was stuffed and ready to leave but as we were about to leave, my dad mentioned getting Smartfood popcorn to wash down the subs and fries. I said, "All right dad, I give up; you are the better eater; just don't get the Smartfood; I'm going to be sick." I'll never question my dad's manhood when it comes to food again. On this day, he took me to school and showed me a lesson in eating. It's gotten better since the last time I was there, when it seemed everything, including the furniture, was covered in a thin layer of grease. They sell chicken or pork spiedies, but no lamb, the traditional spiedi meat (and I just used the traditional spelling). They sell them with toppings, which I consider "gilding the lily:" the original spiedi is a beautiful sandwich just by itself; it doesn't need mushrooms or cheese or tomato sauce, or anything else. It was our first time in Binghamton (on a college tour for our son at SUNY Binghamton), and I had been told by friends not to miss the spiedies. We were staying at the Holiday Inn Express just down the road. I checked the reviews for this place beforehand, and they seemed adequate. Sure, there were other places to eat spiedies, but this one was so convenient. I have to say, my rating may not adequately reflect the food itself. The spiedies and sides we ordered were good, but from the online reviews (on Yelp and elsewhere) and their website, I had the impression that this was more like a regular rib joint, with a similar ambiance. Nope. This place had all the ambiance of a White Castle or a KFC (or less). Counter service, paper and plastic, and you serve yourself your own fountain drinks (but free refills!) It was not a wonderful place to sit and eat for weary travelers, and if I'd known that, I probably would have looked elsewhere, or at least taken the food back to the hotel to eat. And we had a five year old with us, and they were out of chicken tenders. :/ But...the spiedies were quite good, and the young counter people very accommodating. I ordered a chicken Caesar, my son a pork Endwell, and my husband a Greek. Plus we got an order of Buffalo wings and a large onion rings for the table. The five-year-old, denied chicken tenders, made do with a plain order of chicken spiedies and some french fries. The chicken Caesar was really, really good (and really, really drippy...get extra napkins!). I had a bite of the Endwell, and that was also delicious. However, my husband reported that the Greek was pretty much a chicken souvlaki on a pita, and since we're from Astoria, it was nothing new or unusual (but what can you expect?) The Buffalo wings were okay, definitely edible but not the best I've had and not very hot. The onion rings were perfect. Too-hot-to-eat-at-first rings of real onion battered just right. This place got way fewer and less positive reviews than the location on UpperFront street. I had pulled pork dressed with coleslaw at Upper Front and a buffalo spiedie at Vesta. Two very different things, so hard to compare. I find nothing wrong with the Vesta location. More seating inside and a little brighter than UpperFront street. And it was less busy.
