However, I can't give more than two stars unless management seriously improves equipment maintenance. Several machines have had "Out of Service" stickers on them for at least six months, with no visible progress on repairs. In some cases there are only one or two of those machines in the entire gym, so when one is broken for months, it becomes very inconvenient for members who rely on that equipment. On top of that, some of the existing equipment is clearly aging (frayed cables, worn components, etc.). What makes this more frustrating is that the gym offers a premium membership tier that includes access to the hydro/water massage bed, but that has also been out of service for a long time. Even more concerning, the water fountain and bathroom have both been out of service multiple times. That's a basic facility issue. Members need access to drinking water and restrooms during workouts. Meanwhile, the gym sells bottled water at the counter, which feels especially frustrating when the fountain isn't working. On a few occasions they even had to bring in a porta-potty outside the gym, which says a lot about the state of the building facility. Again, I genuinely want to rate this gym higher because the staff and community are great. If management commits to properly repairing and maintaining the equipment and facilities, I would absolutely be happy to update this review and increase the rating.

I go in the mornings and the staff is always cleaning. The men's locker room is clean, the gym floor doesn't have discarded wrappers and bottles strewn around, and they keep the equipment in good repair unlike some gym where weeks roll by with a "under repair" sign taped on some machines. The only downside, and this happens at all gyms, is sometimes people mistake the machines for their living room couch and sit for minutes playing with their phone instead of using the machine. Fortunately this isn't too common, and usually if I skip the machine and come back later it is available.

My biggest issue with Equinox is that they lied to me about the cancellation process to get me to sign up. Before joining, I specifically asked what I would need to do if I wanted to cancel my membership. I was clearly told that I only needed to give one month's notice. I relied on that information when I decided to join. A few months later, when I went in to cancel, I was suddenly told that I had signed a one-year contract. That is not a minor misunderstanding. I asked a very specific question before enrolling, and they withheld information about the 1 year contract. And for $250/month, I don't think the gym itself justifies the price. Weight clips are frequently missing, and the restrooms are often not as clean as you would expect from a gym charging a premium membership fee. But honestly, those things are secondary. The real problem is the way the membership was sold to me. I expect a premium company to be transparent with its customers, especially when they are making a significant financial commitment.
