The front desk was hopping between assisting members and giving us tours. Mind you I arrived 30 minutes early only for one of the front desk girls to get us started THREE minutes before the class was supposed to start. To top it all off they didn't mention what number I was so I went into the class not knowing where to start. In addition, they put me on a rower that didn't have an IPad connected to it so the instructor had to run and grab one. The moment she put it on and connected it my heart rate monitor wasn't connected. It was such a shit show and it wasn't the instructor's fault at all. The instructor actually tried really hard to calm me down and make sure I was setup. She was very nice so no complaints with her. I woke up early for this and literally wasted almost 45 minutes of my day. I literally walked out and gave the heart rate monitor back to the front desk. They could see I was distraught. It was just a complete disappointment and waste of time. There needs to be better training or more staff to help with the peak days and hours. My BIG feedback is to have one front desk person focus on the intro members and the other focus on current members. This whole ordeal made me not want to join Orangetheory at all. What's even worse is that I live like three blocks away and was hoping to find something within walking distance. The search continues.

I've done CrossFit for 10+ years, and these coaches still find ways to correct and challenge me, which I greatly appreciate. I love their facility; this is the only gym that has an indoor sauna, ice bath room, offers towel service, supplies lifting belts, and has plenty of space for good-sized classes and even for those extra people working on mobility or anything else at the same time. What's unique about Crossfit San Carlos' facility is their green turf that allows us to do indoor sled pulls & pushes, handstand walking work, shuttle runs, etc. I truly appreciate that warm-ups are varied and not the same every day. The workouts are challenging and have given me results through sustainable progress. Since joining in Oct. 2024, I'm down 2 sizes from XL to Medium! CrossFit Burlingame has a very tight-knit community but I like to do my own thing and they are very respectful of that also. I don't feel pressured to join the events and feel equally valued as a non-social member so it's a very comfortable atmosphere. Both the coaching staff and the members reflect the diversity of the area and I feel like I fit in. In terms of the pandemic, I appreciate that they have set up an outdoor exercise area in the parking lot with safety measures like temperature checks and mandatory hand-washing and equipment-wiping. They changed the online class signup system to limit class sizes and also allow for mobile self-check-in to further protect each person and minimize risk. I feel very lucky that I have an outdoor exercise option during the pandemic!

I wanted to give CrossFit Burlingame a fair shot, but after a few months, the logistics and the…read moreenvironment just aren't working for me. I honestly dread coming here. For $300 per month, save your money and go somewhere else. You've been warned. The Good: The onboarding process was seamless, and they are highly responsive via text when you are first signing up to learn more. The workouts themselves are solid if you like Mayhem programming.(lots of cardio) the programming doesn't lend itself well to being able to scale handstand pushups or overhead squat where I have seen other boxes have better scaling options for these. The Not-So-Good: The Commute & Parking: Getting here is stressful. The streets leading to the gym are incredibly narrow, and people tend to speed through them (I've actually had a couple of close calls/accidents). Parking is strictly street/residential and very crowded; I've had to park a 15-minute walk away before. I came 39 mins early once and there was still no parking to be found and just gave up and went home. For $300 per month this is insane. People filming: Fitness influencers do not blur your face when filming themselves. Some fitness influencers consistently film themselves and don't ask if they can blur your face if you're in their frame. I think that's just common courtesy. Or else you yourself need to accommodate and move yourself out of their frame. Big box gyms do a better job enforcing this. Limit on class signups: they max each class at 28-30 signups and there's really no limit but the gym can comfortably handle 16-19 people. There's not even enough space in the gym for 28. One time there were so many people some people had to leave and couldn't even fit. Some people come in 15 mins late and crowd the back and there's just chaos and safety issues when there are 28 people in the gym or more. Some people also don't signup. Atmosphere: It feels a bit unwelcoming and feels very chaotic and disorganized. Coaches just run the class without much personal interaction. In my months here, no coach has ever introduced themselves to me. Cleanliness: The facility needs maintenance. The bathroom is frequently out of order, and the floors leave a heavy black residue on your hands during floor movements. Cancellation: Be aware that the cancellation form is pretty buried on their site, and getting a response via email might never happen. It's almost impossible to cancel or get a response about cancellation. It's a decent place if you just want to put your head down and workout, but keep the parking, cleanliness, and hands-off coaching style in mind before joining. Not all workouts are posted on app: some of the classes's workouts like workshop or power building are not posted so you're gonna be in for a surprise if you sign up for those.

From the moment I walked in, I felt…read morewelcomed and genuinely cared for and a huge part of that experience was because of Neil L. HOTWORX being open 24 hours is honestly a game changer. My schedule can get busy, and having the flexibility to book sessions whenever it works for me has made it so much easier to stay consistent. The concept of infrared sauna workouts is something you truly have to experience to understand. You're in a private sauna room choosing from multiple guided sessions, everything from yoga and Pilates to high-intensity interval training (HIIT). No matter which workout I choose, I leave drenched in sweat but in the best way possible. What really stands out is how I feel afterward. Instead of feeling completely drained like some traditional workouts, I feel relaxed, lighter, and almost reset. The infrared heat helps reduce soreness, speeds up recovery, and gives you that detox feeling that makes your body feel refreshed from the inside out. It's the perfect combination of intense and therapeutic. Now let me talk about Neil L. phenomenal doesn't even begin to describe him. He took the time to personally show us around, explain how each session works, and break down how to maximize results. He wasn't just giving a tour; he was educating us. He shared tips on how to structure workouts, how to stay consistent, and how to really push ourselves while still listening to our bodies. His encouragement genuinely motivates you to try your best. What I also appreciated was how knowledgeable he is about their products. He doesn't "sell" you he explains how everything supports your goals. From supplements to recovery tools, he connects it all back to performance and consistency, which honestly makes you want to invest in yourself and keep showing up. The atmosphere at HOTWORX Belmont is clean, modern, and empowering. You feel like you're part of something focused on growth and wellness. If you're looking for a workout that makes you sweat, detox, recover faster, and actually feel good afterward this is it. Highly recommend HOTWORX Belmont and especially Neil L. for the outstanding customer care and support!

She's also dedicated, always learning the latest fitness research to fine-tune my workouts. She helped me get stronger, and now we're tackling weight loss. I was a member of this location for over a decade, and since moving to Charlotte, North Carolina, I can honestly say there is nothing quite like it. The nearest one to me now is in Atlanta, and I still miss the San Mateo club regularly. This location has everything you could possibly want in a fitness facility--and then some. The Fitness Floor Downstairs is a beautifully air-conditioned workout space designed for people who are serious about exercising. No distractions, no crowds hovering by the windows--just a clean, focused environment. You'll find: * Full weight training equipment * Recumbent bikes, ellipticals, and treadmills * Dedicated spin, Pilates, TRX, and group fitness studios * A large open stretching area with foam rollers * Cold, filtered water stations throughout * Staff available for spotting if you're training solo It's efficient, professional, and thoughtfully designed. Locker Rooms & Amenities The locker rooms feel more like a boutique hotel than a gym. They are consistently spotless and fully stocked with: * Plush towel service * Spacious showers with teak benches * Steam rooms infused with eucalyptus * Complimentary razors, Q-tips, and personal care items * Premium Kiehl's products It's luxurious, yes--but also incredibly practical. You can comfortably get ready for work, dinner, or travel without feeling rushed. The Rooftop Pool One of the standout features is the heated rooftop pool. It has multiple lap lanes, cabanas, and water aerobics equipment, and it truly feels like a mini country club in the middle of downtown San Mateo. The pool is heated year-round, which means you can swim in any season--something you quickly get spoiled by. They even provide sunscreen from Supergoop!, along with full towel service. It's those little details that make the experience feel elevated. Classes, Spa & Services The class offerings are extensive and easy to manage through the app. Signing in is seamless--just scan your phone and go. Highlights include: * Yoga in a beautiful bamboo studio with HEPA filtration and ceiling fans * Pilates (available as private, duo, or small-group sessions) * A full-service spa on the upper level * A juice bar and retail shop featuring premium fitness apparel Everything feels intentional, polished, and well-maintained. Location & Convenience The club is located right in the heart of downtown San Mateo, making it incredibly walkable. There are restaurants, grocery stores, and cafés nearby, including one of my favorite bakeries and specialty markets. Parking is also surprisingly easy for a downtown location: * Two-hour validation * Surface lot, garage, and rooftop parking options That convenience makes a big difference in daily use. Value & Membership Yes, membership can be expensive. However, many employers offer corporate discounts, which can make the cost more manageable. In my case, the value absolutely justified the price because I used the facility regularly and took advantage of the amenities. Even when I relocated, canceling my membership was straightforward and professional--no pressure, no hassle. Bottom Line Equinox San Mateo set the standard for what a fitness club should be: clean, thoughtfully designed, service-oriented, and genuinely enjoyable to use. If I ever move to another city with an Equinox, I will join again without hesitation. Because at the end of the day-- life is short, and you should live well.
